Put the cement mix on the lintel first and lift it in and up against the existing brickwork.

Looks great. Can I ask what kind of plaster you use to make good?

I am planning on installing the Volcano Plus fireplace insert into my existing masonry fireplace but I want to build out from the old firebox one foot along the whole wall so I can build new built-in bookshelves that the fireplace is flush with. How should I prepare the space for the insert in the areas where it is not set in the old firebox? Is it safe to use metal studs/cement board and firerated roxul to fill in the empty spaces? The insert is Supreme Fireplaces Volcano Plus. Thanks for your help, James

Metal stud, block and render, matserboard and render is all good. avoid firerated plasterboard as that is not allowed, it has a paper backing and is only a time delay before it catches fire.

HiIf the brick chimney is working do you still have to have a liner for a log burner
@TheHeatStoreLtdStudley8 жыл бұрын
+Sam Short Providing the chimney passes a smoke or air pressure test then no need for a liner, however, stoves work better on a liner, they are all tested on liners for efficiency and it is better for sweeping. Hope this is helpful. Regards The Heat Store Ltd

Is the new lintel the same height as the original opening?

Why not iron bench, iron fire place, spiral smoke outlet with 0,5 m diameter, spiral like 9 m in length. Iron sylinder coat, filling with sand, connection to chimney. Forced flow, through water due emission handling, heat pump residue heat benefitational surplus😅

Quick question I had old fireplace which I want to change to stove when I checked opening hole of the chimney it looks like it is around 10cm so 4inch fexi liner will be max that i can go. But is there any issue if Flexi pipe will touch or almost touch walls of chimney?

The MINIMUM dia liner for a stove is 5in. Get a professional in

Liner is supposed to be insulated.

Doesn't have to be. There are benefits but it isn't regulatory

No it isn't. Deciding on insulation is at the discretion of the installer. Sounds like something you've been told by someone that doesn't know what they are talking about. There are instances where vermiculite insulation is beneficial, like in a tall, exposed stack on top of a hill, is one instance but there are others. This probably isn't one of them. Clearly you're not a HETAS H003 installer, go on the course, then we'll talk. If you are still unsure call Howard at NACE, he'll set you straight!
