Video Notes: Part One: 告别 Saying Goodbye If you are leaving: -再见:formal -拜拜:informal,often used by younger people -回见:informal, see you around -我先走了:informal,i'm off If the other person is leaving: -慢走:take care -有空常来玩:come visit anytime -保重:formal, take care(literally means: keep fit) -一路顺风:have a safe trip -一路平安: have a good trip Phrases you can add to goodbyes: -下次再聊:talk to you later -有空再聊: talk to you later -有空再聚:see you soon -常联系:keep in touch Cultural Note: -“下次再+V“ or “有空再+V” don't mean that actual plans will be made, they're simply a polite formality (it's best to reply with "好“ and take your leave) -"改天我请你吃饭”: Let me invite you to dinner sometime. Once again, this is only to be polite and isn't an actual invitation! If they actually meant to invite you to eat, they'd give you a specific time (Ex. 【名字】,明天我请你吃饭。七点,学校旁边那家川菜馆。) Part 2: 恭维话 Compliments -Basic compliments for anything: 不错,真好,挺好的 To compliment someone: -你真牛:You are awesome (牛(cow)= 厉害)(add a thumbs up added for clarity) -你真厉害:You are amazing -六六六/666: You are awesome Responding to compliments -哪里哪里?:I'm flattered. (Literally: Where? Where?) 哪里哪里 adds a sense of humbleness which is common in Chinese culture -没有没有:no, no -一搬一搬: kind of -你过将了:formal, You flatter me -过奖过奖:formal, I'm flattered 过将 literally means "too much praise" -我不行:I didn't do well -我做得还不够好。: I didn't do that so well 大家加油!

I really like these videos were you discuss things. I first used it as a listening comprehension and then added on by watching and reading, the whole audio and subtitles are extremely useful!! Also in addition to the actual words and phrases you focus on in each video, the fact that this is conducted as a conversation helps to learn ways to interact and discuss with others. Those are things that I personally find hard to find in other study materials. Thank you!

That invitation for dinner is quite similar on how we Filipino ask "Kain" (verb) or "Kain Tayo" (join me (or us) on table) literal: "Eat" (Kain) "Us" (Tayo). This is being said when you are already eating regardless whether you are eating at the table or standing. You may just say "Sige, salamat!" (No! Thanks) do not eat unless the person is insistedly asking. It's just being polite.

This is a good show for westerners to watch and learn Chinese. I lived in China for 6 years and understand the language. These women on this show are doing great. Westerners don't forget about the 4 TONES! The most important!
@ineselkerraz7730
@ineselkerraz7730 4 жыл бұрын
Do you think foreigners should learn tones by heart from the beginning or is it possible to catch up the tones while practicing ? What I mean is, do people tend to remember the tone of a word after hearing the said word many times in their life ? Or it doesn't work this way ?
@itsoktolovechina
@itsoktolovechina 4 жыл бұрын
@@ineselkerraz7730 It doesnt really work that way. Ive seen it many times with foreigners in china. Chinese people cannot not understand you if you dont use the right tone. I recommemd memorising the tones from the beginning or start now. Then it will come natural to you in the future without having to think about it
@ineselkerraz7730
@ineselkerraz7730 4 жыл бұрын
@@itsoktolovechina It's strange because I feel like I learned the tones of some words just by hearing them, but it's maybe because they can be used as isolated words. For example we often hear "我知道" on it's own, not followed but something else so it's easy to catch up the tone of 知道 I think, but yeah it can't work with everything
@ineselkerraz7730
@ineselkerraz7730 4 жыл бұрын
@@itsoktolovechina The fact is that even chinese people learn the tones with 拼音 when they are young, so yeah it's indeed not natural, I will have to fight my fears of learning those tones perfectly 😭
@ineselkerraz7730
@ineselkerraz7730 4 жыл бұрын
@@itsoktolovechina I still have one question since you seem to have experience about it, how much time does it take for tones to become natural ? I know it depends on people and on their age, but do you have an average idea for someone who wants to speak at least at an intermediate level ? I'm indeed not talking about the vocabulary and the grammar knowledge, just the tones
@Jilli8310

I really enjoyed this video. I found myself recognizing more vocabulary. Just one thing I found very interesting though, in my culture, 666, is not said or meant in a positive way. It is used to represent the antichrist or the devil as mentioned in the new testament of the bible. It's definitely not used as a sign of love or peace. It's amazing how things mean different things to different people. Just like the number 13 really has no meaning in Chinese culture as unlucky, but 4 does, and 8 is lucky. My phone number has almost all 8's. I guess I'm pretty lucky then, huh? Thank you for such an informative lesson, as always, I'm forever grateful. 谢谢你, 老师。😊

When I was preparing with my Church's group the teacher asked us about the meaning a 666, I heard that the meaning it's not the "devil's number", for some people it's that meaning. The teacher said that, means the name of a king that hunted Christian people, Nerón, in Greek because the apocalysis was written in that language.

It’s quite interesting when you look at lucky numbers in Chinese culture as compared to Western/European cultures. Where I come from: 666 represents the Devil, and 13 is a highly unlucky number (it refers to the last supper before Jesus was crucified). On the other hand, in my country, most people consider 4 to be a lucky number - because it refers to the 4-leaf clover which is often described in relation to leprechauns, who represent good fortune.

是的,“待会儿见”,“一会儿见”,就是晚一会儿见面的意思,通常用于很快就会见面。

在我文化里,666是用来代表魔鬼。所以我们不喜欢用这个号。人们一听到就悄悄地看看你啥意思。不过今天的视频很不错,见天好像是我第一次看你们的视频,你们教学的模式挺好的👍👍

i heard, some use "xiexie" instead of "nali nali", is that true?

Yes. People say 哪里哪里(nali nali) to express that they feel flattered and want to be humble, but if they say 谢谢(xie xie) , it means that they thank you for your encouragement and feel proud of what they have done.
