My folks were born in Haiti. My mother never went back once she got her legal papers to come here and got naturalized. My father had to go because his mother died and her funeral was over there. I’ve heard a lot of crazy stories about how Haiti was.

I appreciate your Mom opening up her painful experiences. The valuable lesson I took from this story is WATCH CAREFULLY THE COMPANY YOU KEEP. Not every person you encounter should be classified as a friend. God bless her!

Iam confused nothing is clear the story will be so much better if she speak creole something is definitely not clear but I know the time shes talking about was very rough if you was friend wth someone in the government or a party that didn't agree with the others your entire family can loose their lives over simple friendship.iam happy she made it safe and didn't get set on fire in the middle of the street. Its around the time i left also iwas attack because of my skin complexion.

Wow, what a story. Mami is blessed. My mother is the same way, she is nice to everybody regardless of status. I remember that time...I was almost teenaged in the states and someone lent us this horrible vhs tape showing all the dechoukage (violence & payback) against anybody associated with the Duvalier regime and tonton makout. It was horrific. So glad your beautiful mother was able to escape that.

Vanessa, can you ask your mom two questions for me? 1. Was the guy a Tonton Macoute 2. Did she get therapy in the United States? Thank you for sharing. I was so young when I left Port-au-Prince, but I saw more than enough drama but my parents were so protective of me. The 80's in POP was hot with disturbances. I am thankful that God protected her.
