Normal glide slope for a large airplane is about 3 degrees, which is reduced in the last few feet of descent. I don't know if this applies directly to a chip shot, but I guess the point is that the descent is gradual enough that it doesn't take a huge change just before touchdown to make the contact gentle.

Dean, interesting. Did not know the details of the airplane descent....great info. Thanks for adding to the conversation.

@@USGOLFTVshow I as well like the pitch&roll system. I find it easier to gauge that than trying to chip it close. Pertaining to your book, I have it.

I completely understand this instruction. My problem I have been having early this year as I'm from Minnesota is that I have my hands too far forward and I also feel like hitting the ball at a descending blow rather than a more natural feel. I'll try this tomorrow at home or on the chipping green.

Hey boss! Chuck here from Palm Coast Florida. Thanks for this video. The only thing that you didn’t touch on in the set up was do you set up with an open stance, slightly open or “normal”. Oh I use a chipper around the green.
@USGOLFTVshow Жыл бұрын
Good call out, yes we like a slightly open stance when chipping. Thanks! Palm Coast is a good place to be right now!

Central NY, snowy and cold right now. I prefer a neutral shaft angle for chipping. Reason being is twofold: 1) It allows the bounce to more easily do its job, and 2) Once I start leaning the shaft forward I always tend to over do it, thereby digging the leading edge in way too much. That goes for all my iron shots as well. Unless I'm really trying to impart some serious spin on the ball, I keep it as neutral as possible with my weight forward (60:40)
@Ricky_rickito Жыл бұрын
This is a great tip. What about firm to hard ground though? Would this make the club hit the ball on the leading edge? I'm really struggling with that shot!

Todd, your thoughts about using a chipper and a putting stroke in these situations.
@USGOLFTVshow Жыл бұрын
A chipper can come in handy for those who struggle with chipping. A putting motion with a PW also works well. I cover this in detail in my latest book, The Bad Lie. Learn more here www.badliegolfbook.com/

Hi, from the fringe I play always with the toe with very good results.As I dont expose the leading edge of the club but only the toe I minimize the risk to hit fat or to duff the ball. Greetings from Italy !

From Florida winter, NC Mountains summer. Took up golf in July, a 6 day a week tennis player. Question, your feet seem slightly open stanced, i.e. from tennis front foot back a little relative to back foot. Should I use a neutral foot stance or slightly open?

Noel, welcome to the game and our channel. Hope you are a subscriber. For chipping you want a slightly open stance. We have a ton of great videos on the top…

Todd, its me again...lol Seems we have been communicating for years with regards to chipping. Any way I have a fear of hitting the ball too far, or chunking or skulling the golf ball when chipping. These thoughts either speed up my club or slow it down which either is not proper. How do I find a consistent approach and thought to chipping when standing over the ball??
@USGOLFTVshow Жыл бұрын
Wayne, great to hear from you. The best drill for this I find is to hit chip shots with your trail hand only. I have this drill and a few other real gems in my book The Bad Lie. There is full chapter on just chipping that you would find helpful. Here is the Amazon link if interested www.badliegolfbook.com/

Depends on the distance and amount of roll out. A heal up putting stroke would be beneficial and keep the heal from digging in. Also a further away with less roll out call for a pitch shot with more loft. I agree hitting down is a no no. 🏌️⛳👍
@USGOLFTVshow Жыл бұрын
Tony, solid post here. A slight downward strike is ok, but as you say, down is no good.
