I’ve watched maybe 50 videos on this tent in both color schemes and you are only the 2nd person to show the attachment of the fly to the 2 cross poles (which greatly increases the stability of the tent in storm conditions!). This is definitely in the top 2 videos on this tent and quite possibly #1. Fantastic video!!

Thank you Vern! Your video was absolutely perfect, fun and to the point! I just purchased this tent and learned from watching you that I was connecting those black poles incorrectly! Thank you, Mr. Seward, for the amazing video. I was disappointed a reputable company like North Face had such lame instructions on setting up a tent. This is my first experience setting one up. Had it not been for your detailed explanation, I would've given in to frustration. Thanks for taking the time to film this. It is most helpful.

Vern, i just got back home some days from Spanish Pyrenees, South of France :-) Stayed over at several camp sites with the Stormbreak. At Spanish high mountains had some periods with heavy weather :-) Heavy wind, rain, hail, thunder all at the same time. Stormbreak performed pretty well during these periods of bad weather! Checked your vid once and i know when i`ve to put up the tent nxt year with stormy weather i choose your method (attaching the first 2 clamps and slide up) I didnt seem seal the seems, had no water inside with heavy rain. For nxt year i`ll seem seal all the seems. The thing i noticed is that there stays rain water on top of the tent but dont think thats going to be a problem when everthing is sealed. Another thing i enjoyed are the loops innertent where i put lines on so i could hang up all my stuff. At the outside tent i placed stormlines on all the loops, had to use these with pretty stormy weather. Though its possible to sleep with 2 persons i consider this tent as a one person, need to store my back packs too :-) For trekking i`ve got a little bivac tent, so i can leave the stormbreak at the campsite, anyways feel now comfortable enough to sell my Nordisk tent.

Hi, thanks for the kind words. I’m not experienced enough to say for certain if the Storm Break 2 is a good option for winter camping, especially if snow is involved, however, it is shelter. It has sizable vestibules on either side of both entrances, keeping gear out of the weather is certainly possible. It certainly sturdy enough and it has good weather shielding qualities. I’d guess if conditions aren’t extreme (blizzard or worse) it should keep you dry. Staying warm is another thing altogether. Hope that helps. If anyone else has some experience with this or similar tents in cold weather please feel free to chime in. Vern

Awesome video. Great details. I'm thinking of purchasing this tent or the Stormbreak 1 to use for backpacking and bikepacking. I like that you actually showed the space inside the tent with you in it. To me, that's a critical area, especially if you are a big and tall guy 6' tall or over. What is your opinion on it since you made this video a year ago? Thanks.
@vernseward5323
@vernseward5323 8 ай бұрын
Hi, I still enjoy the tent. I haven’t used it as much as I’d like, but when I have I found that it performs well. I think the interior would be adequate for a person up to maybe 6’2”. I’d also recommend using inflatable pads like the ThermaRest basecamp self inflating pad. Get two and get to rig that ties them together. They’ll cover almost the entire floor and is very comfortable. Set up your sleeping bag on the pad and you are good to go. I’m average height, around 5’10”. I can easily get another in the tent if needs be.

@vernseward5323
@vernseward5323 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Eric, Thanks for watching my little video and I’m glad it helped. The cords on the raid shield/fly is so you can tie it down more. If you think about it, those six stakes (1 on either end and 4 for the vestibules) really aren’t enough to keep your tent from blowing away in gusty weather. You may have to tie your tent to objects that are more secure than the stakes they give you. I’ve never had to use extra tie downs, but its nice to know them and not need them. Vern

Thank you! I’m considering the Stormbreak 3 for kayak camping. This helped me see it in action so to speak. I notice there are no vents on the rain fly, have you ever had trouble with it getting too stuffy inside or accumulating condensation for lack of ventilation? The fly doesn’t quite go to the ground-has that been an issue during rainy trips? Any stability concerns during windy conditions? So many questions! Lol. Thank you for the video!
@vernseward5323

Sorry for the slow reply. I've only used this tent in FL where there's always high humidity. I open the rain flaps on both sides and have a fan pushing air through. (I also use mosquito coils to keep the blood suckers at bay. I put the coils just inside the vestibule. Seems to work.) I've only had it in light rain, but that wasn't an issue. The sites where I've used the tent tend not to have a wind issue. Again, this is Florida and I camp among trees where it tends not to be very windy. That said, I would definitely opt for better stakes than the ones supplied. In the video I use stakes like the ones here : www.amazon.com/Tripmas-Ultralight-Titanium-Tent-Stakes/dp/B01CJAJPH2/ref=sr_1_79?crid=1QFPK22ASWNMV&keywords=tent+stakes&qid=1661503753&sprefix=%2Caps%2C84&sr=8-79 There are aluminum versions as well. These stakes will definitely worth the money. Easy to use and they hold great! Hope that answers your questions. Thanks for watching.

I have this tent and its great. But I still don't know what the cord on the sides of the rain fly or "rain shield" are for. In this video they are yellow and are not used either.

OH! Those are extra tie downs. You'd need them in places where the ground is sandy or loose and you have windy weather. Sorry. I should have mentioned that.

Hi Vern, how many stakes do you need for this tent? I noticed north face provides 10, but if you buy the orange ones it is only a pack 8
@vernseward5323
@vernseward5323 Жыл бұрын
Hi, You’re right, the does include 8. Depending on your situation, you’ll use all 8. I think Northface gives you 2 extra because you’re likely to lose them.

Great tutorial. Too bad it’s not this easy to get rolled up and put in the bag. Not too fond of rolling poles inside tent. They should have included a bag for them. Will be using it for the first time this weekend.

Glad you found it useful. This only the second tent I’ve used. I found it to be very easy to roll up and get in the bag. I don’t roll the tent around the poles, I slide those in after I get the tent in. Anyway, hope you enjoy your tent. Please take a look at my blog: GoGzr.com

I recently purchased this tent, but haven't used it yet. (I have set it up indoors) I am curious to know what you think about the colors, particularly the yellow mesh. I can't decide whether to exchange it for the other color which has the oak (yellow-orange) storm shield, which seems too bright. It seems that any color of mesh other than black, can distort the vision looking through it. Has that ever been an annoyance for you?
@vernseward5323
@vernseward5323 5 ай бұрын
Hi Marilyn, No, I can’t say that’s been something that has ever crossed my mind. But now that you’ve mentioned it, I’m thinking about advantages and disadvantages of mesh color. I’m sensitive to bugs and mosquitoes seek me out like a fat kid might a cupcake. Mosquitoes tend to hide/wait on darker surfaces and avoid lighter ones where they can more easily be seen. In this regard, I’d opt for the lighter mesh. However, I think this reasoning is rendered moot because I spray repellent on the mesh. (Note: don’t do that with DEET based repellents as they may harm tent fabrics. I use Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus. Very effective. ) As to vision distortion, I hadn’t noticed and I honestly don’t see much of a problem. So, it’s gonna be a personal choice.

My sleeping pad is 78” and I still have about 2-3” when I lay it out in the tent. So, yes, it should accommodate you.

Great instruction… Step-by-Step for tent as well as Footprint. I use this tent for motorcycle camping. Weight is’t an issue but I can see where a backpacker would like a lighter tent

Thanks. One step I can't get: at about the 7:35 you mention tying back the rain shield, but there's no apparent way to do that and your video doesn't show exactly what you're tying together. Other than that, top marks.

I just got my Storm break 2. Not nearly as nice as this one. The fly didn't have straps that would tighten. And because of that the fly was very, very, loose over the frame. Filed a complaint about it. Asking for a fix. I really like the design.

Es cierto que los colores más oscuros estarán más calientes bajo la luz solar directa. Si eso es una preocupación, siempre puedes suspender una lona sobre la tienda o simplemente encontrar un lugar sombreado.
