Storm In The MCU is going to be incredible. Ororo Munroe aka Storm and The rest of the Uncanny X-Men are coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) soon and I can't wait. I was one of Fox Studios biggest critics of their casting and artistic choices of how they used the Mutant Universe. So Storm in the MCU is a godesend and we can speculate about casting now. I am starting with the weather witch, Ororo Munroe aka Storm first. Because #1 its Black History month when I made this video and #2 She was one of the worst cast characters in my opinion.

BEYONCE' IS NOT GOING TO PLAY STORM IN BLACK PANTHER 2! and Janelle Monae is Too Short at 5"0 eve, and Angela Basset Storm was a missed opportunity back in 2000. So kill these rumors. When we get Storm In The MCU it won't be either of these women. I love them all but they will not be Ororo Monroe.
I do dive into the controversy of why this iconic character that was depicted as being a dark skin Black woman was not once but TWICE played by a bi-racial light skin woman in live action movies! I believe my comments will provocative and may spark a reaction from some but I stand by statements 100% with no backing down. So take a look at what I do in this video! No offense to Halle Berry and Alexandra Shipp. I wish them well but both are bi-racial mixed women that had no business playing this character in the first place!

HISTORICAL OVERVIEW
I break down how lighter skinned Black actress got more breaks in Hollywood history while the darker skinned ones were marginalized and why this history is so important on how Storm WAS not properly cast the first two attempts and how to fix it.
ACTRESS REQUIREMENTS
I think the Next Storm for the MCU debut should be a
1. Black female who is tall (over 5"7)
(The comic book version of the character stands 5"10)
2. Light brown or darker
(She was played by bi-racial light skin women in the first two attempts which does not match the character and I go into a rant in the video about "colorism" possible being the reason. You decide.
3. Between 27 and 33 years old
Not too old where the actress would age out of the character too quickly in a 8 picture 10 year deal. If you pick someone 40 she would be 50 at the end of the run. but Not young either because she needs to cross over with Black Panther and the actor who plays him is 40 years old as of 2020.
4. Some acting experience.
Its a big role. You need a experienced dramatic actress that knows what shes doing
5. No One Over Exposed.
They are NOT going to hire some pop star like Beyoncé to play the role so stop the madness on that.

- I wrongly stated that Sonequa martin-green was the first Black Female captain in the Star Trek Universe Actually. She's the first Black Female LEAD character in Star Trek history.

- I said Halle Berry didn't even try an African accent. I meant to say "She did a weak attempt in the first film and just went with her regular speaking voice in future films so if she quit so easy she really didn't even try.

It's because of evolution in very hot areas. The skin mutated to protect itself from the sun. And this is why most black people don't "crack".

Eventually. I wanted to concentrate on "fixing" the characters that Fox butchered the worst, first. The casting on Wolverine of Hugh Jackman was absolutely epic. The two that played Cyclops were solid. They werent horrible like Storm was and some others. Thanks for watching.

A Nigerian Actress with Gorgeous Brown Skin, 5'7", 125lbs, 35(But plays much younger), Great Athletic build and already has the accent for the role(No Fakes needed). She was a born ringer. How did you miss her totally. She is better than everyone but 2 on your list(honorable mention included) and the 2 are just her without the accent. Come on be fair😂

@Osman Yousif I didnt see Queen and Slim until after I made the video. If I had I probably would have had her in my Top 10. I was impressed at her performance and at a tall 5"9, Chocolate and lovely shes a good psychical fit for the character and at 33. Still not to old for the role... In saying that Kiki Layne is my #1 so that's all that matters.

This video essay is incredibly strong. I appreciate the contextual set up in the first half of the video. It should be useful for those who are unfamiliar with colorism or why many of us were unsatisfied with Storm’s casting to date. I hope Kevin Feige and the higher-ups at Marvel end up watching it.

Thank you. I am glad that my analysis on colorism didn't lose people before I got to the actual list. I thought it was important to explain why having a darker Storm is so important. I think the Disney bosses are aware of colorism. When the first Wreck it Ralph 2 trailer came out and they showed all the Disney Princesses and Tiana was so light the internet had a fit... Disney was on point and made her much closer to the original film. So hopefully they are aware of this sensitive issue with casting Storm. Thanks for watching.

Hollywood is afraid of casting black actresses... Who actually look like the characters are supposed to portrayed. Storm is Ororo Munroe, a dark- brown skinned woman, Kenya with mutant powers.... why not get a African woman with brown skinned to portray her? I didn't see the movie but there was supposed to be a biography film of the life of Nina Simone dot-dot-dot he was portrayed By Zoe Saldana oh, he's a very beautiful light skinned woman from the Dominican Republic. They literally literally put dark black face makeup I'm Zoe Saldana so she could physically look like Nina Simone, who is very dark-skinned. Why do you need to put black face on a black actress? you don't need to put black face on anybody. This isn't like putting Brown makeup on Richard Burton so he can be a fictional Black character like Othello.... Hollywood is so afraid of dark skinned actresses that they will actually put black makeup on a light skinned black women rather than just cast a dark skinned black woman..... Why CANT storm b portrayed by a dark skinned actress...? I think Storm should b cast with an unknown African actress from the Continent. Lupita Nyong'o got her start playing a slave girl in the film 12 years a Slave.... now it's to your 20/20 in the movie industry is now catching up to the fact that maybe black people shouldn't just be cast in movies either about slavery, the Civil War, the Civil Rights Movement, or being the black character that gets killed off in the middle of a horror movie. this is how storm first appeared in giant size X-Men number 1 1976. At all young black women Conjuring a rainstorm somewhere in a plaintiff Kenya wearing a tribal dress. As some other secondary mutation, she had deep blue eyes and long flowing white hair that covered her upper body discreetly because she was topless when she first met Professor X.... and before anyone starts an argument, yes there are still many tribal customs in African nations where the women are traditionally topless. At the request of a nearby tribe, Storm uses her mutant powers to conjure up a thundershower in the middle of a drought , Afterwards, she flies up into the air as she commands the winds to lift her up. I want an actress who can do that character, in that scene, right from day one. Sometimes it takes an unknown actor to bring something fresh to a difficult role. Christopher Reeve was a complete unknown before he took the role of Superman. and his portrayal of the Man of Steel is still considered to be the best one yet 40 years after the first Superman movie came out. I am a light-skinned black man and I would love to see a dark-skinned African actress portray A lead superheroine ... not just a superhero's girlfriend or sidekick.

Anna Diop hits 5 out of 5 of your criteria. 1. Dark skinned--Senegalese, 2. 5'8", 3. Plays Starfire on Titans, 4. I don't think she is over exposed, but this is the most subjective criterion, 5. 32 years old. I had to lay out the criteria because you included many women who hit just 3 or 4 out of 5, but this ebony goddess didn't even get an honorable mention?! I would be really upset if your video wasn't so full of excellence. I loved the historical background and laying out criteria. I'm definitely going to check out your channel. you are right she hits those 5 points. I am aware of her work in 24 Legacy, Greenleaf and of course in Titans. I didn't mention her because I don't think shes a lead actress. I think she works better as a supporting actress and Storm would definitely be a lead. But that's my opinion. If they cast Ms. Doip I wouldn't be mad about it. I would only throw a brick through Marvels window if they chose another short light skin biracial woman again. Thanks for watching!

@@ComicPower Fair enough. I guess I differ a little on the lead thing. These superhero teams are ensembles. Who is the lead in the Avengers? Some might say Tony Stark or Captain America, but I think that is mistaken. The Wailers started out as an ensemble: Peter, Bob, and Bunny Wailer, but then white folks repackaged them as Bob Marley and the Wailers. In an ensemble members may take turns playing the lead, but the main job is supporting each other. That said, I'm kinda disappointed in the Titans. I'm hoping the future season will explore more of Starfire and her sister... So there will be more of a chance to see what Anna Diop can do.

She absolutely would and could have done justice for Storm. Definitely better than what Halle and Alexandra did for the character. I think she would have pushed to get the Storm character in the forefront of the plot more as well. The character appeared in 6 different movies by 2 different actresses and just got pushed to the background when she was the teams Field commander. No origin story in flashbacks or NOTHING. what a disappointment. Hopefully the MCU reboot will fix that too. Thanks for posting!

I agree. Shes been treated as a background character in the Fox movies. Her back story as a literal Goddess of the weather in her mother's home country of Kenya is appealing cinema and they didnt even try to tell that story and we were robbed. Hopefully the MCU reboot will get it right and put this character in the fore front.

I don't know if you researched the backstory behind FOX's X-Men casting, but they've been quoted as saying as saying they didn't get Storm's appeal, and Halle Berry had to fight for even the little bit of visibility that Storm did get in those movies. They have to know and respect these characters to get them right.

The tall, statuesque Somali supermodel Iman (and David Bowie's wife) would've been the best choice for Ororo in the late 1980s & 1990s. She's a genuinely great actress & had experience in sci-fi, having killed it as a sexy, cigar-smoking alien in Star Trek VI.

Iman is a gorgeous woman. Well educated and well rounded and one of the better model turned actresses. She is more than just the late David Bowies wife. She is much more. But when the Xmen started in 2000 she just turned 45 years old and too old for the role unfortunately. Thanks for posting.

I'm a nerd with an extensive knowledge on pop culture like comics and African American culture as well. After seeing Rob from Comics Explained channel, it inspired me to do my own channel. For my niche I did a new comic day report every Wednesday but the number of subs I got was very limited and my material became dated within a week of making them so I retooled and made the channel more about the movies and other media inspired by the comics. I couldn't agree with you more! I've wanted Angela Basset to play Storm for years. I always thought that she looked the part, and is fierce enough to become her. Look at how she looked in Black Panther, Storm sported the same 'do in Extreme X-men.

I wish they could have cast Keith David (the voice of Spawn animated and Bishop Greenleaf from the TV show) but hes too old to play it now..(hes 64) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keith_David I would go with Derek Luke. Jodie Turner-Smith is also a phenomenal choice. For a new actress, she crushed her performance in Queen & Slim. She has such a regalness to her and in her stature. Whole time I was watching to film, I just kept thinking of Storm. She's also a model so the height is there. Great video!

Thanks for watching. I made this video back in February 2020 when most people didn't know who Kiki Layne was yet. But after her performances in the HBO movie Native Son and the oscar winning If Beale Street could Talk and her measurables of 28 and 5"9 and great looks I was confident that this is Storm. Hopefully Marvel is paying attention and blesses here with this gig and then we all will win.

Those things like height and etc. kinda matter at first, but if the right actress has the skill & talent & the ability to draw u in, that is what will make me feel that she is Storm. And that is what I really want; an actress who can pull me in & make me forget any preconceived ideas of who could & could not play Storm.

Anok is absolutely stunning! I was sold on her until you got to #1 Ki KI Layne. Storm is THE reason I got into reading & collecting X-Men comic books in the 90s. Ki Ki was already in my top 2-3 picks, but after seeing this video, I am now 100% convinced: Ki Ki *IS* our new MCU Storm. She has the look, height, acting skills, that unassuming regal and commanding air (19:43--THAT is Storm!) , balanced with warmth of spirit and intellect. These qualities, in their totality, I think puts her over the top to play this iconic Marvel character. 28 is a perfect starting age for the X-men franchise reboot. Layne has what it takes to bring this character to life and give her the dimension that was missing (among many other things) from the Fox movie versions of the character. Kevin Feige, look no further: You have found your Storm. You know it and I know it. The guy who made this video knows it. So just hire her already. Team Ki Ki all the way!

Thank you Lee for watching and your enthusiasm about the material. We all love these characters especially Storm and hopefully with this reboot Marvel will get it right. Disney is the parent company and they have proven they have proven they are aware of sensitive issues like colorism. So I expect for them to give us a Storm that is taller and darker instead of the lighter and shorter versions we got before. Hopefully it will be Kiki. Her next project in the comic book adaptation of The Old Guard comes out in July on Netflix. Cant wait.

@@ComicPower Finally saw 'The Old Guard". Yeah, she can definitely be Storm. Not as tall or as dark but action wise she can pull it off. By the way, I don't feel it's colorism to want the character to look the way she's drawn. You can have actresses of all shades play her and if they commit it'll work but sure, we all wanted a Wolverine that matched the comic book but Hugh Jackman is like 6ft. It's just wanting it to match the original creation. Nothing wrong with that. We'll still love them if they put their hearts in to it. Hugh killed the role.

The Shotgun Mary character is played by Toya Taylor. The Warrior Nun project literally dropped July 2020 and I made this video in Feb 2020 and Ms Taylor was not anywhere near the radar. So yes Jodie Turner Smith would have most likely been in my top 10 if i had seen it but Kiki Layne is and will always be my #1 so thats all that matters at the end of the day.

Professor travels to Kenya to recruit her and her tribe literally worships her as a Goddess of the Weather. Can you imagine how awesome that scene would be? And Fox never even tried to show her back story. I think in the MCU they will get it right.

Comic Power you’re welcome. I think Storm was one of the few mutants around in the MCU but my theory is that Thanos’ & the Hulk’s snap awaken the mutant gene in people with it. Think about it, the Mind stone awakened Wanda’s powers, in theory it could do that with other people too. Iman is a real beauty and better actress then most other former models. Unfortunately she was 45 years old in the year 2000 when the Xmen movie franchise started. So that may have been the main reason. The character wasn't supposed to be that old. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for watching. I've heard several conflicting stories. One says she offered the part but they low balled her on the money One says she turned it down over a weak script and or very insignificant part. ( Storm was definitely pushed to the background which was wrong) And another story was that the creative team wanted her but the studio over ruled it for a bankable and younger actress. Halle was 34 and Angela was 42 at the time So I haven't heard anything that confirms which is true but we got robbed.

I've already heard the phrase "scheduling conflict" was a code word of legally getting out of something when something better comes along. LOL. That is my gut that she thinks she has a shot at something bigger in the MCU as a lead superhero, over a character who is locked into a non powered 1990s timeline.
