Jesus, this was such an easy explanation. This is the easiest explanation of stop order, unfortunately I had to look up after I lost the money using stop order. The current price was 121p and I put a stop order 180p but the order got executed immediately, what a fool. Thanks for the explanation.

Great content, thank you for the basic direction for stop, profit, and entry orders. I'm putting this on a sticky note as a constant reminder while I learn.

I think I get it. BUY - Buy Stop says I am willing to buy it at this price or more for it. I expected a higher price and I am not getting it so to cover my loss let me take the highest price I can get on the market. Buy Limit says this is the maximum price or limit I can buy this for. If it is higher than that, it is too expensive, forget it. SELL - Sell Stop says I will sell immediately it hits a certain price or lower else I might keep loosing money. Market is not in my favour. Sell Limit says I can only sell it at minimum this price because I know the market is in my favour so I can command more price.

hi! so are stop limit orders more appropriate to use when a stock is going down, or can it be used when you anticipate a stock to go up? if im expecting it to rise to $1 for example could I set the limit price for $1 and the stop price for 1.1?

I don't completely understand using a limit order for profit target. Wouldn't it trigger immediately after the order filled on a rising stock? Or was it a stop limit order? Great explanation on the basic order types

It is but it has a specific function. A stop-loss order are limit or market orders.

So if I'm bullish on a stock I would use a buy stop order at the price I want to open my position, use a sell stop to set up a minimum sell price, and a sell limit order to set a price I want to sell the stock should it rise above my buy price. Is this correct?

I am a beginner at trading, Today I was doing some intraday trading and I bought(buy order) bunch of stocks at a breakout price hoping that market would rise, In order to protect my capital I placed a limit (sell) order few point below the current price hoping that it would get triggered if the price falls and hits this price, but to my surprise the sell order executed immediately even before the price was hit. And I booked a huge loss due to that. Until now I didn't knew the reason(I only got to know by this video), The reason was I used limit order instead of stop loss order🤦🏻‍♂️, I was wondering isn't both limit order and stop loss orders the same ? , weren't they supposed to execute only when the price reaches certain level? I had all these doubt in my mind when the trading failed today.. I tried to watch few videos today and no one exactly explained me in a very precise way. Until I came across your video..I am glad that you made this detailed and clean video about these minute but very cost effective order difference video. I really enjoyed this video and I would like to thank you for this effort. Even though I booked a loss today, I am happy that due to this mistake I have learnt a crucial information from you which most of them doesn't care unless they experience it on their own.
