In any SHTF scenario this prepper will want to have crackers with her. Here are a few simple tips in order to do just that :) Also if you are couponing to build your prepper's pantry or stockpile then this method may be valuable to give your hauls their long term storage life :)
This method uses Food Saver vacuuseal bags and 200cc oxygen absorbers and the original cracker box! Got this idea from Obsessiveprepperaz and northcarolina prepper who have excellent videos out on how to store crackers in glass jars! Check their videos out too :) Thanks for the inspiration guys :) Long live the cracker! :)

How long do the crackers last when vacuum sealed that's the only thing I'm finding is when people do videos like this they don't actually tell you how long their products have lasted them when they prep them however they are prepping them. So that would be the question like how long do you store the crackers before you find that they go steal on you

I love this idea. In thinking about it, though, I think I would seal them individually because the top has been opened. In a SHTF situation, you'd have to eat all 4 pretty quick or they would go stale.

Good thing about vacuum sealing , you can build up a good food supply once it might not be available.. I've been saving cookies , coffee, candy, etc.. not eating all of it vacuum seal some..

It's been 9 yrs. now🙂. I am just wondering if you opened any of them and if they still taste fresh as the day you bought them from the store? I am wanting to do this type of prepping for cheez-it and gold fish crackers. Would like to have them last a long time in food storage as can be. Thank you

I have a question. One of the first rules of long term storage is you can’t store anything with oils in them because the oil will always go rancid. Brown rice is a good example. It has natural oil in it so it can’t be stored long term. Ritz crackers have oil in them. So my question is this…is there a recommended storage time for storing crackers this way?

Bird was soothing to me as I watched I think the problem is with those who are easily distracted, hard of hearing, cannot multi-task, or are just plain ole' insensitive. Next time, place the bird in its cage RIGHT next to your work station, and pan over so we can admire it's beauty.😋

Took yer idea & ran with it. I used self-make seal bags. Put two packs in, cut to length bag, and did what ya did. Also, I put a zip-lock bag in as well as a oxy-zorber. What I don't use can seal back up in zip-lock with another oxy-zorber.

How long are you trying to save these for? Food saver (or generic brand vacuum bags) are air permeable. This means that they will allow air THROUGH the plastic. Slowly for sure, but it will still come in. The seal will only be good for between 6 months and a year, even with an oxy absorber in it. Call the company and talk to them about it (I did).

Go order the top sealer they are on eBay &also the company that sells the units. You will be amazed how often you will use it. Each time I open jars of dehydrated food I reseal it with a quick push of the button&they are protected for a very long time again. I don't have the regular jar size as I have a tall container &use it to put jars into and seal them. Jam jars, mustard jars, fruit jars as long as it has that little ring of sealant in the lid can be used. It is great & makes jars recycled.

Yes, here is what I have found: Spores need warm temperatures, a protein source and an anaerobic (no oxygen) environment and moisture in order to become active and produce toxin. Spores are not killed by boiling. Botulism is rare because conditions necessary for botulism include no oxygen, low-salt, low- acid, low-sugar environment at ambient temperatures plus moisture. (Source- Wikipedia).

I'm thinking of making shortbread and storing using this method. Instead of using butter, I will use ghee since it has the milk solids removed, extending shelf life. Maybe even gingerbread cookies, too. Simple ingredients that won't be be unstable over time. Suggestions?

@@TheAlfakitty Well, not baking in humid weather doesnt really work since I live in Hawaii, it’s ALWAYS humid here, lol. Because of the high humidity here whenever I store dry foods in mylar bags with oxygen absorbers I also insert a moisture absorber to get rid of any excess moisture that got in while I was packaging.

I also removed them from the packaging and they are in there “naked.” Worked as well. I don’t think folks appreciate how important crackers are going to be if all power goes out and ya live in the city, not on a homestead…how ya gonna bake bread? Some things I won’t be able to do. Crackers and tuna, deviled ham, spam, packaged chicken, and the old favorite PB & J. 😂 If folks smell you cooking, ya may make yourself a target.
