@toychristopher if u played the original, you know that the controller usage in OG was to AVOID killing her but you couldn't pull away the more you tried. So, they used that here but with the R2 L2 buttons

Wasn’t a fake out she actually got saved in one universe but then it cuts back to the original because producers weren’t going to take away the emotion from that scene. It’s like ok we are saving her this time but let’s throw in the version where she dies also so the OG fans won’t go into a fit. Also make it confusing so the OG fans don’t catch on that she actually lives this time.

@@briansilva4165 She didn't live. Cloud sees a version where see lives, but Sephiroth literally says "you'll never see the truth with those clouded eyes". Cloud also sees the rift in the sky, which the game has taught us denotes an alternate world that could've happened and is coming to an end. The rest of the party, who know Aerith died, don't see that rift. It's literally just another case of Cloud's mind rewriting events while seeing into an alternate world.

It kept on jumping 2 diffrent timelimes. The original where she died and the rebirth where she's didn't.

@@Blurred_GamingShe didn't survive in an alternate universe. You're looking at it through "clouded eyes." Aerith being "saved" was Clouds mind doing back flips again. I'll place good money on that.

This is an incomplete theory because I don't know the endgame, but from how I interpret this, Aerith is taking a page from Sephiroths book to dull his influence on Clouds mind. She's inserting herself in his head to make him believe he saved to her to alleviate the guilt that plagued him in the original. When you see him with everyone else afterwards, he's not even acknowledging or questioning why they're sad. His mind just can't accept she's dead. Sephiroth didn't do this because she helped fight him off at the edge of creation. His influence on Cloud is greatly diminished earlier than in the original, and I believe it's what she wanted. For what in the end, I'm not sure because hes going to find out the truth eventually, but for now, it serves her purpose.

If you notice there is a green lifestream glow around aerith when she talks to cloud. It's a lifestream ghost. Like obi wan kenobi

Damn, Sephiroth killing Aerith messed Cloud's psyche up way more than in the OG. In his mind, he actually tried to stop Sephiroth. In reality, he stood there frozen and let it happen. Seeing her around and talking to him is his way of "ignoring" her death. The glitching while he's holding her shows the difference between reality and his imagination.

So can she actually. That’s why he even say later « I underestmated you ». It actually confirms that cloud is a « puppet ». He is in a middle of the battle of Aerith and Sephiroth.

@@julien8315 Yep! That's why the Whispers kept haunting her in Remake. Both she and Sephiroth are a conflicting threat to the course of the Planet's destiny. Recall all those times Aerith played coy and acted like she knew more than she lead-on. Marlene even picked-up on it, for crying out loud.

@@RCDescheneshe was ultimately punished for defying Destiny in Remake. She lost all of her memories in Rebirth because of that. And the tragic thing about this is that she may have been seeking to find a way to survive following Remake, but undestood that no matter what, her « Destiny » is to die for the World to be saved.

I actually played and beat the game before looking up reactions to Aerith's death in the game. personally I see it as a way the game tells the players that even if Cloud and friends were to choose their own destiny some things can't be prevented such as Sephiroth killing Aerith.

@@masterlinx767Tough. I didn't want to know anything about Kingdom Hearts and still dont, despite never having owned a Playstation. People just accepted that they couldn't play everything back then. Now it's all about convenience and it has diluted the experience with people. It's more about the party then the personal experience. Everyone wants to be seen and their reactions to be seen. It isn't all that genuine anymore.

This. I think what Tifa and the rest were seeing is reality, and Cloud is in full on breakdown mode, Aerith was talking to Cloud from the lifestream telling him it was all going to be okay to try and help him hold it together for a bit longer to reach the parties destination.

I have to say that Aerith's death was more impactful in the original game. In Rebirth it was a bit confusing imo.

Yeah they seem hell bent on ruining everything that made the original a masterpiece. I mean talk about destroying a masterpiece. Anyway yeah the trilogy is dead now. They failed the most important story beats.

i experienced the original. i’ve beaten rebirth. it was way more impactful for me in rebirth because of the knowledge of the lore i already had and with the added notion that the biggest question that hung over the heads of players was ‘will you be able to save her this time?’ couldn’t before, still can’t now.

I don't think this scene has the raw emotion of the original since it's also pretty confusing but after rewatching it a couple of times I really enjoy it. Cloud's "I got this" gets me every time.

My initial reaction was like did we or did we not save her but then realized after the last fight against Sephiroth with aerith, that she was truly gone and Cloud is seeing her only because he can't come to terms with the loss....all of that and Sephis manipulation, has him lost in a crazy whirlwind of emotion...Maximilian Dood articulates this very well. He did a stream with Easy Allies and he has some interesting view on this

I agree. I love the intrigue and the mystery of not fully knowing what's going on, but not having certainty about Aerith's death and the possibility that Cloud could save her in at least one world/timeline took away from the sorrow of the moment. I cried my eyes out, during the OG scene. In Rebirth's, I think I just shouted, "You bastard!!!"

ESRB ratings arent as easy to get away with than 20 years ago. If you want that impalement youd need a mature rating. Even Ff16 was mature rated but even that was still very censored
