Hi Anisa! I am from Chicago, I am also a Chicago Police Officer. The rape situation happens at a lot of schools and the school administration sweeps tragic incidences like rape under the rug to save face for the reputation of the school, which is 100 percent WRONG because it demonstrates that the school administration does not care about their students. I responded to a rape victim at the University of Chicago hospital, when I got there there was a woman in the room with the victim, I knocked on the door, this lady told me that the victim didn't want to talk to me. So I asked her what her relation was to the victim, she said no relation, so I asked her who she was, she said she was the "rape dean" and the young lady doesn't want to talk to you. You may ask WTF is a "rape dean"? So basically a "rape dean" is a person that is put in place to talk victims out of reporting a traumatic incident such as rape to save the reputation of the school. I told the "rape dean" that if she doesn't leave the room so that I can talk to the victim that I was going to lock her up for obstruction. She moved out of my way and I did my job. The "rape dean" really talked this young lady out of having a rape kit done. This young lady was so upset, so hurt, and so scared. I continued to talk to her and then she then agreed to have a rape kit performed on her to collect any DNA that might have been present in/on her body from the person that violated her. Her clothing was also collected by the evidence technician, the detective division was notified and they responded for follow up. When I talked to the detective, he told me about the "rape dean" and explained to me what I just explained above. Young ladies.....I don't care what city or state or school you attend you have to careful on ANY and EVERY college campus. Furthermore, God forbid anything happen to you or anyone you know.....you want the animal that violated you behind bars and registered as a sex offender so that this doesn't happen to anyone else. NO ONE should ever get away with violating you! I was so disgusted with the University of Chicago and how they handled that situation and listening to your story about an incident that has happened to a young lady on Hampton's campus.....Anisa, this confirms how schools try to protect the reputation of the school and people are paying a lot of money to send their kids there. University of Chicago also had a high suicide rate because in some instances, parents was putting a lot of pressure on their kids to perform well because of the amount of money they were paying out. Parents, protect your children's mental health. Yes they should perform well in school, but at the same time if they are not, find out why and listen to how your kid is feeling and never shame them for failing because some kids may feel like they've disappointed you as their child because they can't keep up, maybe the work load is too intense, maybe they are trying to live out your dreams as a parent and its really not what they want to do. Please be careful at ANY and ALL college campuses....rape happens everywhere and there are representatives at the school that will downplay your experience and talk you out of pressing charges. Don't allow that to happen you. Please be safe and be blessed!

Interesting. Thanks for your transparency. Yours is one example of the student (social) experience many go through. Hopefully folks manage study time more tightly after watching this vid. It’s an adjustment. Those on scholarship GOTTA stay on track. It’s important to remember: social life doesn’t keep the student in college. Academics do. Much success in your future endeavors (everyone).

My daughter is completing her Sophomore year at HU. She will get her undergraduate degree there however, she experienced some of the exact topics this young lady has shared. I can honestly state, have a good relationship with your child if they attend and be available for them at their disposal. I can say this has truly helped her/ us to this point.

Hello Young Lady - I am graduate of Hampton University with a Bachelor of Architecture degree (1992) I’m sorry for your mental health issues you experienced and other issues. Hampton University is a small private university. It’s also a conservative school. It’s wasn’t/isn’t a party school. The safety issues do concern me though. Hopefully the ‘Blue Light System’ has been addressed by now. Thank you, for your transparency. I wish you well in your future endeavors.

You are beautifully and wonderfully made by GOD, so never forget how precious and awesome you are. Thank you for sharing your experience, it was extremely helpful. My daughter was going to apply for Fall 2021, but I think we’ll pass. We’re in California and I need to know that she’d be safe and cared for. As I watched the virtual tour I found it strange that the current president of HU had a statue erected. That alone shows a level of vanity and arrogance. Just based on the images of the crowds gathered for the 12/2s, at $40k per everything should be running optimally and sanitation pristine. I appreciate you. Be blessed

First of all you are a beautiful young women inside and outside. I hope you telling your story will help someone else. My son’s campus was not closed and they used the blue lights also to call the campus police in the evening to walk you were you needed to be to feel safe. It’s a shame they cut it off because you even said your lab ended at 10pm. Anyone can climb a fence or gate.

Its typical for University admin to not be concerned with student personal life. Some places may care about you. I was very lucky that this situation wasnt me, but I used to go to the bursar with friends. I saw the extreme APATHY from the financial advisors loudly talking the students business in front of everyone, I felt SO bad for those students. Basically, the employees were like...YOU DONT HAVE ANY MONEY, YOU CANT STAY, SORRY...BYE BYE...NEXT!!!! I was like, wow!

How did the funds become lost? Do not feel as though you need to tell your personal business [you never know when job hunting who will look you up and make assessments about you based on posts like these.] If I am reading this post correctly, you are not a "schedule" person and that had a direct effect on your studies-- if this is the case, I hope that wherever you are and whatever you do, that you are able to use your need to communication with others in a way that helps you on whatever career path you choose. I too like to socialize but have used that combined with my other skills to be a teacher in a urban school district and to work on my free time for social organizations.

Linda Keels Yes ma’am, I am using this as a testimony of where I was. It’s been a year and the Lord has really changed my mindset around completely. Lack of motivation and difficulty with following schedules could be pointing to an executive functioning issue like ADD/ADHD. Women’s ADD/ADHD symptoms present differently than men’s symptoms; low self-esteem, feelings of worthlessness, depression, anxiety, etc. are common with ADD/ADHD. If you find that you are still struggling with these things, please do not hesitate to visit a compassionate, competent behavioral health specialist that can help - preferably someone who won’t run to prescribe medication right out of the gate, but who can accurately provide a diagnosis, and help you cultivate healthy habits and a scheduling system that will work for you. You are not alone! Peace.

Well said! I didn't go to Hampton University...I went to Hampton Institute (yeah I'm old)...but we took our blankets down to the waterfront on the weekends...the music majors jammed...and we chilled...lit or whatever! But when it was time for class...if we wanted to stay....we went to class. But in all fairness I have to say that I was going to leave after my freshman year, until my mom asked me to do one thing for her...take my flute back and join the band, or join some other music of forensic organization (both of which I had been good at in high school) and then if I still wanted to leave I could. I never looked back...
