Awesome hearing the spring peepers in the background tonight. Dont be afraid to pause for a listen now and then. A stream talking by day and frogs by night.

Yes, they were very loud. I should have listened a bit more. We have a great light show coming up in a few weeks from our trip to Warren NH and the fireflies. I've never seen so many in one place. We were camped in a field and they put on quite a show. I was able to film them but it didn't do it justice. It was amazing. I've never seen anything like it. Thousands of fireflies glowing at once. We don't have many fireflies left in MA.

@@hipbeeexplorer For 40 years my best friend and I walked our road. Mostly at night. Year round. One summer night down by the brook, Big Brook my kids and I called it, a band of lightning bugs a couple feet or more wide had alighted on the field of ferns that were there then. You could look down at it. Straight across the top of it. Then scootch down and look all the way across the bottom of it. Unbelievable.

I have a few guesses where that secret river is. Years ago on a brook near there I found the rotted remains of an old wood sluice box with an iron pipe that had been used to siphon water to the sluice. There's gold in every brook and river in that part of Maine.

The black fly is not on Maine's endangered species.....not only do they bite, but it stays with you for a week or so. Good thing the black fly season is over, now you can contend with no-see-um's.
