Unless your character has a decently fast mid, your options are as follows: try interrupting with a poke, anticipate their poke and block, anticipate their poke and backdash/jump for a whiff punish, anticipate their poke and use your armored reversal, or anticipate their block and grab. There ya go.

The point is that it’s a unnecessary mind game that specific characters have to worry about.whereas jc and geras(just to name a few)don’t have to worry about it

@@xenoryuthat's what pokes are for though. And if most characters don't have that option of a fast mid then I don't see it as that much of an issue. Especially since pokes are punishable now. Much rather this than the poking wars of mk11

I would like backdash being a reversal like in 11. Damn or even throw. Having only special and Kameo is not enough sometimes

@@youtubewatcherforfunHes nasty easily top 2-3 in the game. Hes basically unpunishable and has the fastest dashes/pokes in the game with very solid damage. His mixups are nice and once hype is activated he is undoubtedly the best in the game. Hes got everything to offer other than projectiles which can be fixed with the right kameos

@@youtubewatcherforfunhe’s easy once you get the hang of it but his star combos can be a little tricky if it’s one that requires you to do the hype start while the enemy is in the air cuz you gotta move fast but other than that he’s easy and most of his combo strings are safe on block and do good chip damage paired with cyrax

It’s important to remember to capitalize on the poke if you do get it it. D1 is very plus on hit for most characters. It usually Jails into your next string if you hit it, even if it’s a high string. Rooflemonger has a great video on it, and ways of dealing with pokes. Good luck testing your night out there everybody!

I try to do pressure tactic that are safe on block and do mixups with lows and overheads and grabs or I just wait until they mess up and throw out and un safe combo then punish them and I poke here and there there a lot of options

Trying moving back or back dash to make the grab whiff sometimes you will make the opponent whiff normal attacks nd punish

Yea dropping a video on this next but for a quick tip:only moves that are -6 or lower can be staggered -7 and up you’ll be able to react to with training

I got poked into the corner by Raiden player and he got a flowless victory for it. I blocked him many times but I could not get a turn back because he would just poke again before I could poke him.... Also, I don't see how to reversal or break away from this because the breaker mechanic dose not seem to work against basic moves. Most of the time I end up blocking the entire match and maybe get one hit on the opponent. I try to do the same thing by mashing pokes but I get blocked and some how get destroyed from combos that last for days. I did much better with MK11 and got to rank 75, but this game seems like it is more for advanced players.

That’s unfortunate but listen the advice I can give is to focus on what you’re opponents tend to do and then learn how to punish it no block strings are negative by the nature of fighting games only a few are going to be plus on block learn what you can do when your opponent does something negative if you know they are going to poke just grab them or poke them first

If they always poke, try to notice their pattern. Intercept it with a grab. They will have to start respecting that u can grab them. Just remember that grabs hit high and will miss them if they start delaying their poke or if they duck without blocking. If they start doing that after respecting ur grab option, just start trying to hit them while they are waking up.

If you don't have a quick mid, and you don't want to poke. Just jump forward or step back.

Neither of those get your back your turn it just resets neutral but those are definitely good options

oh yea definitely! i think restting neutral is better than getting your poke blocked and losing your turn though. not a huge fan of pokes in this game (loved them in mk11 though)@@xenoryu

Absolutely agree..What I’m trying to to do with game is find a way to eliminate some of the unnecessary mind games that the game has finding away around pokes was my first step towards that your points are really valid and appreciated

Smoke doesn’t have a mid starter but his fwd 3 string is a low 12fr starter so that works just as good Johnny,geras, lui kang and nitara

Hit poke. Follow by 7 frame mid.. Block poke. Poke back. Grab or jump . Very simple

@@xenoryu i disagree ... look at pro players ...on the very high lvl ...Shang is maybe one of the best in the game ... people also things Rain is not good ... but he can also do stuff where u cant even moving . outside Raiden and Baraka ...the game and the characters are overall balanced ... Nitara has also some cool tricks ...

are you saying you should use a mid instead of a poke? not every character is blessed with a fast mid like Kung Lao or Johnny, no offense but this is a dumb suggestion

No it’s just and option and essentially the best way to not get poked on because what happens if they don’t poke?because you’re character doesn’t have a fast mid or maybe you’re afraid to use your mid you poke your opponent and they block it then they get back the turn the point of the video is that you can get trapped in an unnecessary mind game of poking because you have no mids so poke or go into your mid you can also jump or dash back but the best way is to use your mid

Shangs mid might be decent but he has one of the best zoning kits (besides arguably Reikos stars) in the game so there had to be some compensation for it to not make him too busted and he has to work more when a opponent actually closes in on him. It's always the whole tool kit that matters not just one specific point and 1 char suddenly is way better then the other.

@@LilYungGrabBagJr nice theory but you describe here mindless spamming and not zoning with Anti airs etc. And one touch from Shang sends you again full screen for more zoning. Sure there's counterplay but if there wouldn't it would just be busted.

It’s honestly the same for a lot of characters in the game raiden has a 18fr mid for example and characters that has 12fr mids are in some what a better situation and -5 or lower a 12fr will not be able take back rightful turn
