Your penalty for dying is losing your Max MP and getting it reset to 200 (Two bars) from whatever it was. You can get it back though (Before possibly dying again) by finding an orb of red smoke usually right where you died.

In Nioh you could transfer the random bonuses from one item to another, so there were uses for them. Here, all the gear's abilities are basically set. It's just keeping the Nioh drop system even though equipment is way different and simpler now, so that's weird.

Your video has definitely gotten me intrested in the game! I love the cringey dialogue and while I have only played Nioh 1, I thoroughly enjoyed my time with that game!

the inventory limit is still 500, you have 4000 reserves storage that you can move items into at a cube or at the world map, you are able to desyth from both so it shows 4500.

I was very hyped for this game prerelease. Loved the early 2000s edgy Shadow the Hedgehog-like vibe. The first demo was fun for me (no problem) and I love FF games with a class system. They basically made my dream game.

This game is so awesome. I'm having such a blast.

On high level, you can recovery mp by using the special ability on specific jobs. You can build unlimited mp with only 1 s casting is also possible. The fact that you can’t really cheat through bosses aren’t something Soul games tend to have since they don’t use other systems that work to encounter it and you can just break the game for ppl with your build (which will eventually get down to the hill if ppl start to just following one formula of build)

I’ve never played Nioh so I loved the comparison! It all makes so much more sense with that context. I absolutely can’t wait to try this out.

This is the first I heard that a main dev from PS5 Strikers worked on this and that makes so much sense. Very little of the gameplay reminds me of DS games. And it's not as frantic as DMC/Bayonetta, but there's definitely a quick flow to combat.

In my eyes this review was glowing enough to make me pick up the game. A question to anyone who played/are playing it, I saw the review had both English and Japanese voices, which one is better or are they about the same.

Thanks for the loot drop tip. I been enjoying this game. Btw version 1 graphics was buggy with the 500 storage. Now version 1.01 is the better version that smooth out most issues. This game as a whole is good game. Update: 1.02 is alittle let down with online multiplayer infinity moving death loop and collision on area such as the flying fortress sent emenies to the shadow realm. Btw the glitch can only be fix in boss area. Plus some boss do a spawning uplift in some of their animation. When in the loop the player can sometimes move instant kill emenies and can't be revive by potions or save cube. Maybe just that alot of people not having 1.02 or something. Kind of remind me of Tiny Tina new boarderland game.

I love the fact that the first non-FF1 dungeon you go through is the first dungeon in FF14, it feels kinda proper

I had absolute blast with this game. The combat is one of the best in the industry. I was also suprised how the story clicked in the end.

The story was actually way better than most people gave it credit for. Also, anyone that thinks this game is supposed to be taken seriously probably didn't play more than 5-10 minutes of it. I mean, 'Doomslayer figures out that he was actually the demon overlord' is a pretty crazy concept.

I've been busy with work but the small time i spent with the latest demo really pushed me into wanting to buy it once i finish triangle strategy. I'm still surprised it's already out it feels like they just announced it the other day but maybe i just don't follow the right people and news stuff so i missed it's other trailers. Hopefully there is some dlc or they update the game once or twice maybe some non canon boss fights of villians/protags of other ff games

My husband and I play this coop together and I legit cannot imagine playing this solo only. It feels like a COMPLETELY different game. We also realized I can stay whatever character that I want the entire time (Neon obvi) but my husband HAS to be Jack the whole time and host the room. AND I get to basically use his Neon as my "glam"/"transmog" as it's what HIS Neon is wearing, despite me playing as her because TECHNICALLY it's using MY Jack's gear. Unnecessarily clunky but doable I guess. We both like it a lot but wow it has so many things to nitpick.

Am I the only person that watched this whole thing and patiently waited for a thorough take on how the multiplayer influences this games experience playing the story start to finish? Only to be met with, eh I'm not gonna explain it. Kinda disappointed on that front. Edit: if anyone carees I could explain how the multiplayer works and effects the game.

It’s so bizarre seeing an M rated final fantasy game

I bought this game at release and I was so upset how much I unironically loved it but now I just love how stupid and fun it is. I also appreciate how you can completely remap the controls so I adjusted it so it’s more similar to Kingdom Hearts “press X to win” and pushing the big damage stamina button in between. I play with a friend and its a lot better to be honest, even if I have to explain every FF reference to him its so much fun. If you just dont take it too seriously and have fun its so good. Still havent actually finished it but looking forward to it!

Also your point about Doom Eternal doesn’t really line up because “Doomguy” never interrupts gameplay to talk about how much he hates demons. Like yeah he’s one dimensional but HE isn’t really intrusive or the focus of the game itself.

Better to remain silent and be tought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt, that's my opinion on Jack. Also, the fact that Doom guy does not speak and let's his actions do the talking makes a world of difference. Regardless, I really enjoy your videos.

I love this game? like I played the demo and I was like "Okay! this game is actually dope!" it's the first time I didn't just listen to public perception of people saying "it's just final fantasy angry man LMAO!" and gave it a shot and I'm actually waiting for the last dlc to drop this weekend and I'm actually excited! it's challenging without being impossibly hard for me personally. I couldn't beat nioh 2 or bloodborne, but I can play this on normal difficulty and I'm enjoying my time with it! it was the fast paced action game I needed for when I needed that type of stimulation! also I love jack tho?! like I didn't think I would but his dialogue and personality, he's so blunt and straight forward but he's not mean either. edit: side-note, I played nioh 2 as well and I can't even beat the first area in that, but I can play this no problem. so I dunno what that says about this game over that game, or about me as a player~

I started the game after the DLCs came out with like 0 knowledge of it and no expectations. I got the platinum trophy and loved every second of it. The writing is absolutely hands down one of my gulty pleasures i was laughing trought most of the game 😂

Nioh has better level design and end game building with transferable abilities. SOP is still new but combat is good let's hope Team Ninja and Square continues with updates and improvements

My guess is their fix for that first demo was to actually just release a previous, working build, instead of the prepared demo build. Just a big guess tho.

I think Jack stopped became "cringe" to me the moment they tell you that something's messing with his head (and all the other party members) especially after seeing all the flashback/forward. There's a reason why he's like this, and the desire to know is one of the main motivation why you want to keep playing. It's still hilarious mind you when he spouts CHAOS, but I was also curious what makes him like this, the whole black crystal memory shenanigans, etc. Also I'd take "cringe" that's completely honest over the quippy irony dialogues that's been around in all kinds of media recently.

This is the type of game that I should hate on paper but absolutely love in practise. The gameplay is fantastic but even the story is worth it by the end.

I’m happy you mentioned how Jack being excessively obsessed with Chaos was somehow intended. I think they didn’t expect memes to take off like that, but Jack‘s longing to meet Chaos ties pretty nicely to the revelations towards the end of the game in my opinion.

Nioh 2 is my favorite game ever, so stranger of paradise is a fever dream, and I adore it.

I remember when "Give Me Chaos" song kicked in on KZfaq when I was playing this game and I've burst out laughing for how it reminded me of Jack's attitude. X3

I have to say that I like this game alot, but I agree that it could have been much more polished (the lack of a soul matching system for upgrading equipment like in Nioh was dissapointing. That being saud though I love the gameplay, and the cutscenes are really funny (The Litch scene especially😂)

Nioh never punished us for dying. I have 500 hours in Nioh and never lost my Amrita points once. Why? Because I always carried a bunch of Summoner's Candle. You can use this item to recover your lost points from anywhere. Not to mention that you can buy these candles for pretty cheap using Glory points from the hub area. Kill like 3-4 low level phantoms and you will have enough glory points to buy a couple candles. Even better, join a popular clan and rake in thousands of glory points without doing anything. You also find these candles in every mission. You will always have 7-8 of these candles on you before you start any mission. That's more than enough to make sure you never lose your hard earned xp points.

I don't understand Team Ninja's obsession with loot penatas. By the time I finished Nioh I was just so done with the game. I thought it was because the game overstayed it's welcome but now I know is that I was just exhausted by the constant barrage of useless loot and the endless inventory navigation. That loot system is literally the only thing that holds me back from trying this and Nioh 2.

I will get hate, but gameplay wise I am enjoying this more than Elden Ring. I really liked Elden Ring's sense of scale and the anxiety it brought in the beginning, but after awhile it felt like the harders mobs didnt give even exp , so I was forced to find exploits to speed up progression. Also, the last areas really dragged on and the enemies started just cheesing in the end which made it lose a lot of fun factor. I find this game to have the right kind of challenge where I know it's me screwing up and I just have to find the right job setup and dont have to cheese the game.

I like this game for what it is. I can also understand why Final Fantasy fans wouldn’t like this game. I also enjoyed Nioh, so there’s that. Edit to add: the loot system is rough in this game and in Nioh. In both I found myself spending unreasonable amounts of time fiddling with my inventory between missions. I hate the idea that I may dismantle or sell a piece of equipment that is better than what I have or may be useful for a different job soon. Also hate the idea that I may be carrying around something that I should have equipped so my playtime gets heavily bogged down by my own mental barriers

You know, I absolutely LOATHE anything soulslike, including nioh - but when you talked about Jack and his brand of brain damage I immediately knew I have to play this. That level of cringe and idiocy is my vibe :D

The Nioh type of inventory drops I think came from games like Diablo 2 but there's a couple of reasons it worked there better than it does now. First: monsters also dropped gold so you didn't feel bad about leaving a bunch of shitty equipment on the ground because you could just buy what you wanted later. Second: your inventory space was much more limited so deciding what you wanted and what you didn't was easy and quick to do at a glance rather than sifting through multiple different scrolling pages of hundreds of similar items each.

The game does kind of feel like Square Enix kind of lost faith in it. It's technically finished, but definitely feels like it lacks some polish. It feels like they kind of dumped it in the wake of Elden Ring with little fanfare and just decided to wait and see how it did.

How to have absolutely no fun with SoP's combat system: try dodging everything. By default you have little to no I-frames when you attempt to dodge, so unless the move is going to take you completely outside of the attack's hit box, you're always better off parrying. I didn't figure that out until the very final boss (after spending over a hundred hours Dodging-The-World in Elden Ring), and holy crap did it make a big difference. The game wasn't awful, but it still left me with the sense that it had been taken out of the over about three or four months too early. Hopefully the DLC is beefy.

To me, Stranger of Paradise is the best modern Final Fantasy game. The cringe with it's story and presentation is not a bug but a feature, Jack's simplemindedness helps with both the game's story and pacing in just getting straight to the point and not bothering with any of the trivialities like many other FF games tend to do. It also remembers to be a video game as well and not what I would personally call an interactive anime like other JRPGs (I mean, they're still video games, but they're often paced like an anime with how heavily story-based they tend to be). What I think is also forgotten about the first FF was that it wasn't necessarily a story-driven game, but more of an adventure/journey driven one, exploring an unknown yet hostile world that your party found themselves in and they don't know why. On top of your characters being created entirely by you, it was basically Dungeons and Dragons, The Game, not counting that the concept of Bahamut being a dragon king and not a giant fish IRL mythology was something taken from D&D.

As someone who has played Nioh and Nioh 2 an unhealthy amount, I can say from experience that, yes, the equipment only starts becoming useful in the endgame, by which I mean the hardest difficulty and the Abyss. In Nioh you eventually start unlocking a new tier of equipment that has new and crazy set bonuses, along with brand new armor and weapon effects. You can then start configuring your armor to offer you complete negation of ranged attack damage. Or you can reconfigure your character to be a complete unarmed beast. Or you can supercharge your own ranged weapons or magic. You even get access to gimmick builds that use the consumable items that basically become useless after the first New Game cycle, like a +5000% damage bonus to Rocks. All the mechanics at the blacksmith the game throws at you in New Game start actually getting used, and they are all pretty useful. There's definite criticisms to be had about locking all this cool shit behind 3 or 4 playthroughs of the game, but if you like the combat of Nioh as much as I did, its not really something you hold against the game.

This game seems like a cross of Nioh, FFI, FFIII, Dissidia. Nioh in combat, FFI in plot, FFIII in the job system and it seeming like certain jobs aren't options but answers, and Dissidia in the team based RPG combat happening in real time.

I agree that the opening is just odd, also, I noticed they mentions that their was supposed to by *4* warriors of light, which makes me think that Jack, Ash, and Jed aren’t the true warriors of light, and that something else is going on, ESPECIALLY with Jack, he just seems odd.

The game has really good strong points and really annoying problems. I enjoyed it a lot, and will most likely play it again eventually.

The attack combo customization almost feels more... Dynasty Warriors / Musou than anything. But it's neat that like, your weapons are almost a secondary progression mechanic from Jobs.

I always saw the Nioh games as spiritual successors of the Ninja Gaiden with Soulslike elements.

I love and hate this game for being simpler than Nioh but still have a good time. This story is so cringe and its been so fun to watch and have a good laugh with a couple drinks in hand lol At the end of the day I look at this as the game to hold me over for a little bit till the next true Nioh style experience. Team Ninja need to step it up.

In terms of the loot issue, the game added an auto-dismantle option that lets you sell equipment below a certain level after missions. You do have to go into settings every new mission to update the level of equipment you want to get rid of, but overall, it greatly reduces stress over inventory management.

The loot system isn't from Nioh, but from MMO, sifting through them is a pain but it is part of the gameplay loop, those of you who played DIablo, Phantasy Star or -insert your own RPG Online here-, know exactly what I am talking about, the thing about it is you're supposed to take in strides between gaming sessions, rest a little from the combat and look through your items while "taking a break" and I admit, it is a drag, worse than that is that, rarity really doesn't mean much unless you're talking about the extremes, Nioh for example, the whites are thrash and the Oranges are God tier, but that doesn't mean rarity 4 or 3 will not ever yield something useful! My advice? I haven't played this but if Nioh trends are true, don't hold anything dear untill you reach the NG+, Item sets, regardless of rarity, can make or break a tough fight, once you have the eyes on a playstyle suits your fancy the only thing you should be doing is replacing the stuff you use for higher rarity and selling anything from the bottom tier as they don't give you anything of note when dissassambled, oh and also save your Gil, because as soon as you complete your set, upgrading it will leave you in the poor house, it will devour your money, again i can only speak in Nioh terms but many times i had to sell the highest tier of equipment i was getting in order to upgrade my gear.

I think jacks uncaring one track mind works really well considering hes Garland, the main villain of FF1 and these traits kind of foreshadow that development into said villain

I super struggled with the combat in this game but your video helped heaps. I still had to drop down to story mode and kept dying left and right (I just could never get the timing of blocks/parties down in 30+ hours… and I finished and loved sekiro?!?!) but I had fun in the end.

Man I absolutely DESPISE the way your side teammates comment on the battles. Feels like if I don't do it perfectly they bemoan how absolutely horrible we were at that fight and how we barely survived.

I love ARPGs like Diablo 2 and Path of Exile, so the loot system in Nioh is one of my favorite things about it. However I do acknowledge that just like in PoE, most of the loot is just noise until you complete the campaign.
