Saw John many cherished times. In 03 I saw him play Scar tissue on the white falcon. I’ll never forget it. Also, I need to add seeing John that same night rocking his Tele custom during the encore playing Fire. Unreal, never thought I’d see or let alone hear someone play and sound like Hendrix on a Tele. 21 years later and I’m still in awe. Thank you John.

16:00 This thing about the Seymore Duncan SSL-1s has been highly debated. His tech came out and did an interview in which he said John was mistaken, and that they were instead a set from an American Standard with the "delta" hot bridge pickup. But I understood it to mean he took the original pickups out and put in the American Standards, which I've always scratched my head about. So perhaps what you said, about how he discovered X was inside makes a lot more sense.

one correction in 7:47, John didn't give klinghoffer a guitar after he replaced him in rhcp. Klinghoffer didn't talk it through with him and they stopped contact because of that as John stated in interview, saying he gave him a guitar after he joined rhcp is like he gave him his blessing, welcome gift, false fact that lots of fans fasely repeated "he chose him!!!".

If you look for photos of John's rig in the BTW or S.A era you will never see that Tele, only on Californication Tour. the fans created the myth that John "gifted" him the Tele as a welcome to the band. but the reality is simple, Josh asked for it and JF never bothered to get it back or just forgot about it completely. (after all it was just the backup of his main Telecaster) lol PS: By the time Josh was playing with PJ Harvey he was already using the Telecaster

I'm pretty Sure Looking Closely at the Picture, It seems to be Burnt into the Plastic itself? and with a F Shaped Stencil, to protect the rest of it, as it's obviously not a Fender Issued Pickguard or we would all be able to find it very quickly, with a Google Search, or Fenders website It was Cracked, or Split from the Bottom of the F, to the Edge of the Guard itself too, so maybe the heat from burning the surface, has done that to it? a soldering Iron, or Dremel tool maybe

I have heard a few times that the radius on the 62 Strat is now 9.5” … I’m not sure if that means John swapped out the neck for a original 1970’s neck that has a 9.5” radius or if he had the original 1962 slab neck filled down to 9.5” radius … given all the recent stories about Fender John Frusciante Signature edition, I hope we get an answer to this neck question soon … 😀
@groundguitar
@groundguitar 11 ай бұрын
Don't know if he swapped necks, but I doubt it since Dave Lee said that they planned down John's Strats (plural) to 9.5” to avoid fretting out. So I guess probably many of his rosewood fretboard Strats are now 9.5” on the original necks, while the '55 maple Strat definitely remains stock in that sense since we would see if the fretboard was sanded down.

I believe John may have used the new White Falcon on White Braids and Pillow Chair. It's what he uses when they play it live and the vibrato use in the second half of the song is very Bigsby-like.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere it was done on a Jaguar in the studio, but I can't find it right now. Maybe it was in a video, I can't recall. But yeah, he does use the guitar live, which is interesting.. 🤔

He actually used his Jaguar for WBraids in studio (notice the spring sounding tremelo) but did use his 1955 White Falcon when they played it live (only once) In Europe.

It's definitely the grestch. I've both a 62 reissue jag and a white falcon, I've played it an uncountable amount of times 😂 and it sounds closest to the record using the grestch. You can hear the characteristics in the pickups...

The pick guard looks homemade ,It’s a 3 ply pick guard and the first layer has been burned through.

Regarding the 015 tuning pegs, the original pegs were made of ivory. They most likely had to be replaced over the years. I have a 1956 015, and the original tuning pegs had worn away. Most old 015s dont have original tuning pegs.

Oh good point. I forgot to add that they were changed on John's Martin - photos from a Guitar World magazine show them really well. Does the '56 differ in any way from John's guitars btw? Just asking so I can try to narrow down year of manufacture of John's Martins.

@groundguitar pretty much exactly the same as john's. They're an amazingly lightweight guitar. You're shocked with how light it is when you pick it up, but the sound is huge and very distinct. They have really low actions and are very easy to play.

The Telecaster you show is a Custom telecaster (with body binding and a single coil in the neck position), not a Telecaster custom (no body binding, with a wide range humbucker in the neck position) ... I know, but blame Fender on that. 😊

The 0-15 Martin was Obviously bought, so that Rick Ruben, doesn't know which one is being used to write and perform his Hit songs either from the Album, or in the Studio, at home writing & recording THEN, when he askes for it back, he can't sell it for a huge price, or Ask one from john, if it wasn't that one used?
