What a performance! This is an astonishingly good transcription for organ of a very difficult piece of music for an orchestra. Each time I listen to it I hear unexpected nuances that I hadn't heard before. Bravo!!

Happily, besides the organ was removed from Zurich Tonhalle, it will be available again in 2020 in Slovenia. The church where it’s going to be installed is called “Zupnija marijinega vnebovzetja” and the installation will be supervised by Jean Guillou

no, he used the replay system of the Kleuker organ, a couple of voixes were recorded first, then , on top of the organ playing by a VHS cassette replay system, Haas plays the rest of the voices live

@@Eli-nn3td he used the replay system, back in the day it was a VHS recorder driven one, I used it myself for my CD recording on the same organ. The score is for 2 organists and can by no means be played all at once. You seem to be not that well informed, as Bernhard Haas is an ex studies colleague of mine at the Guillou Master Classes

@@jean-jacqueskaselorganreco6879 Well, I do not know.... Bernhard Haas created his own transcription and played it (once) live at the Stuttgart University years ago. Enough students and professors have heard this. He would definitely be able to play it himself. However, this transcription is unofficial because the Stravinsky heirs only accepted the 2 piano player version. But it exists...

@@treibhaus8088 I know all this, as I am a student colleague of Bernhard at the Guillou Masterclasses.This recording was made with half the text recorded on the replay of the Tonhalle organ and he played the second part of the score on the running replay.You can be 100% sure that I know what he did, as we talked a lot about and he prepared actually parts of the work together with Maître Guillou. So I DO know

What a sad loss. Apparently the expert committee found the instrument to be unsuitable and insufficient. As they always do when someone wants a new toy. I guess they want something easy going, something with that generally beautiful lack of character so popular these days.

I (and not only) think that it was a political decision... or a stage play, if you prefer. The previous organ was built by Kleuker and Steinmeyer (both German). By mere chance, the new organ will be built by a well known Swiss organ maker...

I think the official version of the story is that while this organ was (and is) a great solo instrument, it did not blend with the sound of the orchestra. IIRC the complaints were like "there are only two usable stops with the orchestra" etc. Whether this is true or not I don't know.

It's interesting, and very good for an organ transcription. But, even more than with the piano four hands written by Stravinsky, a keyboard interpretation of course can't capture the percussion.
@karlrovey
@karlrovey 3 жыл бұрын
That would require a theatre organ or US style town hall symphonic instrument (which would also have percussion).

Both the Michael Tilson Thomas/Ralph Grierson two piano recording and the Rex Lawson realization of the pianola version capture the percussion pretty well.
