Cool having Alex on the show. Darren Tang calls him the "Ball Wizard". I use a general layout for most of my pieces, pin over bridge. My bag differs with cover and core. The only ball that is "different" for me is my strong assym solid that I have drilled pin down. Strong core/cover for the top of the bag and weaker core/cover for the bottom of the bag. I am old school, so I can adjust my speed/revs/release to give the lanes what it is looking for to get the ball to enter the pocket at the right angle to carry through the pins. The constant figuring out is what makes bowling both fun and frustrating at the same time.

Yes, they do. Even though the balance holes are not required anymore the CG does have to be near your grip on the ball.
@Slimzyjoe

Unequivocally false. With the 3oz rule the CG can be all over the map without throwing the statics out of whack - and Alex explains why the statics and the 3oz rule do matter in todays game.

Surface, coverstock, core and then layout, in that order. You can't drill another ball every time the conditions change.

Static weight is that more effective for the lower ball speed players. Because I can see the higher speed player not having the effect just like if you get a little speed it goes through your break point?

I just need a good pro shop guy that knows how to match someone up, put the right ball in the person's hands with a layout that compliments how they roll the ball. A lot of times I have come across an alleged pro shop person that just doesn't know how to do that and to make things worse they don't even care. I feel like there are a lot of guys just going through the motions, I was referred to a guy that allegedly has 35 years of experience and so went to see him and have a ball drilled from him and this person did watch me throw about 4 or 5 shots and then went into his pro shop and came back out with my ball already drilled with no discussion about what layout would be, and how did he manage to lay it out without even knowing my pap or any of my other statistics (tilt, rotation,speed,rev rate) it was kind of a joke, I mean I thought I was seeing a guy that was super experienced and trusted that he knew how to match a person up and when I asked him if we could figure out my stats he got a little angry about that and told me we didn't need to do all that. I was sadly disappointed. I doubt he even knew how to get a person's stats. Where can I find a serious pro shop guy? I don't care how far I have to travel if they know their stuff I want to work with them.

In some cases dying at the pro or local competitive tournament level. If there are twice as many centers 20 years from now and most have string pins, then bowling as we know it today will have died like duck pins did long ago. 💯

I find this whole layout discussion kind of silly. Yes, different layouts only affect the ball motion little, but... Small changes can have big results. A small difference can be the difference between striking or leaving the 10. And this matters not only for the top professional bowler, but for all bowlers. Will a different layout suddenly increase your average by 20? Probably not. But can making a ball change where you change the ball you're throwing for the same ball with a different layout be the difference between loosing or winning a game? Yes, sometimes it can.
@VirtueBowlingSupply

You're right. It's just like Nascar. The cars have to meet similar specs but the fine tuning of tires or steering or spoilers etc makes the difference between winning or 30th place.

@@VirtueBowlingSupply 6" pins typically have more motion on the backend?
@VirtueBowlingSupply
@VirtueBowlingSupply Ай бұрын
Our understanding would be defining layout strength in terms of the amount of flare created by the layout and not backend motion. As flare is the same regardless of lane conditions. Backend motion can vary immensely with the same layout due to oil conditions.

I follow JR on KZfaq and I believe I have watched every one of his videos on layouts. Most people turned their brains off as soon as they read the title to his series of videos on the subject. The only thing they heard is" "layouts don't matter". Unless you invite JR on your channel and ask him the same questions then you haven't even begun to be open minded and unbias on this topic. But then, maybe you're not trying to be. Maybe you intended to do a "hit" piece.

@@bowlingxp8345and the storm guys job is to sell bowling balls. He can’t agree with me. His job is to sell balls. Same with mo pinel. They would be worried that people would buy less bowling balls if they actually knew how little the core position affects motion for the average bowler. But again I’ve never said they don’t matter at all. I say they are the least of your worries unless you’re a top tier player.
