Thanks so much for your reaction to Elvis (Jan. 8, 1935-Aug. 16, 1977). Elvis was born on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi, in a 2 room shack of a house his dad built with money he borrowed from his boss. That's how dirt poor they were. He was one half of identical twins; the other boy - Jesse Garon - was stillborn. They were so poor, that Jesse Garon was buried in a shoebox in an unmarked grave. At Graceland they have a plaque with his name on it in his memory. Elvis always got along with the black community and learned a lot about music from his friends of color. Also, according to the one drop rule, Elvis would not be considered white, since he has Cherokee ancestors on both the Smith (his mother) and the Presley (his father) sides of the family. His paternal grandfather, Jesse Dunning Presley, was not happy that his two sons, Elvis' father Vernon and his brother Vester, married two sisters, Gladys and Clettes who were known to have Cherokee blood in their family tree. J.D. Presley was quite the racist a-hole, often drunk and a philandering husband to Minnie Mae (they were actually separated long before they finally divorced in 1954) who was always competing with his sons Vester and Vernon and who was known to abuse his kids when drunk. J.D. was was publicly against race mixing and was in denial about the Cherokee blood in his own family tree. It was more publicly known that the Smith family had Native blood in their family tree, so when both his sons fell for 2 Smith sisters and Vernon, on top of that, was still a minor at 17 when he eloped with Gladys who was 4 years older than him, Jesse was totally pissed off. As a child, Elvis already had many friends in the black community at the time his family was one of 4 "white" families that lived in the predominantly black neighborhood The Hill, just across from Shake Rag. His childhood friend Sam Bell said that some of the (black) kids in that neighborhood had lighter skin than Elvis (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gth2dtx_sty-h58.html). One of Elvis' bodyguards once said that he thought it was a miracle Elvis got into Humes High School in Memphis, because it was "lily white". Elvis wanted to be more open about his Native ancestry, but his manager "colonel" Tom Parker (real name Andreas van Kuijk) was against it because he was afraid it might cost Elvis fans (and himself money). They did have Elvis play characters in his movies though where he had Native American blood (Flaming Star, G.I. Blues, Stay Away Joe). Once Elvis had his own (apprentice) job learning to be an electrician, he saved up his money and bought his clothes in the same style that many of his friends of color wore. He was called a (forgive me, just stating facts here) "n-lover" and got beaten up several times too. Later, when he was an established star, he would not perform at places where the members of color of his back-up band/orchestra weren't allowed.

No they have the suit in Gracelands museum as I saw it in February this year and it was the actual one from this concert and if you ever go it is mesmerising and really touches you in the soul I have been a fan for 43 years and going to see his house in Memphis was bsolutely brilliant but the one where he was born in tupelo was really depressing as. Shows what he and s family went through.

My mother is also the reason I fell in love with Elvis, RIP to them both, and since Elvis recorded over 600+ songs I doubt I could guess correctly but I'll go with Never Been To Spain. My personal favorite is Love Me followed by Trouble, Jailhouse Rock, and after that it depends on whatever is going around and around in my head. Someone just asked me what kind of music I liked and I just said, "Elvis." Music begins and ends with Elvis and in more ways than most would ever realize!

Gospel, rock, R&B, blues, country..........Elvis was the only performer ever to perform and chart in all of these genres. Once he was drafted in 1958, his image was intentionally moved toward the mainstream, and focused on his movies while completely ceasing live performances. The 1968 comeback special shown here proved, right at the Beatles peak, that Elvis still had it all. The special topped the Nielsen ratings on tv, and upon DVD release in 2004 [thirty five years later, was certified multi-platinum internationally. This performance reflected his raw talent, and harkened back to his roots in a way that was really never duplicated during his more highly produced Vegas and touring live career during the 70's.

I remember the very day that Elvis past in 77. I was by myself at home. It was Sommer Vacation, and I was watching television ,(gilligans island) the show was interrupted for a emergency broadcast. That evening i listened to his records and sang along all night. Saw him preform at Wing Stadium, Mi. Visited Graceland. Before the indoor tours. Then yrs later, A crazy moment I experienced was in Vegas at the Luxor. While playing craps, I looked up, shook my head making sure I wasn't drunk and saw Lisa Marie & Marilyn Manson & Charles Fleischer(voice of Rodger Rabbit) playing a few tables away. No one else was playing with them. I was Star stricken and chickend out of my chance to roll the dice with such a unique Trio! However, I got one of those 15mins and shot Craps with Twiggy Ramirez. !

Elvis was actually very nervous about this performance as it was his first time in front of a live audience for 10 years because of being away for 2 years in the Army in Germany and then another 8 years only making movies. Listen to You’ll never walk alone ….. a big difference to the Liverpool FC Anthem. Also Bridge over troubled waters, Love me tender, Can’t help falling in love with you, Trouble, he recorded over700 songs, more then Michael Jackson and the Beatles added together!! Love seeing you bring Elvis to yet another generation of young fans. 👌💕🕺

I had never believed it when my professor in college, both a musicologist and professional symphony musician, himself, told me that he viewed Elvis Presley to be the greatest overall singer of all time. "Why?," "What the hell?," so many of us said? With him first going on to ask what's Frank Sinatra's greatest and/or signature song? "My Way," someone eventually said and then the professor proceeded to show us various polls from over the years which listed Sinatra as the greatest singer ever. Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin were also on top of some, and Elvis, too, on a few. But the point of the exercise was to simply show us Sinatra was considered by many, though it's subjective, to be the greatest. The class then listened to Sinatra's "My Way," and then Elvis' version, back to back. With the room being roughly split as to whose version was better, "which proved what I thought?" But then the professor showed us Elvis rocking out to 'Trying to Get to You' from the Elvis 1968 Comeback Special. With the point ultimately being that regardless of whose version of 'My Way" you preferred, Elvis was right there, totally at home playing in Sinatra's backyard for lack of better parlance. But as to Sinatra playing in Elvis' backyard, he said, it couldn't be done, as he said "[i]magine Sinatra, (who he totally loved) trying to do that rock number?" Then going on to say that he had found no singer who had ever sang more genres, more majestically, than Elvis, & he challenged us to find out for ourselves by looking at his full catalogue of Rock, Pop, Soul, Country, Ballads, Gospel and more. And, when done, I admit I became a convert who was so, so doubtful, at first, I can't even begin to tell you. But from rocking out to 'Trying to Get to You' from that Elvis 1968 Comeback Special, to singing about the dream of humanity coming together with "If I Can Dream," from the same show, I believe you will see what I mean. Elvis even had a voice that could be operatic if you go and listen to 'Hurt' and his version of "You'll Never Walk Alone" will tell you why he has also sold more gospel records than anyone, as well as just tons more, overall. But, with pop and 'Such A Night' to a ballad such as 'They Remind Me Too Much of You,' he did it all, and so, so damn well. While for soul, check out 'Long Black Limousine' or 'You're Wearin' That Loved on Look' which is a bit of another number. Because as Elvis' one album cover says, there's 'Something for Everybody.' Also, and if ultimately you don't think Elvis is the best, that's totally cool as there really is something for everyone!;-) Great channel and I wish you the best!!! ~ Christopher Tyler P.S. Those recommendations are only, quite literally, the beginning!

46 years after his death, people are still calling Elvis the King of Rock'n'Roll, but he didn't like that title, he believed that the only king was God and he actually told this to his fans several times, he said: I believe that God is the only true king. I think that Elvis is and only the king of Rock'n roll, he is the king of music because he can sing very well in any genre, but what do you think, is he good enough to be called a music king? Elvis was really in my mind, the King of GOSPEL and other music, no one does it better then him, he is best known for making Rockn roll famous, so he was called The King of Rockn roll, but he never liked that people called him that. He repeatedly stopped fans who said that he was the king of rock'n roll, telling them: I'm just an entertainer and singer, God is the only true King!! Elvis was born in the poor parts of Tupelo Missisippi and it was mainly Afroamericans living there, at the place where Elvis family lived there only lived 3 more white familys, the rest was colored people, his family was dirtpoor until he became an artist after singing in a mainly colored peoples church during his childhood. Did you know that he had several friends that where Afroamericans, one of his friends where James Brown, yes THAT James Brown (The King of Soul), another artist was B.B King, yes that B.B King... He also was a good friend with Mohamed Ali, yes the GREATEST boxer of all time, he even had a Robe made for him, but it was to much bling on it so Ali wouldn't where it more then one time to a fight. He really admired Martin Luther King very much, Elvis felt that all people are equal, unfortually he never got to meet him, that would have created to much problems for both of them at that time. He had several medical problems, Glaucoma, (Insomnia) sleeping, irritable bowel syndrome, things that affected his real life and made him need medication to function. Yes, he took medicines that today are considered to be called drugs, but at that time doctors prescribed it to him and to ordinary people, they did not know of the problems it could give people (side effects). He never took any so-called street drugs, but unfortunately he did not realize that those medications would be a problem for him, he thought that they where ordinary medicine because his doctor prescribed them to him and to everyone else that needed it. Many of his relativs died at a relatively young age, so even if he wouldn't have the medication, he might have died at about the same age. He could never be alone and thus himself, at that time the word superstar did not exist, so nothing could prepare him for that kind of life. Did you know that a big group of white poeple actually smashed his records and wanted to ban his music, just because they called it so called N... music, that is so painfun to think that some people actually can think like that, skincolor is just color and nothing more, when will people realise that? There are some videos of when Elvis joking and messing up, he loved to joke around and pretend that he did not have control, but he had total control, he acctually conducted his musicans and back up choirs all the time ! He is the only person to have 2 records gone to sell Gold and 2 to to sell Platinum since he died. Elvis is also in almost every genre of Music Hall of Fame (5 that I'm sure of Rock 'n' Roll, Country, Gospel, Rockabilly and Rhythm and Blues), if Gospel is a genre in Music Hall of fame, then he should be in there to, but no one else is in more then perhaps 2 genres. Not bad for someone who never took a single singing lesson, yes he sang in church so perhaps he learned a little there, right? Something else that people tend to overlook: He always conducts his musicans and backup singers, he never gets credit for being able to do that. Imagen you are a singer, you have great musicans, you have great backup singers, no Guest Artists, no Autotune, no Lipsinging and no Fireworks, now all is about your skill, could you handle that pressure? At the time when Elvis started, then Autotune did not exist yet and when it became availible, then he still did not use it, he did not need to, he always sang so that you could hear every word that he sang, the Fans always felt that he sang to just you ! That is what Elvis did in over 1600 concerts (during his 20 years as an artist), despite having problems with his health, like his Glaucoma, the headlights must have hurt his eyes like crazy. He sang over 800 songs, I wonder how he could remember them all, he never vrote a song himself, so he had to remember other peoples lyrics, well that is amazing in it self. By the way he had Glucomea and that must have been difficult being in the headlights all the time, that could be why he sometimes closes his eyes, but also sometimes squinting ! This unfortually made him temporary blind after the shows, that is why they led him of the stage and into his car, that is something that not many people knew about Elvis. Elvis suits was made of 100% Polyester, or 100 cotton (I'm not sure witch one), it was originally a karate suit, it was very light, but it was hot, so it made him sweat a lot, he got some bad press about that, but if you give it all then you will sweat, it should be positive, right? About the deep basevoice JD Sumner (a member of The Stamps Quartet) he is the Basso Profundo, I think it's called that, it is the deepest base singer there is. A video about him helping others, look at this: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/edh6ZMZq2dORc2Q.html Elvis made a show where all the money went to build the Memorial after Pearl Harbour, he talked to the nations about taking the Poliovaccin, Elvis took the first injection himself, he helped by donating a big amount of money to St Jude hospital, they fight against cancer (especially children with), he also gave away juwelery, gave away cars, he even gave away some houses to total strangers. Elvis started an organization that helps people to get out of Homelessness (Presley Charitable Foundation), this organization helps people even now close to 50 years after he passed away. A thing that you perhaps did not know: Elvis ALMOST NEVER did a show OUTSIDE OF USA, yes he did sing a few times in Canada: 4 concerts, 2 in Toronto, 1 in Ottowa and 1 time in Vancouver (during the 50:s?). When the Aloha From Hawaii (Live in Honolulu 1973) was showed it had 1.5 Billion viewers from around the whole world and 3.7 billion people lived on earth at this time, so it was close to 1/3 of all of the population on earth that wiewed the show, it was the first time a single artist was shown LIVE around the globe. Video of Mohammad Ali speech after Elvis died: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hrVoftSQmLG4qX0.html I have to say that I loved being at Graceland and seeing his home, first we were at the house in Tupelo where he lived in his early years, he was born there ! You don't have a guide taking you on a tour, you can go all over yourself, but stay outside of the ropes and do not attempt to go upstairs, the outside is huge, so is the house, but you don't realise that from the front of the house. I don't regret for a second that I was there, or that I stood at his grave site and said out loud that this is for the humanitarian Elvis/the person/the man and then I gave him a military salute, the others there just looked at me and asked if I didn't like his music. So I told them that he was clearly one of the best singers and artists ever, but I loved his big heart more, he helped so many people without getting credit for it, he didn't want the credit of helping others, he did it out of love and respect and to me that is what true charity is all about. This PLACE (GRACELAND) should be a protected part of music history and also American history forever, I think that people will keep coming for years and years and years to come ! Elvis did lots of things for America to, he helped to avoid getting Polio (he took the vaccin in a tv show that made the intrest for taking the vaccin go from 0,6 % to 80 % in 6 months), he also helped in the figth to defeat Cancer by helping to build up St Judes children cancer treatment clinic, he also helped to build the Memorial over Pearl Harbour and many other things!

One of my favourite Elivs songs is "Baby What You Want Me To Do" from the 68 Comeback Special. The rhythm is unique and he's pushing and moaning in the song. Pure rock 'n' roll! Elvis was in great shape, longer sideburns, black leather suit - just perfect!

The song was first recorded by Elvis Presley in 1955 on his then unissued Sun label recordings. The track was released on Presley’s March 1956 RCA debut album Elvis Presley. this was a jam session with his old band from the 1950's for his TV Special in 1968. It was only one segment of the TV show which was about 2 hours long. Elvis had spent almost decade making movies after he got out of the army and had not performed live in a long time. The TV show led to him returning to the stage in Las Vegas and on short tours, and having some hit records n the top 10.

You haven't popped up in my feed in a while but that was wonderful. I had never seen that myself until like maybe 5 years ago and I'm nearly 60. But as a musician and somebody who loves rockabilly and really all kinds of music, I really dig a lot of his early stuff where there are only audio recordings and no video, but he put out so many of them that were hits and it's just amazing. But now we are so lucky to have a lot of video from him super early and then of course the movies but really a bit later in life when he started really performing a lot live again and just some stellar masterful performances of course. Check out, Hard-headed Woman, and, A Big Hunk of Love, as great examples of what I am talking about and I know you would totally rock hard to them if you haven't heard them and of course even if you have! Please don't confuse the title of that second song with a much later one that he did in the early seventies called, A Burning Hunk of Love.

It was a turbulent time in history for his emotions to be involved when Elvis sang "If I Can Dream" arguably his greatest performance.

Too be sure you have seen the 68 comeback special when he performed live after not performing for 8 years. He was doing movies. There will never be another. Loved him since 1956 on the Sullivan show. No entertainer ever was more beautiful than this man. Have you reacted to "If I Can Dream", "Just Pretend" Vegas 1970. Also in Vegas "Polk Salad Annie". You know that he recorded over 700 songs. Great reaction, thanks.

I think Devil in Disguise, while mine is Burning Love live Aloha from Hawaii, every song from that concert is Elvis as good as he gets. I did see Elvis in concert when i was in high school in Chicago, May 2nd 1977, magical. And it is so nice seeing the younger generation like you to Respect the man and his music thank you
