The only samovar I ever saw was at Madonna House, Combermere, Ontario, Canada -- a Catholic lay organization founded by Russian Baroness Catherine de Hueck Doherty along Tolstoyan lines. The Baroness was a very strong woman, like a peasant. Her father had been a diplomat, and they had to leave Russia at the time of the revolution. The samovar wasn't used for tea anymore, more of a large antique really. I had a Labrador dog too -- they are beuutiful pets! Thank you for sharing your time with us.

In our country, lipton twinning are really unpopular because it taste horrible and expensive as heck..while we usually have traditional tea leaves (usually jasmine tea and black tea in java, black tea, chai and spice/herbal tea in sumatra and borneo, in the east too), usually accompanied with sugar rock or brown sugar. Bagged tea often insulted as "cheap/ stickler/frugal tea", eventough our tea maker have very high quality bagged teas😂😂😂

It is a shame that inherited items of this kind have largely gone from western family life. Today we live too much in a disposable throw-away world. And it's excellent that Alex and Valeria still use the Samovar, rather than it just sitting on a display shelf. 8) I will confess that I just use tea bags (Twinings Earl Grey), I think I'm too lazy to do otherwise. :}

@mapesdhs597

:D It's normally expensive, 5 UKP per box, but I only ever buy it when it's on special offer, usually half-price, then I buy as many boxes as are on the shelf. 8) I used to drink sweet tea, but that was a long time ago, eventually I stopped. Alas I've never taken to coffee; sometimes I don't mind the smell (though coffee shops are way too strong for me), but I've never liked the taste. My brother though likes all sorts of fancy coffees. I have a large mug. Only thing better than a cup of tea is a BIG cup of tea. :D Well, that and *strong* tea; if it can disolve a spoon then it's about ready. One time I asked my mother if she'd like a cup of tea, but I made her coffee instead, she was so confused, hehe. Funny how she was so expecting it to be tea, she didn't recognise it as coffee straight away. Our taste buds lie to use sometimes. That btw is why I stopped taking sugar in tea eventually, I found that without it, I could taste the tea better. When I started university in 1987 I decided to be sensible and economical, so I bought a catering bag of 1000 teabags (ordinary Tetley, something I'd never have today, cheap stuff). It did last ages. Another time after cycling 30 miles, I returned home and made a bucket of tea (medium size new/unused bucket); a dozen teabags, two kettles of water, loads of sugar (this was long ago) and a pint of milk. :D I sat in the lounge, tired but content. Whenever I visit a castle, I buy a tea mug with a picture or logo of the castle if they have one. I have a shelf with 16 of them now. Ahh, tea stories. I'm so British. :D

I also buy in bulk whenever I see a good deal, I have a lot of stock all over the house. lol I don't drink a lot of fancy coffee's but my wife does enjoy some of those every once in a while. I just like the regular Folgers or the Black Rifle Coffee blend that is an online shop.

Very wise! I just checked btw, I have 27 boxes of Earl Grey, not 20. :D Naturally, it's best to buy bulk for things that don't go off, so the other bulk items I have stored away are medium egg noodles (15 packets) and pot noodles (about a dozen, good for winter if the power goes out). Last week I saw jars of mango chutney half-price, so I bought six.

I have to say 'Thank you' for sharing your Life and what it is like living in Russia! I have watched many of your videos!.... I live in South Africa.... (but was born in Hungary)... A number of years ago...I had the pleasure of hosting two young Russian students who had come to visit our country as guests of the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. My husband offered them accommodation for a week and it was our pleasure to have them here in a cottage we have on our property. I enjoyed their company and am happy to still be in contact with them via fb and messenger. I am a lover of all things related to Tea and the Victorian era...so was very happy to have seen exactly how you prepare the water in the Samovar.... very interesting to me.... and I shall be sharing it on my FB page... 'The Victorian Lady's Parlour'..... for the education and enjoyment of other Ladies who would also like to know more about this unique kettle!

I did not know that there were wood-fired samovars, but I suppose that there must have been. I'm sure that Russians have been drinking tea for much longer than there has been electricity. You probably know this, but those mineral deposits in the part of your samovar where the water goes can be easily removed. Just pour in some white vinegar and let it sit for a couple of hours, and then they are easily scrubbed off. Perhaps you prefer to leave the deposits, it may affect the flavor of your tea. What do I know about tea? I am a coffee drinker. ;-)
