While hospitals have focused on improving hand washing habits, it's time to ALSO make sure multi-use equipment is clean and safe. There's a variety of equipment that are used on multiple patients often in quick succession--blood pressure devices on wheels and stethescopes are common examples. If not cleaned, these portable devices can readily transmit micro-organisms from one patient to the next. Just like we should have clean hands, multi-use equipment need to be cleaned for each patient.
