In 2015 two men stowed away in the landing gear of a British Airways flight from Johannesburg to Heathrow. One of them fell to his death in Richmond - making worldwide headlines - but miraculously his companion survived an 11 hour flight with temperatures reaching -60C.Award winning film-maker, Richard Bentley, sets out to uncover who they are, how they got on the plane and why they decided to undertake such a dangerous and desperate mission. As he starts to look into this incredible story he discovers that it is in fact part of a new, chilling and little known phenomenon of people trying to enter the UK illegally.

Being South African and a frequent international traveller, I’m touched by this story and knowing and seeing the impact of African politics pushing people away from their homes to the land of the unknown is a daily struggle of bare survival for many of these people.

If only the western countries would speak out against the corrupt African leaders and stop aiding and supporting them, then we would have no need for people risking their lives to run away to foreign lands. The hard life journeys of people leaving unbearable situations that force them to make the heartbreaking and dangerous flights from their homelands to the unknown are unimaginable to you. A more successful try was in the mid 1960s. Kenny Pastori stowed on a Pan Am flight from New York to London. He stowed in a chamber beneath the pilot’s cabin that was pressurized and warm. After landing he waited until the plane was empty and exited up through the cabin floor. He, however failed to clear customs due to a lack of a ticket! He was questioned by Scotland Yard and eventually was sent back to New York.

To continue a weird story, Kenny jumped a train and ended up in Austin when we were all getting turned into a nation of Hippies!. He was so friendly and guileless that he became an Austin fixture. But his real dream was to eventually make it to the small Seychelles off the east coast of Africa. After a year in Austin he jumped a train back to Queens, New York. From there he hide, unfortunately on The plane Robert Kennedy was taking to California and his demise. The Secret Service discovered him and gave him the third degree! They released him and he jumped Anther train to L A!!! Some mutual friends ran into him there and learned he was soon getting on a plane to Hawaii. He made it to Hawaii and there he met some Air Force crewmen who got him on a flight to Guam. At that point I’m unsure how he got to the Seychelles but about a month later he wrote me and described his incredible trip!!! He soon went completely native and I assume is still living his dream!

A truly unique and remarkable story with great emotional depth which is told in such a heartfelt and visceral way! OUTSTANDING!!! Thank you so much for creating and sharing this incredible film! I spent several years of my childhood in rural Africa -which was probably the most impactful events during that period and an immense blessing & privilege. The desire to seek a better life in the West is very intense among so many. However, the life that awaits many of those who do make it is not what they expected or hoped for and there are many who regret it at least to some degree. But returning without "a fortune" would be very shameful and they would be looked down on as failures. I am so pleased to learn that Justin is at least living his life in England as he so longed to do, but I can feel his pain for the loss of his dear friend, Carlito.

As a commercial pilot, I find it hard to take a video seriously when it gets basic facts wrong. No commercial airliners fly at 60,000 feet. Very few aircraft can even reach FL600. Beyond 12,500 feet, you need supplemental oxygen within 30 minutes to avoid hypoxia, which becomes life-threatening above 20,000 feet and almost immediate at 60,000 feet. It’s highly unlikely anyone could survive at cruising altitudes without oxygen, as hypoxia sets in rapidly. It’s surprising he survived such a harsh environment. If he had stayed in the landing gear storage area, he might have lived. Hypoxia caused him to lose consciousness, and he may have only regained it briefly as the plane descended. If he had woken up a couple of minutes earlier, he might have survived.

He's glad he's born in a country that has the ability to "steal" from African resources and utilize the steal judiciously for the betterment of its populace. I mean you know non G7 country can't steal from another continent right?. So his point is still valid. Stop crying. Africa is the problem of Africa. Even if the G7 don't steal from us, we/the politically privileged will steal from ourselves and enrich our unborn generations to the detriment of the less privileged. They are stealing as we speak and coupled with the one G7 are stealing that's double tragedy😂

I had tears when the man’s daughter saw a picture of her father for the first time. I certainly hope they gave her copies of the digital image. IF you watch the video to the end Simba states what happened to him which is likely the same as Carlito. He passed out from lack of oxygen once they reached altitude, so Carlito likely was alive the same as Simba but because they were both likely passed out Carlito fell to his death because, unlike Simbar wrapping his arm to some structure before passing out, Carlito was not secured and fell to his death once the gear was extended. Since he was passed out he likely never knew what happened after departure from Africa.

Heartbreaking. 💔 My prayers include love, empathy, and hope for the millions of desperate, suffering people who are just trying to find a tolerable life. 🙏🏽🙏🏽 It upsets me to hear people talk about those seeking a better life in cruel, heartless terms. I know our Creator will wash away their tears one day, and my heart breaks for what they have to go through in the meantime. 🥺 My life has been horribly challenging, but knowing how much worse off so many, many people are, prompts me to count my blessings. 🫠 Instead of building walls and detainment prisons or deporting people, we should be tearing down walls, and sharing our blessings with them. I have gladly opened my home to people in need, but wish I could do more.🤦🏽‍♀️💞
