Wir haben einen Opel. Als Amerikanerin, finde ich die Automarke echt cool. Es erinnert mich an ein Superhelden-Logo. Wir nennen es liebevoll unser Opelchen. 🖤

We've owned a whole series of Volkswagens, but when I was in Austria our rental was an Opel and it was actually great! My parents and brother are BMW people ... fun to drive, not fun to repair. (But my motorcycle is a BMW ... same comments.) My grandmother was an Audi enthusiast until she was older and liked the comfort of a Mercedes. Overall, the German brands are strong with our family here in the US.

Maybe because it's marketed as Vauxhall in the UK and outside of Europe? And also Holden in Australia. My first car which I got in the mid '90s was an elderly Opel Kadett, which I was informed was the equivalent of a Vauxhall Astra (the name change in the UK happened in the '80s, so that's why mine still had the old name).

Ich glaube, in Polen weiß jeder, wie man deutsche Automarken liest. Schon als Kind erinnere ich mich an ein Lied über Benzinknappheit, in dem eine der Strophen lautete: "zmienię Porsche na gorsze" (Ich tausche Porsche gegen schlechter - das reimt sich auf Polnisch). Aber mit einer deutschen Marke - Setra :-P PS. Apropos Mercedes und sein Stern - es gab einen Witz, in dem ein Fahrer einen Anhalter mitnimmt und der Anhalter ihn fragt, was für ein Auto das ist. Und er sagt ihm, dass es ein schöner Mercedes ist. Und der Anhalter fragt: "Und was ist das?" Der Fahrer will sich über ihn lustig machen und sagt: "Das ist eine Waffenvisier. Siehst du die Fußgänger - ich werde sie gleich überfahren!" Und er tut so, als wolle er sie überfahren, wendet aber natürlich im letzten Moment. Der Anhalter sagt: "Oh, Herr Fahrer, schlechter Waffenvisier - wenn ich die Tür nicht geöffnet hätte, hätten wir sie nicht angefahren...".

The company / car was named after one of the founders' daughters, Mercedes Jellinek, so it's a soft "c", as per its Spanish origins

Even among English speakers who know that the 'e' in Porsche isn't silent, most of them still pronounce it wrong. They say say something like Porsh-uh. Tom Cruise did a good job in that clip though.

We love your "lustigen Lehrerin" because those are words that stick in your mind. However, the "Bussen müssen wackeln" are more common in Germany than the four-wheeled donkeys called Bayern Motor Wagen (BMW).

Wie spricht man "Chevrolet" aus? (-Weil ich einen Chevrolet im Video gesehen haben!) Wenn die Kraftfahrzeug ein Auto ist, es ist männlich. Wenn die Kraftfahrzeug ein Motorrad ist, es ist weiblich. BMW macht beide Autos und Motoräder, -Manchmal DER BMW, manchmal DIE BMW!

Als Italiener sage ich Pòrsche mit offenem o. Ich liebe BMWs mit weicher Federung. In meinem italienischen Dialekt heißt Volkswagen ....Voswagen, Auf Italienisch schreibe ich es so....Fosvaghen. Ich fahre Volk!!!! Du vergisst die Marke NSU, die auf Italienisch bedeutete, .Steigen Sie nicht betrunken ins Auto. Non, Salire, Ubriachi.😂
