I sent a thank you letter to my children’s pediatrician and the Doctor awarded my 3 year old a beautiful scholarship to a preschool. I had no idea he was looking for a child to sponsor. Thank you letters are just a great habit. You just NEVER KNOW. Job interviews, gifts, experiences- send the thank you! Gratitude is powerful ♥️

After the end of my interview, I was in a good mood. Therefore I wrote an email thanking them, and telling how pleasant our conversation was. Five minutes later I received a reply saying pretty much the same. They told me it would take a month to get back to me with a decision, but they offer me the job less than a week after that instead =) Thanks Don!

I had my 2nd job interview yesterday, was feeling despondent all day and a bit better today after waking up, feeling I had blown the opportunity, didn't at all feel like writing a thank you letter but your video convinced me to do so. I emailed them at noon and 3 hours later they called me saying the job was mine!

Considering the hundreds of job applications I send out each week and the hundreds of employers that do not look at my application or quickly reject me, I am grateful to the 4-5 employers that took the time to respond to my resume and take time out of their busy schedule to interview me because they managed to see potential in me. I absolutely will write thank-you notes.

I've gotten a job off of a thank you letter and it changed my life. Like Don said it's not everything but it shows the hiring manager you are interested and in their busy schedule it puts your name back in their thoughts. Its like marketing...it's another chance to remind the hiring manager a few days later about everything you bring to the table.

I just want to share a story about what just happened to me while watching your video. I'm watching your video and I decide to send a thank you follow up letter/email to one of the jobs that I've been waiting for. Not even 15 minutes later I get a call and they informed me that I should have already started doing the background check and have had a start date. My thank you letter not only showed them I was still interested but also showed them that I haven't started yet. So thank you. Thank you for making this video that encouraged me to write that email. I would have gotten passed up due to them thinking I was rejecting the job by not showing up.

I never send thank you letters/emails because too many people do it these days automatically because somebody told them to do so. I always say my 'thank you' final notes in person during my last stage of the interview. Sending thank you notes is passe these days and no recruiter cares about them unless you were already they favorite candidate (before sending that note). Sending a thank you note is an attempt to influence/trigger interviewer's emotions which is something that should not be a part of the final candidate review (decision making).

It shows a certain value and understanding of human connection if done properly, but a lot depends on the type of job. Many tech employers are quite impersonal. Giving away handwriting these days has a certain novelty. It can also tell you a lot about the interviewer when they give you zero feedback after your 4th interview with them.

Since I never know if I’m a top three, I will dedicate only 30 minutes of my life to these letters. I’m so sick of these protocols. People are so complicated. It’s either you liked me or you don’t- thank you letter or not. I make sure to thank you at the interview and that should be it. After wasting my time with thank you letters, my letters are now only a few sentences long. I thank you again for your time and I’m out. Life’s too short to fool around.

Please I need to ask you a question; can we take about one minute or two to thank people who are interviewing us before they start the interview, and it would be it, instead of sending an email or a thank you note? Or can we take few copies of thank you note which we can hand to the people who are interviewing us after the interview is over? Which works better for a professional job interview? Thanks again.

Even a rejection is an opportunity to connect. Maybe it didn't work for that job, but who knows, it is better to not burn bridges and ask for feedback as to why you didn't get the job. You might be able to get valuable information that will help you in the next interview.
@louisborselio8608

@@mardaya I admire your optimism, but when an interviewer at the end of the interview shakes your hand and says Good luck. What They are saying is "Good Luck finding a job somewhere else because you sure as hell ain't working here." So a thank you letter will go straight to the waste paper basket. They'll read the name at the bottom of the letter to save themselves time. If it's not the name of one they are considering, into the trash it goes. Interviews that end with. "Will you be able to come in for another interview?" "Here's my card. Give me a call sometime next week" Or "What's your phone number again?" And they write it on their note pad or enter in to their cell. That's the sign to send a Thank You letter. But "Good Luck"? No. Good luck means Get Lost!
@mardaya
@mardaya 3 жыл бұрын
@@louisborselio8608 Agree, not every rejection will give you feedback. But there is a slight percentage it will come back to you. One time I got rejected from a job I interviewed for, and then the employer called me back three months later for another position that opened up within the company. It was not the same position that I originally applied for but similar, I was really surprised because I had already moved on to another company. They kept my resume on file and called me back and in that call, he straight offered me the job, I didn't have to interview again if I had taken that job. I was really surprised but they do save your resume. You never know.

Don is on point. If you bombed the interview, no thank you note, pain letter, or 30-60-90 day plan is going to cover for that. If the employer already made up his/her mind about you during and after the interview, you can’t change that unless something drastic happens. A follow up note only carries about 5-10 percent of the weight just as Don said.

Thank You Letters don't always work, but they don't hurt either "Thanking them for their time, for inviting you to an interview, letting them know you are still interested in this position" It may carry 5-10+% of the weight, but not 50%/ 60%. If you don't have no or too little previous experiences, Thank You Letters won't work. It only meant to show appreciation, to nudge them a bit in your direction, but won't change their minds. For 3 candidates they like equally, it will make a difference, but if you are the 8#/9#, it won't work. In general, Thank You Letter indeed worked before, and sometimes make a complete difference. Besides US it also worked in Europe, where follow-up is less common. Send within 24 hours after the interview, and you can plan/ draft it before the interview, and just change a few thing afterwards and send in a couple of hours. If you've screwed the interviews, it's an opportunity to correct a "bad" interview, bring the lost points you forgot to mention in the interview and add more values.

I couldn't disagree more, not everyone sends a thank you letter, and every time I took the time to nail, I got the job.

I know this video was years ago, but I hope you still check it. I am facing this issue. I went to another city for an interview yesterday and forgot to send a thank you note. There were 2 people, and I forgot the name of one of them. I have the contact of the other interviewer. How bad is it if I ask for the name and contact of the person I forgot the name to send you a thank you letter. Are they going to think I am not good and unprofessional for forgetting the person's name? Tomorrow will complete 2 days that I had the interview. I don't what to do.

Wtf! I see this right after sending a thank you text to my project coordinator/interviewer and it was painful. It seems overly expected and cringe. Thanking someone for doing ones job is disingenuousness. But I'm socially awkward so wellsee

Can I send it 4 days after the interview, including two weekend days? also, there was a mix up because they didn’t know I was coming to the interview since I didn’t confirm, but I thought the email they sent was confirmation so didn’t confirm, but they still did it instead of rescheduling and one of the interviewers had to leave early. Should I apologize for the mixup in my email?
