"This is an interesting series that takes real life people (Jesse James, John Wesley Hardin, etc)...and dramatizes part of their real story with a continuing series character taking part in that story. Railroad Detective "Matt Clark" -- takes a role in tracking down famous outlaws from the Old West in stories that are at least partly based on the true accounts. In that sense, it's almost an anthology series, and as someone else pointed out, this odd structure poses some timeline conflicts with the real events, but it's a fun series with plenty of action to satisfy a western-hungry 1950's audience -- and it still holds up pretty well 55 years later. Clark cuts a powerful figure in his western gear as he goes up against some of history's baddest baddies. And his girl-sidekick Frankie is quite a dish. If you're a western fan, be sure to check it out if you have a chance."

LMAO! This detective is the Forest Gump of westerns. And again never happened that way, there was no 'showdown' in good lighting. As per Pete Maxwell, midnight July 14 1881, Maxwell and Garrett waited in Maxwell's blacked out bedroom, when Billy came to the door, he saw shadows, asked Who is it? Garrett fired twice catching the Kid in the chest. No face to face, no showdown, no chance.

Billy was armed too but was out drawn by the sheriff even though they were both taken off guard because the sheriff recognized his voice. Here is what the official account says: "Western outlaw Billy the Kid met his demise at about 12:30 a.m. on July 14, 1881, when he went to his friend Pete Maxwell’s home in Fort Sumner, New Mexico in search of a slice of beef for a late-night snack. As the story goes, Billy-just 21 years old, but already a murderer who had escaped from jail and killed two guards in the process-made the mistake of walking into a darkened bedroom, where Lincoln County Sheriff Pat Garrett was questioning Maxwell. Both Garrett and Billy were armed, but Garrett shot first, killing Billy. At least, that’s the most widely-accepted version of events. But over the years, some of the murky details surrounding the death of Billy-whose real name probably was Henry McCarty, though he later went by the alias William Bonney-have proven to be fertile ground for alternative theories. Some have claimed that Garrett shot the wrong man and Billy escaped. To complicate matters further, at least two men emerged decades later who were believed by some to be Billy. @@TruthWillFreeYou Yes the history is murky alright. I'm an historian, my focus is wars, but I am familiar with the notorious personalities of the period. Had Billy lived I'm sure he would have reemerged somewhere, he wasn't one to fade into the background. There is a TV series Billy the Kid 2022, 2 Seasons so far, season one goes up to the start of the Lincoln County War. 2 has not aired yet. Also a very enjoyable movie you might watch, 'Old Henry' 2021.
