The band features Vangelis Papathanassiou, Demis Roussos, Loukas Sideras, and Silver Koulouris.
Vangelis is famous for his movie soundtracks like "Blade Runner" and "Chariots of Fire" as well as his new wave duo with Jon Anderson from Yes. Demis Roussos was the lead singer of this band, and he went on to record over 40 solo albums as a pop artist. I regret not having this video to shine on him a little more.

Vangelis died about a month ago and that news sent me looking for his music. I only had the first album and remember having to take it back TWICE because of all the skips. I agree. And you were indeed lucky. Someone asked recently why I didn't mention "The Four Horsemen" in my video and I understand why they'd say that and somewhat had some regrets about not specifically mentioning it, but I see "666" more like one piece of art and individual tracks are like chapters to me and I encourage anyone who hasn't heard the album to listen from beginning to end. I found this album at Silver Platters in the late 80s, and of course immediately snatched it. Driving home, I popped it into the car's cassette player, and was was immediately struck with a big mental "??????????", because this was NOT the Vangelis I was familiar with, obviously! But as I listened, there was just so much to love in those songs. Some of them I still can't get my mind around, ("I was... I am... I am to come I was....") lol, but that album is one of my favorites. Especially because a beloved friend of mine, Jess, loved all the blues rock guitar in it, and the song Break. Now, Jess is no longer with us, and whenever I hear that music I think of him and how he taught me about music.

There's really only one song that Aphrodite's Child did that stands out as being entirely transformational and that's The Four Horsemen from their 666 album. This is the kind of song that once you have heard it, you are forever changed because of it. This song is on a level that few bands ever even come close to achieving. The only song that would be on par with it that comes to mind is Funkadelic's Maggot Brain. These are without question two of the greatest songs ever recorded. Listen to one and then the other and you'll immediately know how special they both are. The only other song that I can think of that can even come close to them (that most people would know) is Jimmy Hendrix's All Along the Watchtower. If anyone knows of any other songs that reach that same otherworldly, transformational level, please let me know.

Thanks! discovered some cool music here! I'm Greek but despite that I had never heard of them (well, I knew they existed, but had never heard any song of them)... I feel that Socrates has overshadowed all the other bands from that era in Greece (at least for my generation, the ones born before mid-80s probably know them well). P.S. I thought that 666 would be a more esoteric/difficult to listen to album from your description... but it's actually pretty approachable... great album, beginning to end... very atmospheric in parts
