Philippines building BrahMos missile base aimed at South China Sea

The Philippines is taking steps to ensure China does not dominate the South China Sea by building its first BrahMos anti-ship missile base aimed at the contested waters. Satellite imagery from Maxar Technologies appears to show the development of the base, which includes a high bay for maintenance and testing, as well as a separate shelter for missile storage.

Indian version of Brahmos has a range of 600km soon to be extended to 800km and then to 1000+ km. But due to MTCR rules 290km is range for exports.

Now the PAF has to purchase more Spyder System to protect the Brahmos,so far the PAF has only 3 batteries of MR,if the project is at least 6 Brahmos batteries,that means 6 Spyder with LR instead of MR,plus another 8 batteries of Spyder to protect the rest of the Philippines from missile attacks.WIth a budget of 1%GDP goodluck that would take 25 years,Filipino tax payers should encourage their lawmakers to increase to 2%,instead of using the budget to get themselves reelected by making useless projects all over the country.

If you read the developmental history with the number of variants made for specific use cases, then it's obvious that how key is the Brahmos missile to India's own national security. We made a variant that does steep dive at 75° after gaining altitude to use against the PLA in occupied territory of Tibet.

Let's get the context straight first. China encroached on Philippine territorial waters, shooing fishermen, destroyed the sea bed with centuries-old marine resources, built militarized artificial islands, and had the area swarm with huge naval ships. When the oil drilling deal was scrapped because China didn't want the contract to be governed under Philippine laws, they claimed it was theirs and intensified their presence. It was basically no different from INVASION.

Exactly! When China learned from that joint exploration with the Philippines after the Philippine government authorized it, they found out that there’s a massive oil reserve discovered in the Philippines territory. China now wants a sole access to that oil reserve but of course, the Philippines didn’t agree. China now being desperate wants to claim it as their own yet prior to that discovery China was seeking authorization from the Philippines. China is greedy and a bully and must be stopped.

Before selling it to Phillipines, India tested BrahMos by firing a missile into Pakistan. Chinese Air Defence deployed in Pakistan weren't even able to detect the missile. Forget about shooting it. It was able to shoot a 3m x 3m unmanned target successfully. Ofcourse Indian Officials will say that it was a mistake but we all know😅 Note: The Missile did not had any payload attached.

Not an expert but I it's because of budget concern. Philippines has already some ships ordered from South Korea and I think the lastest addition to Philippine navy ships is a missile boat from Israel. Now regarding on Philippines capabilities to build ships, it's not on a level that can build large ships only small patrol boats.

Used to be a military contractor in the country. If you've been in the Philippine circle of news, they're actually procuring more than that. They are constructing two more ports that have capabilities manufacturing Israeli designed warships and training. They are currently procuring 3 submarines. South Korea and France are currently bidding for said submarine contract. A Nuclear powerplant is also being considered to be put back into service to power said war factories. (Supposedly will be the first operational powerplant in all of South East Asia) The Philippines recently made a deal with Japan that involves procurement of 4 more warships, naval surveillance system and missile interceptor system. The Philippines is an extremely pacifist country. Never really considered building it's military since the country has very very few enemies and was only bothered equipping itself with domestic terrorism in mind. They decided to not fk around this time due to China.

Philippines will only get the 290km range brahmos from India bcoz its not a member of MTCR . India at 1st was also not a MTCR member & it had to develop the Brahmos under 300km but now since its a member 800km range Brahmos has already be trested & most of the existing brahmos have been upgraded to 600km range . The thing is brahmos can literally split a ship into 2 without even the warhead in it . Its kinetic force is itself to do the damage

Missiles/bombs and drones can only do so much in a war it won't guarantee a win. Good example in Russia-Ukraine war. Don't under estimate the power of air superiority that's the backbone of US and its allies especially Israel equipped with modern jet fighters. Filipinos need short range anti-air missiles at 45miles, 60miles, 120/150 miles + anti- drone installations to ensure safety of those batteries' storages. In future air variants of Cruise missiles would also be needed by Filipinos, but the Army is in planning to be the nxt acquisition front due to some situational planning demands probably.

Last April 2024, US Army deployed their new ground based missile system called Typhoon to the Philippines. The system can launch Tomahawk (1500 km range) and SM -6 missiles (250 km range). China is losing their shit over the presence of the mobile launchers in Northern Luzon because the Tomahawk covers Taiwan, all Chinese military facilities in the SCS and even coastal cities in the Chinese mainland.

Those who say the Phillipines should have bought ATACMs or PSBMs from the USA instead of BrahMos, here's the thing : 1) USA is phasing out ATACMs by giving it to Ukraine in the war, and replacing it with PSBMSs, so it will not produce any ATACMs in the future and soon run out of those. 2) USA doesn't have enough PSBMs for itself so its not going to give it to its allies until it has had its share, it'll take a couple of more years. Conclusion : So, the Phillipines military did the right thing.

The Philippines shouldn't bought these missiles. It's hard to move, too big, and a sitting duck. The Philippines should have bought a bunch of mobile Himars from the United States. Himars battery can be used in short range(186 miles), the medium range like ATACM (350 miles)AND SUPER LONG RANGE PRSM (Precision strike missiles) that can reach China mainland 650 miles. If the Philippines populate their islands facing the West Philippines sea, the Chinese cannot sail within the reach of these missiles. Brahmos is a waste of money, it's fixed and carried by 18 wheeler for transport that will bogged down in the Philippines terrains.

They bought BrahMos to strengthen the Naval Forces first since China is showing aggression in the waters. The Philippines can always get surface to air batteries in the future. An overall upgrade takes time, it's not like you can carry HIMARS through the seas. 😂 While HIMARS is good, probably the first priority is to strengthen the navy since the variants Phillipines bought are anti-ship missiles.

Also, get your facts straight, USA is phasing out the ATACMS and giving it to Ukraine for war with Russia and slowly will replace it with PSBM (Precision Strike Ballistic Missile) , USA doesn't even have enough PSBMs for itself yet and it's going to stop producing ATACMs so I think the Phillipines did the right thing because technically it's not possible to buy the weapons which you have mentioned.😂 Since USA won't be producing atacm anymore and PSBM will take several years to reach other Allies.
