You said this was the first time you'd heard something live from Ren! What have you been listening to, lol? :) Most of his stuff is recorded live, both voice and music, at once and done in a single take. No autotune. No live production effects and minimal production afterwards. It's sort of his thing. :) Hi Ren, the 3 parts of Jenny and Screech (including Violet's Tale), Money Game, Sick Boi, both his songs featuring Chinchilla - Chalk Outlines and How to Be Me etc etc. Even most of his rap tracks are recorded with him rapping and performing live, single take, including tracks such as The Hunger and Genesis. Though obviously the music isn't live in the rap tracks. All his busking is recorded live, obviously, as is 95% of The Big Push's output. There are exceptions, of course but most of his tracks are performed and recorded live, in a single take. That rawness and understated production are part of what makes him stand out. It's real. Real voice, real instruments, live. :)

Ren filmed this up in Calgary Canada where he's been for treatment. His boy Sam who films almost all of his videos except for the animated videos and Animals flow, but Sam was there for a while and they filmed alot. Ren is back in the UK for a month doing more filming and yesterday was in his hometown back in Whales and gave a check for 21,000 pounds to the volunteer organization that was out immediately looking for Joe after he jumped and kept looking for him for days. All the proceeds were from his last song, su!cide Then he met with Joe's parents for the first time in 12 years and gave them 8,600 pounds also from the money made from the song. He played them this song, For Joe, said they all cried and hugged. His parents were besides themselves because they've been saving up for a camper van they wanted to name Joe and travel all over the UK and with that money they can finally afford it. He posted news clips from his visit and also bugged people out because in one news interview he was speaking Welsh and people were so confused lol

I agree. He is is realising he has survived, or is surviving, his grief. That it’s ok to live without Joe. Losing an age peer so beloved at a young age, no matter how, breaks you in different ways than losing that peer at older and older ages I think.

The part about being late references the fact that a mutual friend called him at 3 in the morning to tell him that Joe was on the bride and calling people they knew to say goodbye. Ren lived about a five minute run from the bridge. Ren was calling him on his cell the whole way there and he was getting a busy signal. Ren thought that was a good sign, that he was still on the phone with people. But about two minutes out from the bridge, instead of getting a busy signal he got an out of service signal. He believes that is the moment Joe jumped. By the time he made it to the bridge, there was no sign of Joe (the tranquility when he looked down). In addition, he saw Joe two nights before. Joe had just been through some bad breakups. He made an offhand remark about being gone, but played it off as a joke. So Ren feels/felt that he failed Joe twice. For not taking him seriously and for not getting there on time. I think he knows logically that it is not his fault in either case. But it still weighs on him. As others mentioned, there are parts of other songs in here. The first lyrical segment was the second half of Su!c!de. Technically, that part was not originally part of that song. That song was supposed to be about his own struggles with thoughts od ending it during his struggles with treatment. He had already written Su!c!de and it was at the animation studio getting ready for release, basically finished. He said the song never felt finished. After an interview with Know Hill where he ended up talking about Joe, he sat down at the piano and wrote those lines, recorded some footage of himself, and had the studio add it to the video. In addition to that song, he took a couple lines and ideas from his song Dominoes in the second lyrical part. The third lyrical part takes themes from Freckled Angels (which was the song he wrote about Joe , who had a lot of freckles, less than year after he passed - some 12 years ago). The fourth and final lyrical part is the chorus from Freckled Angels. So the two ends of the songs are completely taken lyrically from other songs. And the middle two sections are new lyrics using ideas from previous songs.
