Forget Capture One and Lightroom export settings for Instagram and social media. The method I'll show you in this video is far superior to any kind of sharpening function you can find in any other software!
My favorite method is to sharpen and export high-quality images for Instagram using a stunning FREE Photoshop plugin called Web Sharpener. A 1-CLICK workflow to get incredible razor-sharp photos to upload on your Facebook, LinkedIn, and other social platforms.

@@AndreaLivieriPhoto I've noticed when I upload an image/portrait to linkedin with a grey background, I get a banding look. Looks like it's being compressed and looks terrible in the grey areas. Ever ran into this? Any ideas? It's not in the original image but appears when uploaded.

Hi Geoff, thanks so much for the comment, and glad you found the video useful. I use the Web Sharpener just for the web. Printing is a different animal, the workflow is kind of similar but with substantial differences. There are other aspects that come to play on print, like the print size, paper, and proofing. So, the topic would need an entire video :)

Hi thanks for this. I lost mainly portraits do you have any idea of settings that are ideal for that or is this best for landscape etc? Also, do you know any actions that can incorporate a border so that my export isn’t cropped and can retain the original composition. It would be amazing to be able to do that with your plug in also!
@AndreaLivieriPhoto
@AndreaLivieriPhoto Жыл бұрын
Hi Barry, thanks for the comment, and glad you enjoyed the video. The settings are very subjective, and it really depends on how and what you shoot. The best practice is to create different recipes with different settings and evaluate which one works the best for the specific image content. For example, the sharpening can be really different from a portrait captured in natural light vs flash light. About the white borders action, it's pretty easy to create one. A quick search on YT or Google and you'll find tons of free actions or tutorials to build your own. ps. the plug-in is not mine. Andreas Resch is the developer. I hope this helps. Ciao :)

Hi Andrea, I wonder if there is a way to create/improve the output recipe directly within Capture One, that would remove an extra step? Love the videos!
@AndreaLivieriPhoto
@AndreaLivieriPhoto Жыл бұрын
Hi Pierre, thanks for the comment, and glad you enjoy the video! The output sharpening in Capture One is great. This technique is very specific for images you want that notch higher in detail (in general landscape images). In this video, I went through my CO output settings for web kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bq2AddF4l8_QfXk.html I hope this helps :) Ciao

So I see that you have the TK actions panel in your tools. There is a web sharpener integrated as well. Have you compared the TK sharpener vs. the web sharpener you are introducing here?
@AndreaLivieriPhoto
@AndreaLivieriPhoto 2 жыл бұрын
Correct, the TK actions panel has a web sharpener integrated and it works pretty well. However, it doesn't have as many functions and customizations as the Web Sharpener V.2. You can't adjust the output contrast and saturation (you have to add them manually using two new adj layers), no option to diversify the amount of sharpening for low & high-frequency details, no independent layers to tweak the values after the conversion, and many other interesting adjustments to customize the sequence. Anyway, both panels work beautifully, it really depends on how much control you want to have on the output image. Ciao ;)

Hi Andrea, I saw that you have the TK8 panels and you can do exactly the same thing with the TK8 panel. Why don’t you use it?
@AndreaLivieriPhoto
@AndreaLivieriPhoto 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for stopping by. Of course, the TK8 panel has its sharpening action integrated on it (even though it’s less customizable) but the purpose of this video was to give an alternative free option that provides equally excellent results. The TK panel has many extra functionalities that many photographers don’t use or don’t need, so sharpening wise, the Web Sharpener is an amazing option. That’s it :)

Can I also follow that workflow with JPEG files (working with a Fujix100V and the built in recipes) or do you recommend something different for JPEG files?
@AndreaLivieriPhoto
@AndreaLivieriPhoto Жыл бұрын
Hi Leon, thanks for stopping by. Sharpening JPEGs is different since they already have a decent amount of sharpening baked into the file. You can use this workflow, but make sure to keep the sharpness lower than what you would normally use for a raw file. Ciao.

Hi Jan, thanks for stopping by. Honestly, I don't know if there is a different way to install the plugin. You may ask directly to the developer, but I'm pretty sure that for the recent Photoshop versions you have to go through the Creative Cloud app. Ciao

@AndreaLivieriPhoto
@AndreaLivieriPhoto Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for stopping by. Both action panels work equally well, and the final result is the same. For this video, I chose the WS to give people a free option that is as good as the TK8. WS is also capable of batch-processing multiple images. I hope this helps. Ciao :)

Compliment for the video and thanks for the explanation, but I would have a question. I often upload photos on 500px and ViewBug at original size in JPG format, means from 20MP to 24MP. Is it possible to use Web Sharpener to get the same image with the original dimensions? If yes how to do it?
@AndreaLivieriPhoto
@AndreaLivieriPhoto Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much, Roberto! Glad you enjoyed the video. For the same output resolution, set the "Final Size:" field to the same size as the original file. If your original file has 6000px long-side, you should add that value to "Final Size:". I hope this helps. Ciao

@@AndreaLivieriPhoto Andrea thanks for your reply. Note that I already did what you suggested, but I got the following warning: "Error. The image size is too small.The sharpening will be aborted". Thanks in any case. Cheers
@AndreaLivieriPhoto
@AndreaLivieriPhoto Жыл бұрын
Actually, you're right. I've just realized that the panel spits out an error message. That's weird. Anyway, another option is to sharpen the full-res image by using the HighPass filter you can find in the Top Bar Menu --> Filter --> Other --> HighPass. You just need to duplicate the base layer (your photo) and apply a HighPass filter with a Radius of 3 pixels (this is a great starting point). Then switch the Layer's blending mode of the duplicated layer to "Overlay" or "SoftLight" for a more gentle sharpening effect. And then export the image with the regular export function in Photoshop. I hope this helps.

Or use Topaz Sharpen before export no ?
@AndreaLivieriPhoto

Topaz Sharpen is more targeted to the input sharpening rather than output sharpening. It surely helps to set a good base, but it comes into play in the early stage (raw pre-sharpening).
