Bernie is a charming and hilarious character who's worked on Moore St for nearly 60 years. Here she tells stories of Brendan Behan, street characters, Hollywood stars and chocolate. Moore street is an old market street in Dublin, which has lately changed dramatically from a very 'old dub' street to a lively multicultural one. It has a reputation for charming and witty stall owners, but even among them Bernie is well known for her fast talk and wit. See more stories at www.storymap.ie

Bernie You have had an aul Dub in London Laughing ! My Mother grew up with The Kennedy's who where on Moore street too . Great Memories of Hard Working People out in all weather helping Poor People feed large Families , God Bless Them All .

The "casual racism" is just sharp banter, she's just winding him up. There isn't any hatefulness in her. She'd be the first to help anyone. These older traders grew up in the heart of Dublin so they knew tough times that gave them a tough skin. The slagging they can dish out does be merciless, but just for the craic. You'd find no kinder souls anywhere.

God Bless that woman. 💔 her child dying in her arms. My 16 year old daughter died in Nov 2018. I know what she means about talking to her child everyday - I do the same. My daughter and I took a trip to Dublin for her 16th birthday in Aug 2018 💜

My 2 aunts traded here, both passed now sadly,this takes me right back. It takes roughness & pressure to produce diamonds & these people were diamonds, AND you'd get 5 bars of chocolate for a quid 😘

I remember this woman son Martin the stall was outside the old the o rahilley pub my dad was a bar man in there i use to collect the glasses of a saturday and sunday its the mall now

It's so sad to see what Moore st has turned into these last few years. It's almost a No-Go area. Roma gypsy gangs everywhere. All the Irish traders and shops gone. African & Chinese brothels line the street nowadays. The heart off Dublin has been ripped out of it. 😢

instead of blaming everyone but the Irish, remember why all these ethnic groups took up shops in Moore Street. Because they were offered very cheap short term leases. The whole area was to be demolished from the Carlton Cinema on O'Connell Street back to Moore St with all those shops and streets inbetween to be flattened and forgotten, very similar to what happened with the Ilac. And with Temple Bar, when artists were offered low rent accomodation on a short term basis because the whole area had been bought by CIE with the intention of putting a bus station there.

This is the Dublin I remember so money characters,I am sitting up it now 7 on a Sunday morning while the coronavirus is in full swing, Thinking of the old days and how far we have fallen away from the truth to except Abortion same-sex marriage please Lord take up all back to simpler days.

I am not going to talk real Dublin but she is pure dublin miss these women the heartbeat of our city babies reared in fruit boxes teapots on the go getting there hair done of a Saturday the great brilliant people are all gone and our city is not the same😥😥😥😥😥
