Not all websites prompt for a Bitwarden passkey, also you can't delete them without deleting the whole entry. I'll wait until this is more fleshed out

activation on desktop is of little use without the corresponding feature on the app, so we keep waiting for the release on mobile; thanks for your commitment

At least we can save the passkeys on a platform agnostic vault. The passkeys for google or apple were tied to the device previously. I still think sqrl would have been better.

@@shApYT of course we are grateful for this agnostic vault but we need ASAP the same features in the mobile app (and but the way some help from Mozilla for us, Firefox users...).

Does this work with the Android app or just the extension? Does it also need the desktop app for windows hello/biometrics? What about linux? Does the bitwarden linux application support howdy/biometrics?

I'm not really seeing an advantage to using passkeys. You still pretty much have to go through the same steps to login and now you have both a passkey and a password which means there's two possible vectors for breaking into your account. What am I missing?
@shApYT
@shApYT 8 ай бұрын
You don't need to enter a password when logging into shopify or google.
@ADCar

But don't you need to actively click on the Bitwarden entry for the site when the prompt is given. How is this any different from just using a password in the first place?
@shApYT

Practically, I don't see the difference, but I know security wise there is. I just don't remember why it is better.@@ADCar

Passkeys reduce the attack vector for accounts, or at least they will when fully implemented to the point where you can turn off password auth in your accounts. During setting one up, a keypair is created. One of the keys is the public key, which gets sent off to the service. The other is the private key which doesn't leave your device, or Bitwarden vault if you use this Bitwarden feature. After that is done, when you login, the service sends a random or time-based challenge to your device, asking it to sign it. Your device then signs it using the private key, and sends it back. The service then verifies that it was signed using your private key by running it against the public key it has in its database. So the private key never leaves the device or BW account. It's also more secure because the challenge is random or time-based, so if an attacker lifts a signed challenge, it would only work once.

@Bitwarden Why are you still going on about this nonsense. As long as it is only in the browser extension, it's completely useless. It needs to be implemented in the actual Bitwarden downloaded program if you want to see adoption. Of course, it would've been even better if you stopped wasting time on passkeys and actually focused on your product - a passWORD manager.

I use the extension every day, not everyone use the program in the same way as you... Before engaging in nonsense, consider the numerous advantages of a passkey over a password, regardless of its strength 🤦‍♂🤦‍♂
