I actually felt horsepower gains just from sawing off a bottom corner of the intake funnel, in theory it grabs more cold air from where it'll get trapped underneath the oem location. It feels like it has been loving it

I LOVE what you are doing with your Crown Vic!

Early models have a "Snorkle" on the front end of the Air Box -- where that rubber sleeve is in your vid. Remove the air box, and then remove the snorkle. Replace snorkle with aluminum clothes-dryer duct. If you can FIND one of those rubber sleeves, use it to replace the snorkle. Not to burst your bubble, but that heat-reflecting tape is next to useless against under-hood temperatures when the engine has been run for a half-hour with the hood closed. The tape ITSELF will become as hot as the ductwork, and the heat-reflecting qualities are lost. But hey, sometimes, the placebo seems to work as good as the real pill !!

Those cold air filters (on crown Victoria's) actually decrease the HP Compared to the stock one. The stock one gets it's fresh cold air threw the grill and ur $300. Intake sucks up all the heated hot air from under the hood...

How's that airfilter get cold air from out side

I don't believe that cold air filter did anything but lose power. The stock airbox is really good on these cars and not worth replacing. Also plastic doesn't heat soak much anyways so that tape don't do much good.

that reflective material is used in space to reflect radiation, not heat. the vacuum of space is around negative 200 degrees, but there is no ozone layer to protect objects from the radiation of the sun in outer space. stop and think about it though... when you wrap a potato in aluminum foil and throw it on the grill... does the aluminum foil reflect the heat and stop the potato from cooking? also, an easy way to fix your cold air intake would be to build a box around the filter that is ducted through the same hole the factory aircleaner box was ducted through (pretty sure there are several aftermarket boxes made specifically to put a K&N filter in a crown vic all over the internet, i know i've seen them several times but who wants to constantly have to clean and oil a filter for an extra 5-10 horsepower?). right now you're just pulling hot air out of the engine compartment and running it back through the engine, in essence doing almost the same damage that turbos would do to your engine without the horsepower increase. if you want to increase horsepower, quit playing with the filters and ducting and get yourself a supercharger.

So ...you could have gotten a flexible foil looking dryer vent maybe even aluminum and fit it to your filter and connected that to headlight funnel with wrapped filter with holes punched in foil

Guarantee that roll of tape won't give you ANY horsepower increase , you wasted your $

If that cold air intake where pulling air from down outside of the air compartment this could possibly help. However in this case it doesn't even have a heat shield around the filter at all. None the less is it directed out of the hot compartment where it can pull cold air. So you are reflecting heat away from the tube then pulling it readily in through the filter with this setup. As mentioned by others at best this will change the sound at worst actually lose performance.

Adding a heat shield around the air filter itself and having air fed via a proper snorkel to the outside would help prevent sucking in hot engine bay air.

Is there anyone is your area that has a dyno that you can test out on? I see what you are doing but the only way to know for sure is to run it on a dyno with a before any after mod. You could borrow the old airbox from the other car for testing sake. I do enjoy your videos. I just got a 2008 Crown Vic P71 with 39,000 on it so it has a lot of life left in it. Thanks

So your air filter not being cordoned off to the hot engine bay air has no effect on horsepower? The whole point of a "cold air intake" is to get cool cold air, as a matter of fact the air going into your car through even the stock airbox will be cooler than your setup because it draws cool air from inside the fender through the silencer tube. This is another vid that I just can't take seriously. Come on man....

The best thing you can do to save that 15 HP is to put the stock air intake hose and air box back on! That cold air stuff makes the car get less MPG's and costs you power. At best you don't gain a thing from a cold air intake. These things have been checked and proven over and over again, and they don't work. It's the ego trip and the cool factor why guys buy them.

That is not a cold air intake, your taking air from the engine bay (which is hot) and using that for combustion. Hot air is less dense - less dense = less oxygen - less oxygen = less power. The factory air box is sufficient for bringing in cold air reason being most (not all) factory air boxes pull air from the grill or the inside of a fender - also most factory air boxes and the tubing attached are plastic and rubber and do not conduct heat as much as an aluminum tube does. This is a joke do not buy into this nonsense. You really want cool air don't put a so called "CAI" on your car it's a complete joke. Leave your factory box be and put in a k&n so there will be less restriction so your engine doesn't have to work as hard to get the air it needs for combustion.
