Some of the comments are annoying. Yes, these moves are not for combat. They are designed to help a practitioner remember all the basic concepts of their style.

Some people think the only reason to practice martial arts is for combat. Health and self-enrichment are also reasons for practicing. Just because you want to study a foreign language doesn't mean you plan on being an interpreter.

Not exactly sure of your question...it is a little confusing but the sword used is the jian. It's a double edged, one handed straight sword up to 31" inches long I believe.

i have a question, what type(s) of sword(s) are used in this style (Specifically) most effectivly or often? as where a Foil or Rapier (Foil being specificlly now) is the "Normal" Fencing thought of,guessing a shortsword from looks, curious on exact though

This is typical Modern Northern Sword. I like the basics, but nobody whose style is aimed for fighting is ever going to fully extend their arms or legs - always bent. Also, fighters keep their shoulders arched inward, not straightened out. This is good for basics, if you can separate the pretty from the practical.

This set of forms is very similar to the ones that appear in the book Chinese Kung Fu Series 7 Elementary Swordplay and Broadsword-play.

Michael Thomas The book seems to describe some interesting differences. For instance, after Stage 3, Form 6, which the book describes as "Hop and Flip", the instructions appear to indicate a 360° pivot on the right foot before the handle of the sword is brought in front of the chest and continuing on to "Press Down with Side Crouch". That's how I've been doing it.

I'll have to look at the book to see. I think I still have a copy somewhere. I learnt the set from Wang Jurong. The way she taught me was pretty much the same as in this video.

Michael Thomas I learned from a book. The guy who sold it to me told me that I had the bone structure and qi flow of a kung fu master, and that the book was priceless, but that since it was fate he would let me have it for only $10.00!! :-)

The sets in the book are foundation sets. I feel that they are really important to learn.
