Storm Thorgerson on Rene Magritte | TateShots

13 жыл бұрынStorm Thorgerson designed the cover for Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side of the Moon', an album that can be found in the homes of over 40 million people. In a career spanning over 30 years he has produced album graphics for numerous acts.
Many of his designs are notable for their surrealism, and in his early work he often took inspiration from the paintings of Rene Magritte. To celebrate the opening of Tate Liverpool's Magritte exhibition, we asked Thorgerson what it is about Magritte that hooked him.

I don't agree with everything he said about Magritte but I quite like his description of his artworks : "You know what it is but don't why it is." - Memorable image maker ♥

Magritte was about technique. Designing digital art and photography has little to with painting. It was not just an idea but his way of painting it.

I love his work but I absolutely hate the postmodern mentality of being non-intentional as an artist: it's really easy to make something mysterious and then saying "I don't know what it means, you decide. I'm just an interpreter, you're the viewer"

Of course he liked Magritte. He calls it "oddity" here but today they might say "Chaotic" or "queer" to describe that neurotype. :)
