I get the theory, but how can you tell when something is overcompensating and not simply acting too fast? I've read about PIDs up and down and several methods people use for them, but nailing one down is impossible for me. Would appreciate a video where you actually tune one to identify the behaviors to correct.

wow i'm so dumb, i have a boat that requires Fins to Stabilize so it doesn't flip when turning, but the fins controlled manually when going right would output -1 and left positive 1, which would make right turns flip faster while left turns hold the desired result. So i was boggled by this and made my own controller that turned all negative and positive inputs into 1 so the fins would only use a positive 1 and go up stabilizing the boat.. it took me hours to make that controller and u tellin me a PiD just do that (/-o).. i knew it there had to be something but i couldn't find it, but now this makes much more sense and now i'm going to delete that system and myself. Thank u sir ;-;

I understand which of the values do what, but if I put a positive number into it would that make the system react faster or slower?

is there a logic that can be used as kinda like a ratio, for example could i have a logic that made it so when i held w, it would have a ratio to put the throttle up and the brakes down and vise versa
