I remember I took an assignment in Jacksonville FL.!, I knew I was in trouble when I first got there (looking fabulous of course) when they looked at me and directed me to the kitchen!!!!! In full uniform with matching clogs and a stethoscope around my neck!!! But being the New Yorker that I am it wasn’t going down like that, after a couple of days I called my agency and gave them the heads up on how I was feeling, sure enough they called my agency to tell them that they were letting me go because I couldn’t do VITALS!! They were mad because they gave me ALL of the problemed patients and they loved me…. I only had 4-6 patients!! New York you get 8-10! Oh do know when I left there after calling them all incest babies and racist, I received ALL of my money that was left on my contract!!! Stay blessed.

All of that gone & now I’m unemployed looking for employment. I was lied on by management. My nurse manager was my nurse instructor too & she lied on me as well to cause me to fail a semester. I feel like this kind of issue is getting worse. I’ve always had at least 1 or 2 people target me for being a traveler. However, because of the recent pay increase of travelers and how much our pay has been publicized, I think the targeting has gotten worse. A lot of nurses are jealous and envious of travelers. Even though the rates have gone down recently, they’re still better than they were pre-COVID.

Here is how I handle contracts. I'm very friendly & helpful, but I stay 2 myself @ the same time. I collect my check & get out. Caring 4 the patient is 2nd nature 4 me. The name of the game is get the money. I am not there 2 resolve their issues. There r people that get paid 4 that. I'm simply there 2 fill empty spots...& that's what I do. If u don't like me, ur problem, not mine. No matter how good u r, some staff simply r upset ur making more money. When ur not there, they talk crazy about travelers then smile when ur around. Some of them dog each other out, so travelers r fair game & easy targets. Some managers strictly go by what their staff tells them & r low key mad ur getting paid more than them as well.

I am currently a travel mri tech and I 100 percent agree with you. Keep to yourself. Speak when spoken to and that’s it. I say hi to everyone. I keep to myself and when ignorant things are said to Me ( trust it happens a lot ) I hold it in and walk away. It’s hard being the bigger person and not curse them out but I always tell myself the assignment will be over soon and I will never have to see this place or people ever again.
@mistermilkman
@mistermilkman 2 жыл бұрын
@@ccalexander1924 I've overheard staff talking crap & had a supervisor make slick comments 2 me. I never wanted 2 curse any1 out. I don't even curse. Nursing 4 me is a call from God. While I'm there on his assignment, I don't have the luxury 2 concern myself with their misery. My patients need me, some staff too. I bring a special light everywhere I go. My issue with a lot of nurses is, many don't realize nursing is a service job. I come 2 do just that. My life outside of the job is amazing 2 me, so I'm able 2 make work fun most of the time. I have fun with the patients & sometimes the staff if there is a genuine connection. I know how 2 lighten the mood. As long as my check isn't short, I'm good. When I was a new nurse & picked up time, my coworkers were clocking my money. It's sickening, but I guess that's what nurses do. If u want travel money, go & travel. People want big results without change. It makes no sense. Imagine fussing with a brick wall. Aint no way. Some travel nurses r problematic too, bragging about their pay on the unit. It's annoying. I will give agency names & info, but my pay is not up 4 discussion. People will try 2 devalue u & have u canceled. Managers will take their staff's side over u any day; ur making more than them too.

I’m currently in a miserable assignment. I have 6 weeks left and I have never been to such a disaster of an assignment. The techs are gossipy , the prn show up and leave when they want , nurses don’t monitor their patients how they shoukd , the techs don’t screen the patients like they should … I am calling joint commissions when this mess of an assignment is done. I want to walk out so bad but I would be dropped from my agency. I have 6 weeks left , I can soon start applying for next assignment. I just keep telling myself 1.5 months left. I can do this . Wheww! This reminded me of a contract I once had at a rehab facility. I feel like at some places they get bothered when you actually do your job correctly and barely need help. And also some places get bothered when you’re not overly friendly or nice to other staff which I found to be ridiculous. At the end of the day, I’m there as a courtesy to y’all because y’all can’t keep staff, which is not my problem. More so, I am here to do my job and that is to take care of my patients. Everything else comes second. Sorry this happened to you!

The lack of black staff should be preferences by the area. I would say it's a huge red flag if they do not have diversity that represents that area. For example, the lack of black nurses in Arkansas would be a big consurne for me. However, the lack of black nurses in the inner mountians of Colorado would not be a red flag. If Colorado had no Hispanic nurses then I would start questioning.

This was extremely therapeutic for me. I really didn’t know travelers can get terminated like this. I was recently termed after being extended another 13 weeks. I really enjoyed working there however the blacks were wayyyy outnumbered by the Mexicans who were all medical ASSISTANTS. Even to the point were all the black nurses on one unit, them on allll the others. Blatant right?? Well one day I was telling the story of Henrietta Lacks and her cells. A mex overheard. Next morning (after an hour commute) I’m getting out my car, get a call from recruiter. Ya terminated don’t even go in!! Said I caused a “hostile environment” 😤😩🤬🤯 It’s been two weeks I’m still sick and unemployed 😭 LVN, Cali Sis I knew how your story would end. After they cancelled your extension? That was the time to exit stage left 👈🏽. They already knew they would humiliate you by not letting you complete. I would’ve told the recruiter look take me off now, I sense hostility. Anyways, I wish you much luck and success!

Not only like..keep your agency involved during the assignment..e.g. patient overload..more than 8 patients and no tech..or heavy loads Everytime you work..so the agency can be aware of what's going on...if something happens..it can even help the next nurse to be aware of what she might be headed for..your license matters!!

Sweetie, I got fired by fax for questioning my case managers boyfriend being paid to work at homes of the mental health patients I was trying to help. I was a state employee at the time, had quit agency nursing because the regular staff has it in for you from the get-go. They only pay agency help when they can't keep staff, a serious red flag! Was also fired for filing a complaint of senior abuse. The agency didn't care about the patient, just keeping the case. It's been messed up since I started nursing in the 80s. I moved to Georgia straight from college in Illinois & thought I'd fallen through a time warp. Fellow nurses hated me for working with the black CNAs instead of treating them like garbage. Racism is so pervasive & it's terrible for work place atmosphere. Patient care suffers from this. I finally left nursing all together.

I’ve also got reported on for not changing a patient which is crazy cuz I’ll change a patient alone before I call a tech. Girl I totally understand everything you said. I have many things to say but we know what it is…I am so familiar with the passive aggressive behaviors of nurses, doctors and supporting staff especially while traveling. When they have the indication of not wanting to extend you BUT wanted you to finish…. They were setting you up then! That was a huge major 🚩 I will always take anything personal as it pertains to my profession…it’s all personal especially with the accusations that they were attempting to align you with. They were coming hard for you and still smiling in your face…oh it’s personal! You can’t please those people they were committed to getting you up out of there! Mysteriously enough sometimes things happen to inspire us to become greater (wink).

Remember y'all, a lot of places allow you to appeal terminations. Also, I would go after anyone who lies on you and hit them where it hurts; the pockets and reputation. You can go over HR as well. As long as people let it slide, it will continue. It tends to start small. They see how much they can disrespect you. I'm glad I was quick on my toes with that stuff when I was younger. Sounds like a classic case of bullying to me. The problem is that a lot of us allow bullying to slide because we are already overwhelmed and overworked as it is. The last thing we need is to take a detour to tackle bullies but in many cases, it's necessary. As far as discussing pay, managers know what you earn and they can be extremely messy in that area. I traveled one time and although I didn't have an issue with staff, the place was extremely understaffed and disorganized. I was exhausted by the end of my contract, so I turned down the extension and drove 13 hours straight to get back home. Lol, I couldn't get back fast enough.
