The original video I made about my head injury: • I have a brain injury.

In January 2006 I was hit by a car, when on my bicycle. Coma, brain damage, the whole package. Like you my brain had always been my main feature, and life's been rough since. The main thing is focusing on people around you. If friends and family begin saying “you've changed”, that's very important to do something about. I don't know what. But I know that nobody wanted to stay friends with me, and my family turned their backs too. I hope you don't have to go through anything like that. Louis Theroux did the documentary “A Different Brain”. I'm usually a fan of his, but in this one he only covered the relations of the person with the injury. It's a good case study of how people treat victims of brain damage.

Super glad to hear that man. I lost my father to a brain injury from a concussion 5 years ago. He was in perfect shape but the injury affected his frontal cortex and over the period of a few weeks he became a different person and the equivalent of a severe Alzheimer's case. He was hospitalized right after the accident and he stayed alive for 4 months but his physical shape slowly degraded since he refused to eat. Every single day in his mind he just arrived at the hospital and was going to eat 'a little later' until he eventually died of undernourishment. He had a clause in his will not to persevere with treatment and force feeding was interpreted like that... So yes, take care of your head people, it is more fragile than you think and if you loose the ability to make decisions, someone else will make them for you...

10:35 I had that too. My brain was my biggest power. I didn't have any accidents or anything but since I had some sort of depression, my ability to really think about something complex for more than 10 minutes is almost impossible now. I have no idea how this came about and what is the actual cause. I used to tackle complex problems in no time and found it easy. Now, the most simple jobs are too difficult for me for some reason. Our brain is something we probably will never understand. One day you can do whatever you want with it, the other day it's your greatest bottleneck.

I'm surprised someone like the Discovery Channel doesn't want to pick you up? You are obviously a great host, and you come up with amazing ideas. You need to contact some of the English tv channels, the BBC is always interested in science programs. I would also suggest a weekly/bi weekly podcast talking about engineering/science, if you think you could do that, the knowledge you have for a call-in type show would be great to listen to while walking the dog. Fantastic to see you are back to making videos, and I look forward to throwing my 'like' to them as soon as you post.

I watched your first video on your concussion when it came out, and between the time of that video and this one I had a stroke, completely unexpectedly at the age of 35. It affected my balance and coordination for a couple weeks. At first I could barely stand, but thankfully with time and physical therapy I'm now basically 100% back to normal a month and a half later. This is just to say that having had a brain injury myself put these videos of yours in a new perspective, and I really appreciate you putting these out there. It's amazing how the brain can heal itself, but it's also important for people to know how it affects people, that it can happen to anyone, and it's not something to be taken lightly.

Thank you so much for sharing this story. It is the exact same thing I went through when I suffered an over 1 year long concussion. Nothing really prepares you for the feeling of having lost yourself entirely and beginning to think the you that once was may have ceased to exist. I too was told to stay in a dark room and do breathing exercises, which I did for months, and it served to prolong my concussion. About halfway through my treatment, new studies had come out (thankfully) showing that the better way to recover is to return to life as normal with breaks as needed to allow rest. That combined with plenty of cardio exercise is what helped me return to a semblance of normal. Thank you for posting this story so that others may not have to go through a year or more of post concussion syndrome before they start feeling better. Everything you've said here is something I wish I knew prior to my injury.

I so feel you here, this video resonated with me sooo much! ❤ I've had LONG COVID this year for over 5 months... with the bran fog and I have recovered from it late October and getting medical care was a freaking disaster... they did not know how to treat it and even referred me to a psychiatrist thinking it was "stress"... Your story about how your brain fog symptoms made you feel, especially that part about having your livelihood stripped and the depression that sets in not knowing if you're F*ed for the rest of your life... It brought a tear to my eye seeing clips from the past seeing that, that was EXACTLY what was happening to me... You had a physical thing happen to you, but do you know how hard it was explaining let alone getting people to believe me what was happening? I hope and pray that others see your video and can get the help too!!! Merry Christmas / Happy Holidays and best wishes for your future ambitions!

Treating long covid as stress, that's ridiculous… sorry you're dealing with this. So many people are affected and still so little is known about this disease, if it's even just one disease given the wide range of symptoms. There is research ongoing, but unlike a well-known virus that we had an RNA sequence for very quickly and could target with vaccines, long covid isn't as simple. I hope you're getting better and that all those affected will soon have more options and will be believed and treated accordingly.

I can relate to this so much. I'm finally getting better from Covid brain fog and it's been a long time coming. The stupid thing is there are many studies that detail the exact issues (vascular issues) but the response is sporadic at best. What helped for you the most? For me fasting/reducing inflammation and just time have helped the most.
@raymitchell9736
@raymitchell9736 Жыл бұрын
@@KarkleM Wow... where do I start? There's a few journal articles on this subject, I didn't see vascular issues per se... I did find something that seemed to work for me, although I can't express fully everything in a comment, I started supps that they recommended, such as NAC, etc. and some of my own assumptions that the brain damage repair might need higher levels of Omega-3 DHA/EPA and such... also these are non-toxic and let my body clear the damage. I have my own thoughts what happened, The article in "Metabolites" talks about COVID's damage to the Mitochondria, interrupting the Krebs cycle... I was having no-energy, I would get zapped. I had difficultly breathing, yet my lungs were tested and was fine... etc. NAC recharges glutathione, so I knew that from a MedCram lecture back in 2020 when I had acute long-covid breathing problems oh that sucked! Another thing I'd check for is low potassium... even if it is low, it might not be optimal... I had low levels, but not consider hypokalemia... still it could account for breathing difficulty and brain fog and low energy... maybe the body needs more potassium to combat COVID and the symptoms are a sign of the depletion? That's my own question... Also my LDL was really high 260 and HDL was 56, higher than I normally saw it... I know that the brain is made of Cholesterol, so I think that the body is healing, rebuilding the brain... however, the Docs wanted me on statins ASAP... A side-effect is memory loss and confusion... uh... I've already got that! so I refused, because I know that the body does things for a reason, and while I'm "injured" with Brain-F I didn't want to interfere with that. If you want more info, or you have info to share with me... please... find my channel I do Halloween stuff, subscribe if you like that (LOL) just kidding... anyway, find the ABOUT tab and click below and you'll see my email there... Thanks for sharing your experience with this; I think it's really important. I've been a fan for a long time and glad you're doing so much better!

Really glad to hear that you are doing better finally! As someone also working with my brain and having a hard time using it as I was used to for a couple of months this year, due to long covid, I really get what you mean. I am also happy I can finally work again. ps If you need someone for factory tours or embedded stuff in Europe or somewhere else drop me a line. ;-)

Scott, I just wanted to give you a huge shoutout and compliment for your resilience and determination in overcoming your head concussion. It's no secret that head injuries can be incredibly debilitating, but you've shown true strength in your journey to recovery. I'm so grateful for the team at the clinic who helped you for free - it's amazing to see the kindness and compassion that they showed you during this difficult time. Your recovery journey is a testament to the power of determination and support from loved ones. Your videos have always been a source of inspiration for me, and seeing you bounce back from this injury only solidifies the impact you have on your audience. You are a true role model, and I'm so glad to see you back and thriving. Keep up the amazing work, Scott!

Hi Scotty, I am more or less like you almost every way. One thing you didn't mention Migraine. Yes, timing mess me up, or getting those migraine starting with my eye getting fuzzy then my brain start to hurt, I have the pills to stopped it. It was too much I had to retire early, that was few years ago. I am still doing my electronics, drawing and cad work for 3d printing. I do rest a lot, not quite 12 hours some time. Funny though you have same colour as me. I was in an accident 8 years ago, I lost lower left leg now mostly in a wheelchair. I am getting better but I think 95% up to now, I don't think it be better. I have been supports by doctors and that was last year. I guess maybe to stay as retire for now, I am 61. Happy Christmas to you.

My dad got hit over the back over the head during a mugging and had the a very similar experience. A few years later he started noticing muscle weakness and pains after lots of doctors he was told that he had developed MS because he was genetically at risk already and during the healing process his immune system started attacking his brain. Keep an eye on that. Best of wishes, get well soon.

@@M_Lopez_3D_Artist Multiple sclerosis is considered to be an immune-mediated disease in which the body's immune system attacks the central nervous system (CNS). Most MS experts believe it to be an autoimmune disease, although no specific antigens (proteins that stimulate the immune system) have been identified in MS.-national MS Society org As well as my dad’s neurologist that’s been practicing for 40 years.
