These kinds of runs are why we need a save and quit option! Other roguelites have the ability to pause runs, we really need it here too

The only runs that are actually unwinnable are the runs where an elite beetle spawns right next to you at the very beginning as acrid and they kill you before your spawning animation ends

I very much appreciate this kind of tutorial, because it's not just a highlight reel - it's an act of solidarity with everyone who's ever been cursed by RNGesus. Many of us struggle to get god runs most of the time - but we all know the sting of a copium run. So this kind of video legitimately addresses a problem I've long struggled to solve. Now that I feel empowered to break out of this cycle, I want to play again. Thank you. 🙂

I've been playing ror2 since the beta, but only after I ran into your videos did I push past playing on drizzle, which I thought was a crazy achievement at the time. Your patience and educational approach shines in videos like this; they are the reason I'm about to dip my toe into eclipse runs, so thank you so much for all that you bring to this game!

I actually didn't know that hitting 99% on a tp halts enemy spawns. That'll help a lot in the future since I always thought that sometimes situations like your stage 4 are just a lost cause.

Excellent stuff, the voiceover and visual aids really added a lot to this and expanded on a lot of things that it can be difficult to go into detail with when you're dodging that much shit and just trying your damndest to stay alive

Thank you! I’ll definitely try to remember to be more patient when the copium hits and take the time to survive and not get too scared when the level is full of enemies and I can’t clear them before the next wave arrives. I’m not great at this game, but every run is a little adventure, and even when I lose, I usually have something to be proud of, like a void seed in an awkward location that I managed to clear. It’s even better when I know I had to work for it and that I did it because of my skills, not just the items.

My friend just clued me in to this game after all this time so this video comes at a great time (my last run of last night was him killing everything and me waddling to my death at half speed bc I picked up a lunar item when I didn’t know any better)

I love the 99% mechanic. Inherently, it just makes it so that no matter how horrible your rng is, you will always have a fighting chance. Every survivor's base mobility should be enough to kite enemies if you play it well, though it might not be easy. Probably the only way to truly screw yourself over is with something like Stone Flux Pauldron, which cuts your mobility. Either way, love the video, keep doing what you're doing Race, you're amazing at it.

Absolutely legendary This kinda mirrors my choice in weapons in games being more sustained fire, while big chunks of damage feels good why not just shoot it more? Miniguns are a fave of mine whenever they pop up

I think your biggest mistake was not taking that Jade Elephant on Stage 3. That thing along with Power Mode is insane. You could've used Jade Elephant + your utility to proc bands and Power Mode right after to M1 + M2 safely and doubling (at least) your damage by actually using the Saw.

Some of my favorite copium runs are when I'm on arty and I get syringes. A lot of syringes. Then the fabled watch printer shows up, or atg/uk trade in bazaar. so much fun, i have literally never used the quit to menu button and never will :)

This Pluripotent Larva use felt like an anime trope, something like "You have awakened my inner power, now I will Go Beyond!" A shonen with a janitor robot as a protagonist quite a lot of struggling. Very nice.

I’m awful in these situations so this was cool to see.

Oh, this reminded me of a run I had yesterday. I was merc, purity run, and while I physically was not able to die, my dps was basically zero. I barely made it to the stage 5, where I committed heresy, I entered sacrifice artifact code. That gave me enough boost to beat 6th stage, although barely. Entering lunar bazaar, I was blessed. I took glass, and 1-2 of an item that doubles your hp, basically making glass no down-side (Except for no osp). And bazaar had behemoth cauldron, that gave me enough power to complete void fields. The reward was a cultist knife. After that I stomped, finally gathering enough power. Morale? Loops are op, nland purity early game is poo poo. Also I got two icbms this run, and never found a rocket item. :(

One thing i have noticed for myself is that i lose almost all of my runs whenever im playing commando, huntress or artificer. And everyone else (excluding rex, merc and acrid due to never picking them) i win sometimes (not that i expect to win every run ofcourse). Also thought i recognised weight of the world during the mithrix fight. Though that being said i have only listen to a certain cover of it but either way its great.

I always play with the "Raise Monster Level Cap" mod since i feel too overpowered compare to the monster even on a mid run, but this video might gonna make me turn that mod off

I honestly feel that dying intentionally right after getting all those ukuleles would have been a higher risk, but also more optimal play, but playing it safe is totally understandable. A great showcase of how even the worst of runs can be spun around.

I just got this game and wish I had sooner, it’s hard to find an online game.

So, to summarize: - Ideally, don't let it *become* a copium run in the first place. Don't waste time. But when you've just been dealt a bad hand... - Once you've already been outscaled, take your time. Rushing into danger may just get you killed. Play it safe, and take your time collecting money to try and get items to edge you back towards winning. - If the stage boss is unmanageable, you can focus on charging the teleporter. Once it reaches 99%, enemies will stop respawning. This will let you chip away at the monsters until you, eventually, succeed. - Once you reach stage 5, looping isn't a bad idea if you don't see yourself being able to survive Pillars and Mithrix. (Feel free to leave additional tips or corrections in the comments)

Copium runs are rare for me because usually if I don’t have a good loadout I just end up dead (: Though I just had one where I had like no damage on rallypoint delta so I hit the order shrine and ended up with 15 drinks and 6 chronobaubles as huntress but with even LESS damage. Still beat the stage by luring Magma Worm teleporter bosses into the water, killing them, but got bored after that.

Race, who do you think the easiest to climb eclipse with? I've been finding success on a few different survivors. Acrid was the first i found to be not as harsh, but now that I have learned Mercs skill set a lot better i feel the climb with him wont be so hard. I wanted to get your take on who you thought was easiest.

tbh, seems like your playstyle could have gotten in the way here? you could have had a much smoother stage four if ASAP you suicided for pluripotent larva + printed all ukes after you first saw the uke printer. not tryna hate or anything, i'm a big admirer of your skill, just wondering if there was a bit too much stubbornness against the pluripotent larva haha

honestly technically and theoretically any roguelike is winnable even with terrible or no items, they're just balanced around the idea that you get "good enough" items, which is why some runs feel lost like this
