I know it seems nitpicky, but it would be so much better if it stayed to the source material and had everyone be asian in appearance save for hoid and Szeth. it really makes them stand out as characters and lets you know that there's something diffrent about them.

I've been getting a lot of comments about this one particular detail, to the point of people getting upset and accusing me of whitewashing. So I'll address this once and once only: My reference for the physical attributes of the Alethi comes from the official, published artwork present in Words of Radiance. brandonsanderson.com/books/the-stormlight-archive/words-of-radiance/words-of-radiance-art-gallery/ The art piece is about 10 pictures down. It was my interpretation that the Alethi model has an epicanthic fold, ie what most people refer to as 'western' eyes. It was brought to my attention after releasing this animation that Brandon mentioned in an interview that Kaladin, therefore the Alethis are an "Asian-Middle Eastern mix". www.jotdown.es/2016/12/brandon-sanderson-i-want-to-show-in-my-writing-that-there-is-something-inherently-good-inside-human-beings/ If I had know this detail prior to modeling Adolin's face, I would have adhered to the canon. However, as it stands, I can't go back in time and change things.

they are not "Asian," they're Alethi. Yes they tend to have epicanthic folds but from the way they are described in the books they would come across mix raced to us, maybe someone like Keanu Reeves, but more tan. Adolin is blond, to me, anyone with hooded eyes and tanned skin with blond hair would do.

I'd rather see the Stormlight Archives done as a miniseries, like Game of Thrones. That way they could do justice to the story. A movie isn't long enough to develop some of the core ideas and characters. With a miniseries they could do one session per book and end each season with an incredible finale.

While I'm definitely excited to see a movie, I do think the only way to faithfully capture this book is with an animated TV series. A movie couldn't be long enough or detailed enough to capture all of the world building, and there's no studio on earth with a big enough CGI budget to do a live-action series. I think an animated series (done with Korra-style animation) could be amazing.

I’d prefer to see it as a series, as a movie would have to be condensed into two hours or there about per book/ half book. A lot of info and scenes would be scrapped, but a series could run a few chapters an episode

That was actually Ben McSweeney's Idea! Ben is the one who did a lot of the art in the books that depicted 'Shallan's Sketchbook', though he is also an amazing animator. Originally, Dalinar was just deflecting the wheel. I sent him that shot asking for any advice, and he had the idea for the wheel to be split in half! That's what I love about making movies, it's such a collaborative process where artistic ideas can build on one another.

First off, love this, I've actually watched it like 6 times, lol Secondly, if you do any more edits to this (I watched the documentary, I know how complex that is, so if it doesn't happen I understand), I have two recommendations. One is to give Sadeas an arrow when he looks at Dalinar in surprise. If he has one there, I didn't see it, looks like he is just about to dry fire his bow, lol. The other is to make Adolin cutting off the legs a little longer, it's kind of anti climatic that he cuts one leg, then looks up and expects it to fall, have him cut a few more. I guess one more would be to have the chasmfiend move around crippled, rather than just fall over dead. As far as the animations, direction, and artwork go, WOW, I'm so impressed, good luck to you in your professional career, I'd love to see more of your work!!
@_Stormfather
@_Stormfather 5 жыл бұрын
Well to be fair, what it doesn't show is that they've already cut through a bunch of legs already. That was just the last one that was needed. But yes, out of context it does seem a bit jarring
@joshuaknight6551
@joshuaknight6551 5 жыл бұрын
Valid points both! Storm light leaking as mist in addition to the light. I haven't seen the docu so not sure what the engine/rendering system they use is. It's either a very easy addition or stupid difficult depending (since different ones Excel different places. Something like unreal engine could add it in a heartbeat) Maybe changing the chasmfiends color would work for the legs. Like giving it a grey or necrotic color where it has been cut off. Letting you know that portion of limb(s) is dead without having to extend the video greatly I'm at bit if impass on the cut itself. I know they just go through without a mark. But once moved to a visual medium we might want something added in so you can tell contact is made. Again a bit of storm light mist? Maybe coming from 'inside' like it burned it out? Although leaving it as is also makes it bit confusing for the viewer which adds it's own effect 🤔

Incredible!!! I've always imagined shard bows shafts are unthinkabley fast and crack the air with a sonic boom when they're fired. I imagine the whole screen going black and just seeing a straight blue streak pierce whatever it's being fired at.

Alex dijo que estaba cutre pero la verdad la veo bastante decente y como que ayuda a visualizar un poco el paisaje (igualmente me imagino las armaduras de otra forma)

I honestly think an anime adaption would be perfect for the stormlight archive - anime is great in capturing desperation and fun equally and that’s what this book is about Having battle scenes with supernatural powers is perfect for anime, Kaladin as the super serious character, shallan as the serious and fun charakter, always hearing her thoughts - the relationship between the two would be gold in an anime adaption

I've thought that about a lot of Sanderson's works. I honestly think Hollywood /actors wouldn't do these worlds and characters justice

@@TheHigherFury I think it depends on the budget, but some parts about the world are so dark it think hollywood wouldn't want to capture it like in the books - so yeah: anime perfect solution

It certainly has the production quality of what you would see in a student film and that is not at all a bad thing, just what I expected. The part that stood out to me the most is the most important. I feel like you really captured the essence of the scene where Dalinar catches the Chasmfiend's leg to save Elhokar quite masterfully. In that moment, it matched what I had imagined the scene to look like in my head and that was very satisfying to experience.

I usually am not a big fan of 3D animation, especially fan made, because it often looks weird and creepy, but honestly this is SO good!! For a fan made video it captures the feel of the moment amazingly well! I am honestly very impressed! Good job and I would love to see more like this!

Wow, Well done sir, well done... It was only 3 minutes long but there is so many amazing scenes. my favorite is Dalinars superhuman dash to the chasm fiend, and Saddeas's Aww as its happening. Thank you.

Found this from the 17th Shard forums. Amazing work! I got the same Thrill(heh) watching this as I got reading it. Great animation and audio design! Nice textures, too. I'd be interested in seeing what your modellers could do with the chasms.

Love the video! Always a treat so see Brandon Sanderson stuff on screen. Joining in with all the other comments, I'd love to see the hallway fight against Szeth or the disadvantaged Adolin duel. If anyone knows where I could find those that'd be awesome

Not the best animated film I've ever seen, (I don't know what I was expecting) but that was the best version of the scene I could have imagined, let alone made. Fantastic job! Keep doing what you're doing and never stop!
