Sky News host Paul Murray says “the story of Australia” right now is how Australians are doing it tough amid the cost-of-living crisis.
“Now I do get emails from time to time saying, 'Paul, why do you always start the show with something about cost-of-living',” Mr Murray said.
“Well, the answer is because every poll has told us - the number one issue in the country was cost-of-living, and is cost-of-living.
“We’ve tried to find lots of different ways to tell the story of Australia right now.
“Australians are doing it tougher than they have done probably in the best part of a generation but for some people, it’s the toughest in their lives.”

Prices never come down. Once people get used to paying a higher price, the only relief is that prices don't go up for awhile. Then they do.

The costs of living has gone up all over the world. Recently I spent some weeks in Europe and people there are complaining as well. It's also interest rates, energy costs etc that have gone up worldwide. Australia is part of an ever shrinking world, we are not immune to problems that are "just" elsewhere.

I’ll translate on Paul’s behalf: “We drill down” = we cherry pick our examples “This government has gone out of its way to make it harder to run a business” = Wages have gone up and we hate that “Welfare is 36% of the budget” = The wealth gap is getting worse, but we’d give less to the battlers if we could “I try to give you the detail” = I give you the examples that prove my points, and ignore the rest “We are paying more for insurance” = Climate change induced extreme weather events have nothing to do with this, and this too is Albo’s fault for a reason I can’t think of “The opposition was trying to deliver the picture of the real world” = Dutton is spending time blaming Labor for inflation that has impacted every country in the world post COVID, and has conveniently forgotten his “team” had the reins when the interest rates and electricity prices started rising “[mortgages are] way higher than what it was before they became the government” = interest rates were historically low due to fear of economic crash during COVID, but I’ll cherry pick that part out to fit my example “it’s the Dunkley by-election” = we need a reason to say he did this other than the government actually cares “the planned tax cut for that person is just $14.07 dollars a week” = The change to stage 3 tax has given this person over $730 a year, which should have gone to the top end of town, including me, Paul Murray This guy is hilarious lol

Labor hasn't made cost of living they actually made it worse If you actually calculate it out for the extra $15 a week you get with these tax cuts works out to be $780 a year and if you break that down to a budget for 5 things you need to live you have $3 for each things Max But here is the things nearly everything has gone up minimum of $4 and will go up more next year to paid for the $15 you will get back at tax time this year so in the long run you are worse off than you were now Labor saves money by producing its own manure problems is they also want everyone to think it chocolate and ask for more

so I agree with almost everything Paul has said here. But I don't quite understand why exise on booze is such a big deal. The real problem lies in fuel exise and green energy costs especially in the subsidies that come from our taxes. Funding activist groups that work to undermine our social well-being and land councils that do nothing apart from lining the pockets of a handful of indigenous elites. Booze tax, is a non starter when there's so much other waste that impacts our individual costs, things that we do not have the option of not buying, like booze for example.

Tell that to the shiploads of chronic alcoholics living here. Even in the well to do areas. In my area they break in and steal it from each other and will fight for it too. They are drug addicts and go thru terrible agonizing withdrawals without it. They sadly, generally have no options, other than cold turkey or the next fix.
