Original art forms, really original in these days is almost impossible to find, yet here it is; a perfect combination of technical skill, imagination and beauty. How I would love to see one of these in person someday, but at least here we get to see many of them. Thank you!

What a bright and cheery visual. Animated art is rare, but to this degree was unheard of until this man broke our contemporary notions of what is possible. Can't imagine the engineering and work that goes into imagining, drawing up, building, transporting, and then chasing down one of these mobile masterpieces. A deeply profound sense of appreciation for this man and his team.

I love how the myriad feet quickly tippy toe across the sand with elegance and fluidity. Truly beautiful, I would love to be small enough to ride in one!

I recently read about why Theo Jansen makes Strandbeest. He wants to show is that, in his words, the walls between art and engineering exist only in our minds. After watching these videos I couldn't agree more. Videos like these should be shown in schools.

Is this just a dream? Subtle and profound. Haunting and inspiring. Kept alive. Nurturing a tranquil state of being - example of how we can spend our days - in awe - co-creating wonders. What a wonderful possibility.

I saw Theo’s strandbeesten a couple of years ago. I can’t find words to describe how special they really are. The way they move, it’s truly amazing. What an artist.

This is seriously amazing. It makes me think what could this type of design be utilized for beyond this already incredible expression of art? Such as harnessing the wind in sailing vessels where the sails don't just drag a boat, but in turn also drive similar mechanics to turn props and generators. Just on it's own the engineering is incredible.

Blowing my mind! It's beautiful. The movement capture the movements of tiny starfish legs, shrimp, sea cucumbers, millepieds, centepedes, and birds. So lifelike yet so otherworldly. Love it.

When Theo runs over like a concerned parent to a stumbling toddler 🥰. Fantastically beautiful creations that speak a universal language - comments from across the world, great to see.

I almost never comment on youtube videos, but this is really truly amazing. I came across the Strandbeest a few years ago and I was immediately filled with immense wonder. They have stayed on my mind and I think about them once in a while. It feels as though they are from a different universe, or a parallel timeline. The majestic scenery and the classical music adds so much! I would be honored to witness one of your creations one day.

This is absolute genius like I have never seen before. I am an aerospace engineer here in the States. I am gladly sharing this. Such unique thinking. As if I’m watching parallel evolution of other species that could exist elsewhere in the universe. Simply breathtaking.

What I find most captivating about the strandbeests are how lifelike they are. They truly seem alive, and it’s curious, because they have no artificial intelligence, no life-like textures or appearances, they are simply a combination of sailcloth and tubing. They probably could have been made (at much greater cost) hundreds of years ago, with oiled leather pouches for air sacks and reeds for tubing, and yet they are so lifelike out of such simple materials. It makes me wonder: just what about them is intrinsic to our human perception of life?

At 2:45, watching the beest that is tied to the ground and desparately trying to lift off, the words 'animal abuse' popped into my head, and wouldn't leave. Your creations feel like real creatures to me. Bravo.

Honestly - you should film all your creations in the magic light in the beginning of the video. Those dark, cloudy, dreamy skies are just perfect for the sculptures and remind me so much of Tanguy's magic, haunting world. Brilliant work with your Stransbeest!

This video is incredible Theo. Your creations are mechanically beautiful. When I saw them in the air I stood up and said "what?", I didn't know you were teaching them to fly. I have so much respect for your decision to pursue an idea that is so progressive, and focused, and specific, but not defined or limited, or influenced in any particular way. It's hard to find the right words to express how your art makes me feel. I'm wasting my life, not living it.

I haven't seen Strandbeest for a few years. So glad you are still making them because they are remarkable in their apparent simplicity, but the physics is mindblowing. Every flat beach needs some! I'm in Australia where there are many wide flat white beaches. I grew up on one that was 5ks long and 1k wide on a low tide. But the beach was almost completely covered at high tide so there would not be much room for a Strandbeest to rest on the high. 👍😄

This is the perfect vid to watch right after waking up when the night’s dreams are still fresh in the mind. It amplifies the already nice “is this real or am I still dreaming?” quality the footage already possesses.

These are incredible pieces of engineering, but these would pretty scary to see undulating down the beach towards you if you weren't prepared to see them or were unfamiliar with them.

I loved the Onedin line many years ago and thank you for your inventions Theo, the world needs more people like you.

These images are magical, as, of course are the fascinating objects here, each more enchanting than the other. I cannot help but think of the enormous logistic to transport and deploy these enormous pieces, which, I can only imagine must be disassembled, loaded into a large vehicle, and then put together on the beach. Which means, for every minute of enchantment and magic, there must be countless hours of production and logistic to make it happen. And this is not considering the months of designing, r&d, prototyping, testing, and manufacturing. Mind blowing indeed.

I came across this l, that morning during my meditation time. It was utterly breathtaking and mind boggling at the same time. I had to watch it over and over again. To see that there were no persons inside of the creation. I've seen some beautiful art in my life. But nothing I've seen comes close to this engineering wonder I've come access this morning. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for letting me see your knowledge. I feel blessed ❤❤❤❤❤

Strange and beautiful. I especially love the centipede tails, or whatever you're calling them. The movement of the wave draws your eye back to the piece. They're mesmerizing and yet, somehow, they sorta give me the willies, but just enough to be very interesting, I can explore the feeling. My brain keeps trying to tell me they're alive, kinda like when you see a face in some wrinkled fabric. They remind me of Wayne Barlowe's book "Expedition" in the best way too.

Theo Jansen was a visiting artist when I attended Herron School of Art and I had the honor to see one of his sculptures move in person. Extremely complex and so elegantly created. Wonderful to reconnect with him again!

First time seeing this, I couldn't quite place what I felt. I was at the convergence of fright, awe, and curiosity; transfixed by both the familiarity and alienness of it.

That's amazing. I've heard of the Strandbeeste years ago, I didn't realise they'd become so advanced though! I love the ones that fly! The one that has to be tethered down, could you give it some long strings, and let it escape into the sky? Some crazy bird or crab creature dancing across the sky would be amazing to see. How high might it be able to go? Theo, have you thought about making one of these strong enough to ride? So you could sit on it's back, metres above the beach, and it's enormous wind-catchers would have it prancing and streaking across the sand, with you on the back pulling levers to steer it. Then when you're bored of that you pull the "transform" lever and it turns into a bird and you fly away. I'm disappointed to hear they end up in the "boneyard", surely there must be museums and art galleries around the world interested in these? They're evidence that, if you really want to, you can do anything with science and engineering. Their inspirational value alone is immense, but seeing some of the mechanisms explained in a museum would be good too.

I think Da Vinci would've loved this. This looks straight out of his artworks. You feel like you would see one of these walking near a science center in the 18th or 17th century.

As an engineer, I'd love to see the video of how they get these things to beach and assemble them before they start walking...

I love this. Oh, my wife and I both thought "I think I've seen this before" the first time we saw it. I think it's because they are reminiscent of some of Da Vinci's drawings of flying machines he never built.

Blown away. At first I was peering at the screen , trying to see the people hidden inside doing the pedalling, but then I realised I was seeing genius of engineering and art combined.

The immense genius it must take to make these is sublime. The videos and music combine to make me feel as though I’m in a Dali piece and the location makes each shot like a painting. Beautiful.

These are truly exquisite creations - hard to believe that they contain zero electronics, that they are just wind powered - the mechanical craftsmanship of these creations are another level entirely…

Amazing. Felt like landing on an alien planet, and observing for the first time its lifeforms, totally different from anything familiar to us.
