The idea of Humpty Dumpty being an egg actually comes from an original Alice in Wonderland illustration. The original artist that illustrated Humpty Dumpty portrayed him as an egg and now he's considered an egg.

Humpty dumpty was a cannon that fell off a battlement in English civil war in Colchester in 1648 so the historians say. A part of this war was the royalist wanting King Charles the 1st to rule the country without parliament. Humpty was supposedly the cannon but an egg was chosen to make the rhyme child friendly or give it a riddle type quality .

What you saw at 11:47 appears to be a variant on a Waltzer type ride, they're common funfair rides in the uk. The idea being the carts spin and the track spins.

Humpty Dumpty was the name of a canon back in the Civil War in the origin of the story is that the Canon was on a fort I believe for the union and it had fallen over the side of the wall When the top of wall gave out Where it was placed and then they came up with that poem

To expand on the Humpty Dumpty discussion, although the rhyme itself dates back to the English Civil War era, it was first printed in 1910 in "Alice Through the Looking Glass" by none other than Lewis Carroll, where Humpty Dumpty was portrayed as an egg - which is why (presumably) everyone thinks of Humpty Dumpty as an egg now.

In the book its "Mirror, Mirror..." because in the original collection from the brothers Grimm its "Spieglein, Spieglein..." so they changed that line in the movie.

I looked Humpty Dumpty up on Wikipedia. The nursery rhyme is thought to be from 18th century England. He was first referred to as an egg in Through the Looking Glass by Louis Carroll. I hope that helps clear it up for you.

Humpty Dumpty being an egg is a play on an old riddle that uses some very old slang terms, and one of the answers was an egg. Lewis Carrol turned it around and straight up drew him that way in "Alice Through The Looking Glass," and that version stuck.

The carousel was down for about 2 years after Katrina, the horses have real horse hair tails. The lady bug coster was wiped out by Katrina and was replaced. The oldsmobile cars are no longer there... those were my favorite ride, and the dragon slide was my favorite storybook land display, I was terrified of the whale as a little kid and it use to have a fish tank in his throat when I was little. I ha e had so many birthdays and christmases there....

This is an old video, but thanks for going to Storyland. For me, its home, and I miss home. You need to go during Christmas In The Oaks. The Christmas lights in the surrounding area is gorgeous.... With Mr Bingle!!!! Also, just for reference, its pronounced "Chop - i-two - lus"

The Humpty Dumpty story was actually based off a canon with that the name Humpty Dumpty. The canon had fell off the fort wall and they tried to fix it but it was beyond repair! The reason why he is portrayed as an egg is due to it fitting a lot more. An egg being much for fragile would definitely break if it were to fall.

Funny thing about Anansi is that there's a similar character in Lakota tribe lore called Iktomi, who's also a spider trickster, sometimes a hero and sometimes a villain.

The Caterpillar tells Alice one side of the mushroom makes you taller, the other side makes you shorter. The bottle is in the hallway and makes her shrink. There's a cake in the same chapter, which Alice pockets some of, that makes her grow.

I hold to the view that the Humpty Dumpty poem is a riddle. In Carroll’s day, good riddles were expressed in verses or nursery rhymes. The answer to the Humpty Dumpty sense riddle is “an egg”. Carroll’s use of the riddle suggests that it was quite familiar to children.

The mushroom made Alice both tall and short. One side would make her grow taller, and the other side would make her grow shorter. The liquid she drank made her grow smaller. She ate a piece of candy or mint, cookie, something, which made her grow taller... that is, if you are going by Disney version... I never read the book :-)

1:41 Humpty Dumpty is a good Rapper as seen in the movie "Nothing But Trouble" Good scence with Dan Akroyd What I heard in from old English Legend / Lore is that Humpty Dumpty was a Cannon that was placed on a major bridge on the Thyme River, the cannon fell off into the water and all the kings horses and men (military) could not put it back together again as it was sunk. No idea if this is true but what I had heard in High School Literature class.
