There is full character customization! On the Japanese website for the game there's a snapshot of the characters being customized.

The graphic style reminds me of Tree of Tranquility/Animal Parade, where there were no 2D portraits. I enjoyed those games, so it's not a deal-breaker for me, but I agree that 2D portraits would be ideal. Still, this is pretty exciting! I really liked the first 3DS Story of Seasons, with its range of customization from hair and clothes to farm layout, and I hope they bring that back for this.

Maybe it's wishful thinking but my fingers are crossed that maybe the character portraits will be optional and they're just turned off for the trailer! I can't really imagjne a handheld SoS without those adorable talk sprites. My only complaint is that I wish there was a little more ground texture cuz having all the grass be flat green feels a little lacking, but other than that I'm excited for more SoS!! Perfect timing Nintendo!

I see so many people on this, and on the Rune Factory vid, bringing up hopes that some characters will be represented as older looking instead of like teenagers/children. I get the argument that "these games are made for kids" but I also disagree. People who played Harvest Moon and Rune Factory their whole lives are adults now, and it bums me out that newer games aren't more targeted at us! Adults play these games, it's okay to design for us, haha. Not that it has to lose charm to a younger person, but I do wish it was more accepted that full adults play these a ton.

I really love sos and always want to be supportive, but to be honest, not having portraits is a deal breaker for me. I was really hoping for the next game to have more adult like portraits like in the original sos and the game models made me have my hopes up :(

though it was hilarious, the frame rate drops were probably the most disappointing thing about the trailer! I had a huge issue with that in trio of towns, so it's sad to see that lag is still an issue in big crop fields - especially since the game is about, uh, expanding your farm! the graphics also really give me natsume HM vibes, which isn't great... the colors in the mines look really washed out, and I would've really liked to have seen more texture in the grass since you'll be looking at it a lot as you play. the missing portraits is a huge bummer too, especially paired with the super dull-looking UI and font. it just lacks character imo! I really hope improvements are made, but if it releases as-is I think I'll unfortunately have to sit this one out!

i dont think they'll be adding 2d portrait because of how the camera positions to the models when you talk but i really hope im wrong because they add so much charm to the game

This trailer was so random in the direct and i was so hyped when i saw it! But yeh im also just sooooo sad that they didn’t add the 2d pictures of the characters but im just PRAYING TO JESUS that the developers read our thoughts to it on social media that we REALLY want those 2d pictures! Bc if they do that, im gonna insta buy it!! Like holy it looks so good! A bit diffrent than the other games, but as long as my cows are still chibbi chubby, im always in for the SOS games! 🐮💕✨ (god i just love these cows too much, they even bring back the buffalos! 🥺❤️✨) Im also excited how the music is gonna be and all in all how detailed the character storys are 😗 Im a bit worried that they rushed this game a bit too fast, bc it comes so early after the last game and also maybe they were scared of natsume gettin their game out soon too so yeh.. Im so excited for this! Ive been wanting a console Story of Seasons for a long time. About the lack of portraits: my two favorite HM games of all time did not have portraits (AWL & Animal Parade) so im not too worried! However I hope they do spiff up the character model details/emotions/animations if they go that route. I found thats why I didn't miss the portraits in Animal Parade! Great video as always and im so so excited!!

I scared my mom because I was visiting her when I saw this and as soon as I saw it was a new game and not a remake of another one I squealed for joy. I am so excited! I do agree that there should be character faces but it probably won't be a deal breaker as long as the dialogue has personality.

The style reminds me a little of a mix between Little Dragons Café and SoSFoMT. As for the character portrait, I'll wait and see. If we can move the camera while we talk to the person and the developpers made a lot of animation for facial expressions and body movement, it could be a good idea to not have portrait. I mean, a complaint I have heard about the animation of the other SoS is that an animation BETWEEN dialogues breaks the flow of the conversation. So for me, I'll wait and see. After all, Animal Parade was a great game but didn't have portrait.

YES! I love how this looks! I was a huge fan of how the Mineral Town remake looked and this took that and really upgraded it! I'm so glad they're sticking with this style actually because it feels story of seasons to me now. I would like to eventually see something like Save the Homeland again in the future but for now I'm really happy!

Just saw the direct and I‘m so glad to see you‘re already on it! We can always depend on you to dissect all SoS and Rune Factory trailers immeadiately 😊 Gonna be interesting to learn more about this game, definitely seems like they‘re moving off the beaten path, hopefully the changes work out. I have to say the art style did make me think of natsume first instead of story of seasons, too, so I‘m still not sure about that. Maybe I just have to get used to it though.

I kind of miss the Story of sesons/trio of towns graphics, but the biggest let down for me was the idea for the story. It felt a bit uninspired to just push us into carving a farm out a abandoned area. We do this in almost every game and there was always something else to do/achieve. I still need to see how much content we'll get before considering buying. Great video though.

I am hoping they don’t force you to decorate your farm too much, I’m more partial to more natural looks. I love the option to decorate! But I just hope they let you do as much or as little as you like

am I the only one who feels the graphics are a big step down from fomt? the fomt remake looked gorgeous imo and I feel like this one looks a lot less crisp and detailed, like it's lacking texture. I agree with you on the character portraits, I don't like that I get natsume vibes from some of the graphics either but I like the premise and I'm sure that the gameplay will be really good!!

Hey I just read the description of the game on Nintendo website, there is a lot of interesting stuff mentionned. More than 200 unique events, multiple levels of difficulty, Olive Town being a port town and also : '' Finding Earth Sprites while exploring your farmland may lead you to mysterious, fantastical lands such as gardens where the seasons never change, an island in the sky, or even the inside of a volcano! '' It's so exciting! Maybe these places will make office of a greenhouse, or even multiple ones?

I am a little disappointed in how it looks. The switch can do much more than that. I thought they would go in a more realistic direction after the FomT remake but sadly that isn't the case. My brother even said it looks for him like a handy game. and no 2D portraits :(

Oh my gosh!!! I’m so excited! This looks amazing and I can’t wait for more information! I’m loving the start from scratch and more inclusive gameplay and exploration. I’m not sure about the character portraits, I don’t mind either way. With that said, I do like being able to see marriage candidates faces up close. I don’t think it’d be that big of a deal when I’m able to water crops with sprinklers and decorate my farm with paths and benches. I’ll be preordering, Come on March 😁 Thank you for sharing!

Honestly I was hoping for Rune Factory 5 style graphics I'm surprised it's coming out so soon I hope it wasn't rushed.

I'm SO excited, this will help me get over the disappointment that will be One World. My only gripe is also my favorite part - building from the ground up. Part of me is so stoked, I've been doing it in ACNH, would love to do it here. The other part of me doesn't want the responsibility, I want a pre-established town. I have high hopes!

Did we come full circle? Stardew Valley was inspired by the Harvest Moon (the good ones) and Story of Seasons and now it feels like this new SoS is taking some inspiration from Stardew Valley. That is really cool. I like how they learn from each other and evolve.

The customization reminds me of a (hopefully) more user-friendly version of Harvest Moon DS, where you are given so much space and able to put your farm buildings where you wish! I always liked that feature, but it was sort of difficult to plan everything out without the help of mapping tools you could find online. Anyway I’m obsessed with this game already. I was NOT expecting a new SoS anytime soon and I’m so impressed and excited.

I'm excited but I wish the textures were more lively and detailed. I like the character design, gameplay, and concept, but the visuals look a little too similar to natsume's games. I want something that looks a little bit more like A Wonderful Life or Animal Parade. I would especially like a free camera, not a top down view. But to be fair it looks like it might be easier on the eyes once you decorate the town more. But if we are spending so much time looking at trees and nature, they really should look better. A lack of portraits is also incredibly disappointing since that's been such a staple in the series.

A new original Story of Seasons game?! THANKS GOD! One thing i loved is the "start from zero farm" who is a thing i like, start from total zero and customize. I'm very Happy with this new game!

Yeah, I would prefer the 2D character portaits too. It gives a look at the characters you just can't get from a normal sprite. Either way I have been starved from Story of Seasons, so I will accept whatever they throw at me!

My first Harvest Moon game was Animal Parade. There were never any portraits of the characters. It was my absolute favorite so I honestly don't mind the character portraits. But the big block of text instead of speech bubbles will take me a bit to get use to. But this isn't a deal breaker for me.

Other than A New Beginning, the bridge made me think of Sunshine Islands. I honestly love rival events and marriages as well, but that’s a nice thought.

i dont like how it looks!! in terms of animation SoS fomt remake is wayyy smoother :( but so excited for the all the things that we can do (the roads and the fact that we have to clear out the forest)

IT LOOKS SO GOOOODD I'm sure this game will be really good It's unfortunate we don't have the character portraits, but you know what? I'd rather not have any portraits than having portraits I don't like lol Maybe this is why they decided not to include them in fact; personally I didn't like the chibi art style of FOMT at all, but there must be people who love it out there. So by not having any portraits, they won't disappoint anyone Anyway I'm super excited for this!

The frame rate was what worried me xD This game gave me a bit of 3D: A New Beginning vibes. I hope the customization is better, I loved the customization in A New Beginning. Also I hope they kept the same-sex relationship from Friends of Mineral Town.

I'm gonna make a confession. I look forward to both this and the new Harvest Moon. I actually really like Natsume's Harvest Moon games still. They're so casual and easy to play when I don't have the focus for a lot of plot like Story of Seasons So next year's gonna be a great year for me. Harvest Moon, Story Of Seasons, AND Rune Factory

I really liked the farm customization options in the original SOS game, but now we'll have a ton more space!!

What I like is we have a date which is more than we got for rune factory.

I hope this will allow a wonderful life remake to be made in the future I love that game

Ah, a fellow customization fanatic! Subscribed! There were so many clothing options in SOS trio of towns that I don't think we need to worry about the dress-up aspect of the game, I think they will deliver. I totally agree with the absence of the 2D models, I've always liked the drawing styles, details and anime-look of the characters in 2D, not gonna lie, sometimes those models helped me to decide who I was going to marry in a game because I saw the way they looked in their wedding attire. And when I looked at the trailer, the left and right sides of the screen looked empty and boring and I was wondering why was that, then I watched your video, and that cleared up why I was feeling that way.

When i saw the main charcater portrait's i immediately thought of the Ace Trainer's from pokemon lol

With the camera zoomed in for important dialog (at least that's what it looks like), I'm ok with not having character portraits. In fact this is the first Story of Seasons I'm interested in in a very long time, feels like they finally decided to do a decent 3D implementation of the basic game concept.

Id love to have a free camera and even maybe the more detailed textures. Im not too pressed, but I would love to hear more about the town and townsfolk. I wasnt expecting another game so soon lol. I am hoping that character portraits are just opted out of the trailer and that we have them ingame! I love the art style of SOS and SOS:ToT

letting the player design their own farm and do it in their own pace is something I've been waiting for story of season to do its like animal crossing meet story of seasons! I'm so happy they finally bring back the mining and make fishing more interesting not just waiting for bite just like how rune factory frontier did it. As for the portrait, I guess they are aiming for players to focus more on the actual characters' expression? they are probably trying out new things with this new game that give new gameplay it might take getting used to but its worth it

To be completely honest, if i had to pick between a free-roaming camera and hand-drawn 2D portraits, I'd go with the camera control. Of course i prefer having both, but as long as the 3D models are detailed and expressive enough, i don't really mind the portrait's absence. Anyways, I have a feeling we're not going to get either, still buying the game though lol

I hope the portraits are added!! That’s one of the things that made story of seasons/harvest moon for me & I always loved seeing the different character designs & it helped give the game more life. I’m buying it either way but that would really suck if it’s not included

I'm so excited for this - they've made so many really cool looking improvements! Still no crafting, it appears, which is slightly sad, but given how much else they have given us...well, I'm happy!!! :)

At first sight I got Light of Hope vibes which made me worried. But watching it again it's like a mix of HMDS/HM Island of Happiness and Animal Crossing which is exciting. There are some tweaks they need to make but I think the potential is there!

I SQUEALED when they announced this, in my opinion it looks so good! It makes me almost wish this is how FOMT looked. That being said, I am stoked for a new entry, love the changes in gameplay elements, but I do agree with you about the character portraits as I would love to see those implemented. I feel this is something that could be added as they didn't show any "heart" indicator for bachelors/bachelorettes.

I don't know if I like the 2d product portraits just popping up like some sort of mobile game, but I guess it's faster than manually picking up each and every strawberry like in Animal Parade.

It's funny, over on the official trailer video, the bulk of the comments are people screaming about not comparing this to Stardew Valley because HM/SoS came first. Thing is, they might have come first, but Stardew Valley introduced a bunch of stuff that was never in any of the games up to that point, and this game appears to be taking inspiration from that. Like, for instance, your comment about the paths and landscaping, or the fact that you don't even start out with a recognizable field. So, yeah, I'm getting Stardew vibes off this game. Can't wait to play it, though!

I do hope they add the options for choosing to place a 2d model in the dialogues, I personally like it that way. Also wish for rival marriages and such to make the npcs feel more alive. Cant wait to make a farm that is unique and matches my preferences.

I am happy they are making another new game! One thing I would LOVE if they would let us customize hair and skin colour. Trio of Towns is the only Story of Seasons that I know of that allows this which why it is the best one

so excited for this game! while portraits would be nice, i dont know if they will add them before release but can hope and maybe they can fix the framerate before release too for the farm but again, can only hope lol with rune factory 5 and this game, nxt year cant come soon enough! ^.^

I'm really excited with this! An SoS with SDV vibe. But the problem, in my opinion, the graphics not so looking as good as FomT remake (Don't get me wrong, but the 3D model is great!). 2D portraits is also another thing that would be great to add in the game. I'm really hoping that they will add 2D portraits, because they had a great characters illustration on the website. But if they had a good face expression on their 3D character models like in Animal Parade, a game without 2D portrait would still be okay.

My personal favorite is A wonderful life and that one didn't have character portraits so in a way I don't mind as long as the characters at least have expressions other than that this game looks awesome and I can't wait to pick it up!
