I can totally vouch for Marks story of sending fans product from 251 S. Park Ave - I hadn’t received a dynasty songbook after months so mark sent me one right away - I stayed in touch and over the years he hooked me up with trips to aucoin at 645 Madison and introduced me to Gene the day before Thxgiving 1981 - later he introduced me to Billy Idol and got me tickets to idol’s ritz show in 82 - later he got me Tina Turner comeback lps when he worked at capitol - wonderful person who always had the fans in mind!!! Thanks for the interview!!!

Great interview. I remember when I bought 'Killers', it was packaged as a double along with 'Dynasty' here in Australia. 'Nice Price' sticker on it. The record company released many of these for bands like early releases of double packs of records by The Clash etc. 2 for the price of one.

This was pure gold. The amount of new information about the Kiss world that Mark revealed in this podcast, was priceless. He made me feel like a fly on the wall, when he talked about the last days of the Kiss army. If you were a Kiss fan in the late 70's, you must watch this video. This is in my top 10- 3 Side of the Coin videos. Congratulation! very well done.

Wow, another great guest! Mark brought a lot to the story here. I always found it interesting KISS didn't try to capitalize on the image of Eric as a new character and new member during the Elder era, missing the opportunity all together in the album art. Mark illustrates that the behind the scenes were chaotic and misdirected, it shows in how that record and it's release turned out. We can appreciate how the art in this case reflects upon the artist. Still I love the Elder! After I listen to an Episode of 3 Sides I usually cue up a KISS record and today it's that classic mess of a record. Thanks again 3 Sides!!

Cool episode guys, I’m new to this channel and you guys brought up so many interesting points! I’ve been a fan since Alive I, I was real young about 14 years old then. After Love Gun it all started spiraling down for them and Dynasty was the beginning of the end even though I Was Made for Loving You went gold. The comeback tour in 96’ was very cool, I went and saw them at MSG and it was an awesome show 🤙 I remember wishing that I could’ve seen them in their ‘Hey Day’ for the Alive I or even the Alive II show but I was a bit too young to go on my own sadly…

I really appreciated it. I adore the turmoil between 1979/82 and the music too, obviously. I still want to learn more about the Unmasked period. How was the label and management reactions after listening to the album? How did the band behave when there was no North American tour? Perhaps the Aussie hysteria contributed to postpone what was about to come.

Great guest as always! Liked so many of his stories...of course the qualude/ bide one was hilarious!! Also enjoyed the one about him doing work on Gene's apartment, and how Mark got to know Gene better thru this experience. It was very interesting to get the perspective from someone who worked there who was not a fan. A couple of his comments really resonated with me. In particular, saying he felt the band was just buying time and running from their problems a bit. I could have listened to him for much longer...fascinating, great stuff !!

Paul ,in his book implied BIll Aucoin did some inappropriate things with kids . I never hear this bought up . If its not true then Pauls book should be off the shelf.If it is True then why did they wait to fire him. .If it is true then Kiss should never on their site remember him on the date he passed .. I know he helped them in the start but if he did those things,he does not not need ot be honored in any way ,quite the opposite if anything. It seems this is never covered tho .

Was it a case of Bill doing things with teenage boys while the band members were doing things with teenage girls?
@chuckvinyl811
@chuckvinyl811 Жыл бұрын
@@dvg4104 The difference is Bill would seek them as young as 14 . From what I have read KISS members only went down to 16 . Those 2 years are a big difference

@@chuckvinyl811 -- Those two years are significant. In both instances illegal, though. Maybe enough that the band didn't want to point fingers? Plus they felt indebted to Aucoin? Hindsight allows for more clarity.

The story about the coke reminded me when I was first introduced to pot. A new friend asked me if I wanted to “smoke a bowl”……all I thought of was a cereal bowl and why the fuck would I want to smoke one. And how would you do it. I would have liked to ask him if he remembers anything about when Eric lived on Long Island in smithtown. There was an addressed envelope I saw on the Eric Carr website that Paul had sent him. It was addressed to Eric Carr and Panera Saint at a smithtown address. I passed the street for years on the way to my doctor. I couldn’t help to go by the house a few times to see if anyone was outside and tell them that “a guy from KISS had lived there once. Never saw anyone outside. The night before one appointment I photocopied a pic from the Creatures era and a photo of the envelope and got the nerve to actually go and knock on the door. A little kid answered who looked like 10-12 years old. Of course he knew nothing about KISS and I think he thought I was some kind of weirdo……I left my number in case his dad wanted to call me about it. I thought maybe his dad was a fan, or at least knew of the band. I think it was the next day the dad called. I told him the same thing I told the kid. He didn’t seem impressed one bit. And probably just wanted to make sure I wasn’t coming back for his kid or something. It was a pretty big house on a corner lot but he told me it wasn’t the original house anyway. When Eric was staying there I would have been 19-20 so it would have been easy to just go by, as I grew up only a few miles away and was already a major fan. I went to the palladium show…..it would have been around that time. Had I known then I might have been able to get a ride with him there. Lol. Great show.

One HUGE point that everyone is missing: 1979-1981 Lots of NEW music was coming out , lots of "punk and new wave". I myself was a "classic rock" teen all the way - then I discovered the Ramones, The Clash , etc. So that's one thing . The OTHER thing that , well, nobody here will ever admit to is , KISS is a band you grow OUT of (and remember, I am not speaking about TODAY - I'm talking about back then ). Just as someone can grow out of Van Halen & Black Sabbath . All I'm saying is -- something NEW comes along and the OLD is all of a sudden in trouble. THINK : when Guns & Roses HIT BIG (as well as Metallica!). Your Quiet Riot and Twisted Sister LPs and tapes may have lost their flavor. And then ..... Marilyn Manson !

I think kiss should not have stopped the merchandise when it did! In 1980 I was 6 yrs old and would have kept buying toys and such! My friends and I at school were asking what happened 🤷🏻‍♂️! Kiss was not cool with teenagers and such, but us younger kids still loved them!

The more stories ya hear about Bill Aucoin and its wild to then see him do q & a's in the 1990s like he is the biggest square ever. If Bill were alive now he could just be his 'true self'. To be fair, some of the stories about Aucoin are a bit/very concerning and seemingly credibly as they come from multiple people, but the man is no longer here to defend himself so let's let it be, he has no family or anyone left behind so it will just go into the ether.
