Hey. I’m at trainee fireman on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway in England. The safety valves go off when the locomotive gets to its maximum ‘safe’ working pressure. They are hydraulic tested to a much higher pressure to make sure they are safe. The two ways to stop a safety valve going off when coasting is by leaving the fire alone until the pressure dies back a little, the most efficient way to keep the pressure down and stop the locomotive from blowing off is to put an injector on. That puts water in the boiler and reduces the steam space, therefore allowing less steam pressure!

@@BluGames yeah. The only other thing you can do is make sure that your blower is shut and the dampers shut. Just remember to open the dampers again when you start moving.

Well done. You may have made some of the run a bit harder on yourself a few times because the rear part of your train was "unfitted", meaning they had no automatic brakes. British freight trains and brakes developed differently in the UK than in the US. Where the US made the application of automatic brakes on all freight cars law the UK didn't, as the "Big Four" companies (LMS, LNER, GWR, and SR) inherited so many old freight cars which had no brakes other than handbrakes after the grouping act of 1923. It was cheaper to keep the wagons "unfitted" than it was to have them retroactively "fitted" with automatic brakes, so the railway companies simply adapted around them. Different classifications of freight trains and speed restrictions were made entirely based on the ratio of "fitted" to "unfitted" cars on the train and the lower the ratio the lower the speed limit because of lower braking power. "Fitted" cars were always marshalled next to the loco so the driver could operate the brakes while "unfitted" cars were always marshalled to the rear ahead of the brake van (caboose in US terms). In British Railways era (the era modeled in TSW2) all fitted wagons were painted bauxite (like rusty red) while unfitted wagons were painted grey. In your case your train had 8 "fitted" cars (the first 7 cars plus the brake van at the back) and 9 "unfitted" cars meaning 47% of the train was "fitted". That would make you a Class D freight (1 lamp on top of the smokebox in front of the stack and 1 lamp above the left buffer when viewed from the front) and a speed limit of 45mph. You still managed to keep your train under control regardless, so hats off to you, especially in the snow! I'd encourage you to look up British lamp codes and their associated speed limits - it'll add a new dimension of immersion and challenge for you going forward :)

Good to see the Widnes / Runcorn bridge in a sim. The tunnel that you mentioned. As to the pollution, you could smell the area from around 10 miles away as you approached and literally cut the air with a knife, and that was only in the late 80s. My parents used to talk about smog so thick you couldn’t see your hand in front of your face in the 50s. All around that bridge was chemical works that just dumped pollution everywhere. Always knew when we were getting close to my nans who lived in that area her whole life.

Open the cylinder cocks and turn the regulator on 15 or 20 percent and make sure the cut off wheel is in neutral brakes on and it lets pressure and steam out it’s to drop boiler pressure I use it all the time

ok, the reason that there is a mix of electrical and mechanical signals along the route is because, at the time, BR would've been in the middle of the modernization plan to modernize Britain's railways

Their OK sound is a bit muffled. I would like to be able to increase the chuff, chuff sound. Haven't found out where it is located in the code files yet.
