There are 2 moments in this video that had me going: 1. Was when Callum says to the guys "try a vert jump" (8:06) and they all suddenly realise that they're stuck then Callum just laughs knowing he's just caused panic. 2. And when Benj starts to go back and forth and they all join in (9:30), Max and Drew just suddenly switch to the oh shit mode and start shouting get me out haha. Wont lie that was tense but hype to watch, stay safe gents.

Staying calm is why Callum was able to get out by himself, the non-newtonian nature of quicksand means if you panic and use alot of force it turns rock solid and holds you, but if you use slow gentle movements you can get out. Its the same reason why you could jump on it and it was solid, but if you stand in it you slowly sink.
@lambs62
@lambs62 2 жыл бұрын
That doesn’t make sense because if it’s solid you could push yourself out and you would just sink by doing slow movements

Contrary to popular belief it's actually very difficult to impossible to be completely submerged in quick sand. Most will stop at the waist to stomach area and will just stay there. Not to say it isn't terrifying and dangerous if no one is around to help you if you can't get yourself out but you'll be fine if you don't panic.

He went for help but she didn’t get out in time and the tide came up and drowned her! People were w/ her still trying to get her out as her head finally went under the water. In certain types of quick sand, the only way to get out is w/ special equipment “not ropes”! Similar to grain silo rescue tubes.

Legitimately hilarious. From dubbing Callums hair and filming his bare arse, to the exploratory toes in and then going full crazy and sinking waist deep. Him extracting himself the correct way, without panicking shows that although he's often flippant and daft, he's got a strong mind and big brass balls! Brilliantly entertaining video, something interesting when half the crew can't pull out bangers because of injury. It was so funny watching you all panic and barely make it with the ropes and each others assistance, only for Callum to chill in the quicksand for ages and then solo himself out so calmly, with a murderous cramp to boot. Amazing work lads. Keep getting better Toby, hope to see you back in business soon. Some Josh bravery on display too, given his dislike of water it takes some balls to get stuck in quicksand!

Love the videos, Gents. For what it's worth, a few years ago, I came a step or two away from (maybe) dying in mud. Was tossing a frisbee with a buddy close to a stream. The stream was coming from a nearby forest and had created a muddy/marshy area before feeding into a lake. Went to retrieve the frisbee that landed in the stream. I had to downclimb about 6ft to get to this area, so I was beyond eyesight of my buddy. Took a step towards the frisbee and sunk into the mud up to about mid-quadricep-muscle depth. Was sorta stuck at that point. Saw an ~8ft long fallen branch within reach. Grabbed it and planted it into the mud infront of me in order to give myself better leverage to get out. The tree branch sunk down into the mud at least 6ft with almost no resistance. Terrifying. Had I stepped in a foot further, I think I would likely have disappeared immediately and I think that would have been the end of me. It took me the better part of about 5 minutes to get my one leg out of the mud, slowly and repeatedly shifting it back and forth and side to side. Lost a running shoe to the sunction of the mud - no chance of retrieving it. Anyway, just thought I'd share that here. Seems relevant.

Yeah, quicksand, deep mud, and peat bogs. The trifecta of insanely dangerous semi-liquids. I'm the only one of the people I know to have ever experienced quicksand in the wild and in reality, which is crazy considering I'm by no means an outdoorsy person. Unlucky, I guess.

Man, Josh is half liquid lol. The gaps he pours himself through would be physically impossible for me, just because my ribcage is too deep. I did a bit of potholing when I was a kid and a little less bulky across the shoulders and ribs, and Josh would absolutely slay a potholing challenge! I don't think Drew would much like it though lol.

I came off my skateboard doing close to 30mph down a hill and wrecked myself good, so I won't be squeezing through any gaps any time soon! Even squeezing past people to get off the bus is agony right now lol. I'll just live vicariously through the Storror crew for a few weeks ;D

@@Si74l0rd For me it was my school deciding to do away with P.E. and devote more time to being sat in a classroom, meaning I lost my main avenue of exercise. Outside of school I didn't have time for it, had homework to do then had social stuff to keep up with, so I didn't have time to go out for runs or stuff like that, which meant I never got into the habit of doing such, which led to today, a stomach slowly getting bigger and desires to get fitter, but not the motivation for it. Yay for laziness! xD

I love how they are scared of quicksand but they do all the crazy jumps and moves that I would never have the balls to do. I got stuck in quicksand loads of times and it's really not as dangerous as people think, you can't really drown in it. And to get out the best thing to do is stay calm, go horizontal and slowly crawl/swim your way out, it can take a while but you will be fine. The only real danger would be dehydration if the sun is burning down on you on a hot summer day.
@toomanyopinions8353

I mean, I can imagine it being dangerous if you don't know what to do. Considering you sink, if you panicked and end up sinking to the point that it got up to your neck you would be essentially immobilized.

Way to “stick” with it, Callum! It’s so cool to see you all taking challenges in more natural environments. Never encountered quicksand myself, but Tom Brown the tracker says to break the suction around a leg with your hands, which is what Callum did by rocking back and forth.
