Exactly. Confident lines doesn’t mean accurate. If you’re line was accurate but lacked the confidence, it will show. Try again and again until you’ve edited the perfect line. Good job pointing this out.

I realize the fish analogy works here too. Trace an artwork, get one piece of art. Learn from an artwork, understand how to draw more. Youre a fucking hero this soft art community needs to improve. Im glad to see little to no hate towards you. You have a great and experienced understanding of how to make good art. And you want people to improve. You want them to be great. You care. Its wonderfull. We need more people like you. By constant praise and gentleness people dont see their parts to improve on and get crabby when criticised. Theyre living in a bubble, having a limit to improvement. Glad youre popping that.

Can't even begin to describe how much I needed this!! I've been making 3D models (Design doll) and tracing over them for years. I'd draw the features (eyes, mouth, etc.), hair, outfits, and so on by myself so I can easily draw those things on my own but when it comes to drawing things anatomically, drawing different poses, or finding placement for features i have essentially shot myself in the foot. I'm hoping doing my "tracing" this way (along side taking art lessons) can help me ease into getting rid of my crutch all together and learning to draw more confidently. Thank you!!

Your videos have been such an inspiration for me. I used to feel so ashamed for needing references and never wanted to show other people my drawing process. But, starting my characters the way that you do it here has actually helped me learn anatomy faster and draw more confidently.

I remember this saying from someone stating that art is someone's interpretation of real life. And I try so hard to ingrain that mentality because I want to be perfect for everything like anatomy but in the end, no one cares about it being anatomically perfect if it doesn't look good. I really like you dude bc you're one of the few artists that I've come across that aren't obsess in copying reality (not that there's any wrong with that but I've noticed recently that this mentality isn't helping me as an artist bc Ive been stuck in the same place/negative mentality for a long time now)

I mention you use a lot of photos for masking (like in this video) or just references with your eyes but would an artist run into problem legally if someone were to use google photos in an original work? Coming up with character designs, poses, modifying a few things in the drawing (with the photo as the core silhouette)

Agreed, what I do instead is to trace the general forms and use that as a reference for the start of the drawing. Not to actually be the drawing tho

if you're only capable of tracing then please do that but dont settle to trace forever work on getting better at drawing so that eventually you wont need to trace

During your intro when you start dancing/bobing and weaving I pictured your mom walking into your room picking up laundry and you yelling at her to get out.
