I never knew they had weights in them and wondered how they got the balls to curve on the lane like that. When I was kid a friend and I spent an hour breaking a bowling ball open with a sledgehammer. It had like a 3 inch thick plastic skin or whatever it was on the outside, surrounding a cement ball. We smashed it to dust! No weights or anything else. This was over 30 years ago so maybe the weights weren`t a thing yet. Or maybe just a cheap ball.

Years later a random bowler from a team told me that he was impressed i could bowl with the regular balls so well and told me i got a good hook with my shots and i didnt think much of it at the time but the more time goes on it just makes me laugh of that moment.

I noticed some misleading information here...While a round block (you will most likely know it for its real name, round core) is for beginners , proffesionals DO USE such type of ball for their second shot; for example, when you have to knock a pin which has another one behind a "hooking" ball will move out of the way when it strikes the first one, while the round core ball will strike them both with no problem, that is if you do it right of course :)

The 10% of your body weight rule applies more to kids if anything. As an adult, I'd say a better rule of thumb is to go by hand size/strength. Small hands/weaker forearm? Stick to 12-13 pounds. Average, 13-15, etc. Though keep in mind, bowling ball manufacturers optimize performance toward 15 pound equipment, and 14 pounds at minimum, otherwise they use a different weight block which will sacrifice performance.
@nataleeisjustchilling27372 жыл бұрын
Yeah I have small hands and a weaker forearm so I use a 12 pounder, my dad uses a 15 not a 16 anymore because nowadays they make it so 14, 15, and 16 pound balls deflect the same
@chrissekely6 жыл бұрын
Why do the cores need smoothed/deburred before they are coated? Surely, such insignificant weight deviations wouldn't make a,y real difference.
@monkeycircus5096 жыл бұрын
you would be surprised- they have to manufacture these to very tight tolerances to meet the USBC standards. It would be a lot easier to make sure quality control standards when you know your weight blocks are uniform.

To say that symmetric balls don't hook much is "completely wrong". Guy has no idea of what's he's talking about.
