This song is loaded with references to other Bonds. "Blow me a kiss" - The spy who loved me, (Anya's cigarette scene) Lived and loved and surely let die - straight reference to Live and Let Die. "You're alive when looking death in the eye" - Refers to You only live Twice and A view to a Kill "We've got all the time in the world" - OHMSS Even "I shall use my time" was included in a Fleming novel before it was used in No Time To Die.

It's pretty hard to top Garbage's track (one of the all-time best Bond themes IMO), but this song is a legit banger in its own right. It's better (and more Bond-like) than many of the official theme songs from other Bond movies.

Anyone catch the references to the novel You Only Live Twice? 'You know that you're alive/when looking death in the eye' is the poem Bond writes while palling around with Tiger, and the line 'I shall use my time' is taken from his obituary in the book.

Agreed. Garbage's song is the best but this one is also great in its own right. I feel like if this band had been more famous they could have produced an amazing theme for Die Another Day (instead we got that awful, quasi-techno disaster from Madonna).

To my ears, this is a good prototypical Bond song. Play it on piano and get Adele to sing it. A lot of the "second place" entries were too far off the mark, but this one is totally Bond.

Despite of many people hate this movie I found it really great and entertaining. TWINE was great Action/Adventure movie. Pierce Brosnan was OK. Sophie Marceau (Elektra King) was definitely one of the most beautiful Bond Girls. She was a villain but you really feel sorry for her death. Garbage's theme song wasn't the best soundtrack I've ever heard but was definitely one of the most memorable Bond themes.

It's an underrated Bond movie for sure. Solid plot, good action and pacing, great villains and music. Biggest problem was the horrible miscasting of Denise Richards as a nuclear physicist (LOL).

As much as I adore Garbage I've always preferred this song and think it would have been great in the film. I loved Straw. They were an excellent band who deserved to make it big but it wasn't to be. I went to see them live at the Fleece in Bristol and they were so good.

While I love Garbage's The World is Not Enough for how embedded into the movie's theme it is, I love this because it's so embedded into the series. Just all of this down below: "Killing a friend and loving a spy" - Goldeneye and Spy Who Loved Me respectively "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" Shirley Bassey's cut song from Thunderball "Lived and loved, and surely let die." of course Live and Let Die "You're alive when looking death in the eye" -You Only Live Twice and A View to a Kill, respectively The whole verse of petals in white dress falling out ending with We've got all the time in the world is of course On Her Majesty's Secret Service I love this song for these, plus it's just a good song that I wouldn't have minded being used if not Garbage's TWINE

Love the whole verse (2:35) thats a reference to Tracys death in On Her Majestys Secret Service. Considering how many references to on her majestys secret service in the world is not enough film this song would have been better at the start.

I agree. I didn’t even notice that whole verse was a reference to OHMSS. I think my other favorite lines in the song is “I’ve lived and loved and surly let died”. I have to be honest, I prefer this song to the one used in the movie. I just appreciate how much time this band put into referencing several different Bond films.

I think overall I still prefer the Garbage theme but this one is awesome in its own right. How did this band not get famous?

@@drrockkso8882If this film was the last movie of the franchise which started with Sean Connery ( it's the same Bond ) instead of " Die Another Day " then this song wouldn't have been just ideal but also the ultimate send off and love letter to the OG version of Bond before the reboot with Craig.

I like Garbage's theme much better. Everything about it is Bondish. The best rejected theme has to be Quantum of Solace. Its far better than the original by jack white and alicia keys.

KD Lang's Surrender is also good. Albeit it was used in the end credits; however, it was suppose to be the opening credits song but the producer chose Sheryl Crow because she had more star power.

Fantastic song!! It's much better than the one by Garbage (theirs was okay). t sounds more Bondy, and they reference OHMSS with "we got all the time in the world", which works as "the world is not enough" was taken from OHMSS

After hearing this I can see why the studio rejected it. This song is okay, but doesn’t sound Bondlike enough. The instrumental music in this song is good, but the singing voice is below par and definitely inferior to Shirley Manson’s singing voice.
