Or just those who qualify for asylum. Or just those young and fit enough, that can work menial labour for minimum wage. It LITERALLY says: send me those who need the best that America has to offer, not because they deserve it, but BECAUSE THEY NEED IT! Why? It's because grateful and thankful people have proven to become the best kind of citizens a growing country needs.

Corrupt governments are preferred because they can be easily bought off by rich multinational corporation. And yet people living under those conditions flee where? To America! The Border Patrol in the San Ysidro, California area was always busy when I lived very close to that area, and I never saw incidents of inhumane treatment on their part. Also, I never saw military (Guard) elements involved in border management. What recently happened at the Texas/Mexico border is tragic beyond reckoning and makes me doubt the legality of the Texas military units blocking the Border Patrol from getting to the river. Whether the mom and her two children could have been saved in any case is unclear. But that's not the entire point. We need to do better as a country to ensure the safety and humane treatment of fellow human beings. If we need to have rescue boats at the ready, that's what we should have. For a country with vast resources to deny help to people with nothing is unconscionable. Our immigration policy has been problematic for decades and needs to be addressed, and I don't have a clue where to even begin. But we have to start somewhere. In any case, we need to help safeguard the immigrants, not set them up for increased danger by using floating barriers and razor wire . If they're desperate to get in, let them in SAFELY. We can sort out details later. When people are trying to escape the various awful places and conditions in their places of origin, the USA is seen as a last chance for SURVIVAL. It's just that basic. The vast majority of immigrants I've seen aren't criminals. They want to work and stay out of trouble.

Transporting people unwillingly or unwittingly across state lines should run the TX and FL governments afoul of the laws against human trafficking, possibly even the Mann Act (which historically was used to jail Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis). The language of the Mann Act was written to prohibit transporting minors across state lines "for immoral purposes". If bussing/flying people, including sub-adults, from a warm Southern climate to the cold winter streets of the northern US and leaving them to fend for themselves, or to be a financial drain on political enemies who posess a greater sense of compassion......well, if that isn't immoral then I don't know what is.

...but if we don't believe in any divine being and/or creator that actually does own it and has put us in charge of it as stewards, what is to keep them from thinking that they don't own it?

Hum, lets think about what the US has been doing to the countries south of our border. If we didn't muddle in their affairs and ruin their governments they wouldn't want to leave their home.

The fact is every human life matters, and every human life has as much reason to be on this planet and live. but some people just don't understand this is what humanity is all about. no matter what color you're skin is or what cultural background you come from. you have as much right to life as anyone else. and the only real question is when does human life really begin? and that is a question better left up to biologists.

When bringing up the 80s, I definitely remember Regan as a presence, but thought of him as more of a rich first person. I tend to think of Willie Nelson and his song Livin' In the Promised Land. Give us your tired and weak And we will make them strong Bring us your foreign songs And we will sing along Leave us your broken dreams We'll give them time to mend There's still a lot of love Living in the promiseland Living in the promiseland Our dreams are made of steel The prayer of every man Is to know how freedom feels There is a winding road 'Cross the shifting sands And room for everyone Living in the promiseland So they came from a distant isle Aimless woman, faithless child Like a bad dream Until there was no room at all No place to run and no place to fall Give us your daily bread We have no shoes to wear No place to call our own Only this cross to bear We are the multitudes Lend us a helping hand Is there no love anymore? Living in the promiseland Living in the promiseland Our dreams are made of steel The prayer of every man Is to know how freedom feels There is a winding road 'Cross the shifting sands And room for everyone Living in the promiseland And room for everyone Living in the promiseland

I grew up picking cherries in Michigan with migrants, and up the peninsula was the Native American Indian reservation. I grew up playing with kids whose language I did not know, but we understood hide and seek, and tag, and catch. Why can't we all accept everyone.

Nailed it.. they ALWAYS ask "what about the children"... Those CHILDREN drowned to death and they couldn't give two halves of a fuck that the suffered one of the most agonizing ways of death. They don't care about children. They don't care about "all lives" They don't care about ANYONE but themselves. Also just a side note...blocking a waterway is a crime.

Whenever someone doesn't want to fix a problem, they use the excuse, "This won't solve it." 1. How do you know without trying? (unless obvious like put peanut butter on a broken arm) 2. Usually large problems require multiple solutions, the combined effects thereof being less instances of the problem. EXAMPLE: Car wrecks used to be the number one killer of teens in The USA. We had to solve this to keep our kids alive. No one thing would stop it. Drivers license AND safety belts AND anti-lock brakes AND airbags AND speed limits AND split highways AND drunk driving laws AND registration... so we have LESS of the bad. Instead MAGA acts like if ONE THING cannot completely stop a bad thing from happening, then it's God's will and we shouldn't even bother trying. - additionally, what self-loathing does one have to have inside to think they cannot DO anything, cannot SOLVE anything... no wonder they need a daddy so bad.

We cannot get both sides to agree on a comphrensive immigration plan. I live in Texas and governor wheels Abbott thinking like he is king...forgetting or not caring that Texas is Mexico. I have always voted for what is moral and some people do not care unless they are violated..wheels needs to learn his history..

The vast majority of people trying to get into this country are honest and hard working. They have enough drive and ambition to risk their lives to get here. We are getting the best people these other countries have to offer. We should be welcoming them with open arms. They are no different than the Irish, Italians, French, Germans, Austrians, British and all the other immigrants that have been coming here to make a better life since this country was founded. I'm in the construction industry and I have seen first hand how hardworking Hispanic people are. They have built successful businesses as framers, roofers, masons, tile setters, concrete contractors, landscaping contractors ...all the trades that are backbreaking jobs that fewer and fewer white people are willing to do. The quality of their work has been excellent in the projects I've been involved in. I have never had a bad experience with any Hispanic workers. I cannot say the same for some of the white contractors I have delt with....including the Amish.

@sawas24215 ай бұрын
One of my family members used to be a framer on construction sites. It can be dangerous work, and it's hard work, but it paid pretty well for a job that doesn't require a degree. His supervisor could not get most of the American workers to get off their phones long enough to get the jobs done, and many of them who were hired either quit almost immediately or else stayed but called in "sick" routinely. The supervisor freely admitted the immigrant workers were the backbone of getting anything actually built to completion and it would not have been possible without their contributions. I'm not saying don't have a legal process that must be followed for immigration....I'm just saying the legal process is broken and CONGRESS could fix this but it benefits them (in the form of anger translated to votes) not to fix it so they won't. This is on Congress!

I loved JLR Investiges, but in the last episode he was at the Cdn. border crying crisis. What crisis? He was the only one on Roham Rd. FFS! he said there needs to ba wall on the Cdn. border too. It is the longest undefended border in the world and I'd like to keep it that way! Refugees have frozen to death and lost extremities due to frostbite crossing the border. Let's not make it harder.
