I'll have to give this a try. I've use the Foraxx Palette in the past and have never liked the results. But just for stars I should give this a try

I have only had 2 objects look good in the palette, but use it every time for stars! Just like my example on the california, the foraxx palette was UGLY! Perfect stars though :)

I started a while back combining the stars as HSO with background neutralization plus SPCC getting good results. I will give a try with this one. Thanks

I have been able to use spcc sometimes with ok results too. The annoying thing for me is if you crop and then you forget to imagesolve. SPCC will fail a lot with a very large number of stars too. For instance, the image I use as an example in my video failed spcc (it detected 26,000 stars).

can I ask a question about gradient correction in PI. I am finding that all of DBE/ABE/new grad corr leaves a weird banding in the background in my Ha images- I have had to go back to Siril background extraction (with dither selected) which works best. Any advice on getting same result in PI?

Yes! Split your RGB channels. Assign the Red to H-alpha, then either assign Green or Blue to OIII or average Green and Blue and call that new image OIII

Great video and tip! Do you have to generate the foraxx image even if you only need the stars?

I think so. I dont see an option to turn it off. The script is fast, so it really doesnt matter a whole lot. Also I have found i have used the generated palette and masks for processing even if I was going to use a different palette. Like, if I like how it made some core of a nebula look and would end up averaging the foraxx core into my image.

Makes sense. I've used it as a starting point as well...haven't had too many images where I was loving the raw foraxx. Try putting the foraxx into Bills NBnormalization😉

The script yells at you if you leave them blank. Foraxx doesnt work for all nebula but when it does it works realllyyyy well. Here is my favorite foraxx image I did. astrob.in/tymdsf/0/
