As someone who has climbed a few mountains myself one thing I’ve have learned is when you are that high up on icy slopes don’t have poles out have your ice axe out so if you fall you can stop yourself. Doing that has saved me from getting seriously injured.

He wasn't remotely prepared and ignored multiple warnings to turn back from other, better equipped, hikers. He literally caused his own death. I liken this to people that hike in bear/cougar country that don't wear anything to make noise as they walk. It's just an accident waiting to happen. Stupidity used to kill a lot more before we started coddling it.
@gnarthdarkanen7464
@gnarthdarkanen7464 7 ай бұрын
From what little I can glean, he was only marginally better prepared than regular "street fashion" and a jacket and backpack... No cleats nor crampons. No axe (pick, ice, or otherwise), No extra thermal layers in the pack, No rope, Nothing... I doubt there was any even basic training or research into what he should've had.. AND as atheisthumanist as pointed out, several other people better equipped than he was tried to warn him along the way. It's WELL worth a little added expense if you want to try something "extreme" as a hobby to go to courses or find like-minded groups (that I can promise you DO exist) to investigate what's required and how to go about it BEFORE you just dive right into the figurative "deep end". ;o)

@@gnarthdarkanen7464 i watched a video about this dude a couple months back, he was a loner and severely depressed, he had a few followers on his stream. and decided to climb mount fuji. he took a few months to "prepare" for it but as you said basically just had hiking gear and climbed in winter or fall. not only that he was already doomed before he fell. He didnt start climbing the mountain until like midday and took him like 5 hours to get to where he was, he only had like 2 hours of sunlight left so was more than likely going to die from exposure or trip and fall in the dark.
@gnarthdarkanen7464
@gnarthdarkanen7464 7 ай бұрын
@@nuknuk128 Well, in defense of the choice, I think it CAN be difficult for a novice to really grasp what preparation is needed, and without a context of experience, it's hard for experienced climbers and hikers to really gauge what you know OR for you to ask "good questions" to get what you really need to know. Fuji is a respectable mountain to climb, but it's not exactly a ropes and gear, alpine conquest. Honestly, with adequate clothing packed (especially wool) and flashlights withstanding, he SHOULD have been fully capable of the trip, just not without the solid boots, either hobnail, cleated, or with crampons to handle ice at the upper elevations... and considering the daylight/dark aspect an alternative light source was a MUST... With breaks, so long as you've got batteries to go and take along enough water and a few snacks, almost anybody SHOULD be able to make the summit and get back in one piece... barring a truly freakish accident. BUT if you don't know much about "serious hiking", then you don't know to talk about cleats versus crampons, benefits for cost and time... You won't know how to figure rations for the trip, nor what exactly constitutes adequate layers to pack rather than over-doing or under-estimating your situation... Lots of folks have hiked several days in worse weather, and similarly a lot of folks have made a critical error in the first day and not even lasted for the strain he was under... In any case... What REALLY sucks is not just the tragedy of his fall... It's that his misfortune makes hiking seem more hazardous or imminently deadly than it really is or needs to be. There are rules to it, like any outdoor/survival or bushcraft related skill and hobby(ies)... BUT with a cardinal importance to knowing your own limits physically, it doesn't have to be more than a calculated risk of pretty authentic discomfort and only moderate risk of injury and more humiliation than anything, which heals over time and laughter as you CAN distance yourself from the incident in questions... ...rather like every time I've bought enough pizza and beer to feed a small army because I can't trust my mother to WAIT for my check-in phone call (or even the prescribed TIME for it) before sending the g** d*** marines after me... BUT (of course) I digress... haha ;o)

I watched the video also, and can speak from experience. It is very difficult to tell if someone is drowning. The splashing just sounds like regular swimming (and is often quieter, because the person doesn’t know how to move water) and because the person can’t breathe, they can’t yell or speak loudly or clearly. I once swam about 5 feet away from a drowning girl in a lake and did not even see her. In Ms. Wendy’s case, based on the sounds she made, I don’t think anyone would have heard her and thought she was drowning.

In situations like that, the right thing to do would always be to try and pull them out, call emergency services and do CPR until they arrive. Even if they are then pronounced dead afterwards, there would've at least been an attempt. A lot of people would be dead today if they had just drowned and the people around were like "welp, guess they're dead." instead of pulling them out and doing CPR. Unless you actively see the drowning happen, you cannot just assume that they've already died and there's no use in pulling them out.

I understand for a lot of people, deep bodies of water is something many won't really encounter unless they travel or intentionally seek it out, but it always breaks my heart when someone drowns because they haven't learned how to swim. Even the most basic "doggy paddle" can prevent so much panic which easily leads to drowning, and it's even worse since trying to save someone panicking in the water is usually also very dangerous for the rescuer unless they know what they're doing.

Having hiked and climbed (as in free-style AND with the ropes and "Alpine Style") myself, I've been around a fair few accidents and there are a couple things you should know... FIRST, it's really REALLY unpredictable whether a fall is gnarly enough to kill or not. I've seen someone slip and fall less than 10 feet (3-ish m) and break his neck... dead on the spot and no hope... Obviously we went through ALL the motions, including CPR until the helo' arrived (about an hour in shifts) and a medic specifically took over from us... BUT it was over before we began... AND I've taken a spill off the slope for several hundred feet... AND other than packing my clothes full of slush and ice, and spending most of a day retrieving only MOST of my stuff, I was fine... I was plenty pissed off (mostly at myself) for losing stuff and wasting a day, BUT we even resumed the climb the next day and got to the summit. SO if anybody found a Gerber Gator pocket knife on Mt. McKinley, I hope y'all got good service like I did for many years and enjoyed the damn thing... among some other sh*t I regret losing up there... haha The point is you just never know... AND second... drawing from the first, there's a LOT of different ways a fall can kill you, even on a well known slope. Chances are, if they couldn't even determine the time of death with a great deal of precision and certainty, it's likely that the autopsy could only really catalog all the injuries as a list, and not much for what order they were caused. SO if he had a broken neck, multitudes of lacerations and abrasions, almost no blood left, and a severe concussion... fractured skull... etc... It's a toss as to which actually outright killed him, and even worse trying to guess if and how much he actually felt for how long. At some level, even the ages old wisdom "Dead people do NOT bleed" is no real help. You CAN damage the body badly enough that blood will continue to trickle out by gravity and capillary action until it congeals, which can be more than an hour depending on circumstances and health and activity prior to accident. For most of us "left behind to mourn", it's just better to ASSUME his chances pretty fair to be battered unconscious relatively quickly in the fall and with any luck, he just never woke back up from it... so however long, he never felt much more after the first bounce or two... Even if it's not 100% true, we don't do ourselves (or him) any favors dwelling on how horrible an experience it could be tumbling down a giant cheese-grater to whimper and struggle at the bottom until blood loss and shock took him. ;o)

The donor PROBABLY actually thought she'd get herself unreasonably sick and drunk and end up puking everywhere and stumbling around and be worth a tease, instead of ending up dead... Years and YEARS ago, Jack-Ass did a Christmas special, and involved Wee-man, and I can remember if Bam was dressed as Santa or someone else visited the set, and some blonde girl dressed as Santa's elf (cute, too) all got together to have a Spiked Egg-nog drinking contest... It was HILARIOUS! I don't know how potent the spiking was, but there was puke EVERYWHERE... BUT the difference was that Jack-Ass was funded by MTV, and funded pretty well, so they had a crew including ambulance and medics ON STATION at the Set to help take care and MONITOR everyone while they participated in a REALLY stupid contest. As it was, Wee-man puked in Santa's hat and tried to get it back on Santa's head, and the blonde girl was stumbling and falling down in her own puke... Santa blew chunks across the table and started chasing Wee-man... Like I said, it was hilarious, if disgusting... BUT they had supervision for that sort of thing, and it was Egg-nog served in SHOTS... so an ounce at a time... Alcohol is NO joke. It's easier than anyone likes to admit to get yourself into serious trouble with it, from the dehydration of the nausea, to the hang-over, to full on traumatic brain damage if you go just too far. Passing out isn't the same as sleeping, and someone NEEDS to be sober and capable even after the drunks are out cold... to keep checking on them, and to get them into "recovery position" and maybe keep them there so they don't aspirate the puke while unconscious... JUST in case YOU have to deal with a falling down drunk, you CAN put a sport ball (basketball, soccer or volleyball) into a backpack, and then strap the drunk into that backpack so they can NOT physically get sprawled out on their back. Then you can just keep checking up every half hour or so for reasonable pulse and breath... If you're not sure of something being "safe" or "reasonable" for a healthy human, go ahead and call EMS (911 or equivalent) and get help. It might suck the life out of the party to break it up so EMS can rescue a very too drunk friend, but it beats the hell out of waking up to know you let someone die in their own vomit or worse... AND just keep the quantities REASONABLE when and where liquor is concerned. It's not as easy to get poisoned on beer or wine, just by shear volume. It IS still possible, of course. BUT for drinking games and contests, DO be mindful of how alcohol and metabolism works... NOBODY should ever just sit down and drink a whole quart (or liter) or more of alcohol... EVER. ;o)

dude you are dumb, she spun a wheel to randomly find out what the response to the donation would be. The guy who donated had no idea she would spin & land on the 'drink me' part of the wheel. You try to tell us to be responsible when drinking alcohol, but you are clearly a jackass fanboy, no respect is to be given. I don't think it's fair to directly blame the donor the cause of her death. Yeah, they did encourage her with that amount of money, but at the end of the day, it was her stream, and she can chose to not drink the concoction. And like what gnarthdarkanen said, the donor probably didn't intent for her to die, they likely wanted to see something amusing.

in case you ever get into a situation like helen wendy; a good tip I recommend is to let go of your air. If you know about buoyancy, you will know that when holding your breath underwater, the amount of air you hold keeps you afloat in the water. It's how life vests and floaties keep you up as well. by letting go of that air, you sink. in a case like this, I do not know how deep the pool was, but I would say around 5/12 feet in the deep end maybe. Letting go of that air makes you sink, and if you sink enough, you will go to the bottom of the floor. You can plant your feet on the ground and propel yourself upward to the top. you can keep doing this, and little by little, get yourself to the edge of the pool and hold on. In case you cannot do that, try getting yourself into a starfish position. Lay on the water flat, back facing the water, head up. Spread your arms and legs across the water. It takes some commitment to do this, but if done correctly, you will float on the top of the water. There you can call for help without as much worry as drowning.

In regards to all of the tragedies that's in this video especially the ones where they were alone: remember, doing things so dangerous all on your own will most likely end up deadly. I suggest having at least someone who is a professional with you at all costs. Just like what happened to Helen Wendy, take a pool partner with you no matter what. It's always a good idea to keep friends with you nearby in case of an accident.

So how exactly did Helena drown? She seemed completely fine swimming at one moment and in the next moment seemed to forget how to swim? I send my condolences to her, but it seems.... idk kind of suspicious I guess. Was it exhaustion and didn't have the energy anymore or did she really not know how to swim? Answers would be nice

She likely experienced a cramp in her legs, which makes it difficult to stay floating, as it's nearly impossible to stay afloat with your arms exclusively. She was also panicking, which made it even more difficult for her to use her arms to help her float. Such a horrible death, I send all my condolences for all the families and friends of those who've been mentioned in this video. May they all rest in peace.
@gnarthdarkanen7464

It's alarming how many people can ONLY swim as long as they have the bottom of the pool to stand up on, easily getting their head above water. They tend to panic as soon as water is on their face when their feet can't touch... AND that's a VERY dangerous stage of swimming skill to be. Once panic sets in, legitimate thought is out of the question, so it doesn't even matter what you know or how well you think you know it. It won't be accessible when you're scared to the point of freak-out or "lizard brain". Definitely stick to pools and friends who CAN supply lifeguard services if you're going to swim until you ARE completely comfortable with treading water and floating on your own. It's really not terribly difficult, and KEEP PRACTICING until you find it's like a second nature. While a lot of pools DO have handy markers and boundaries like ropes and such to keep you clear of the deep end, a LOT of pools do not. Lifeguards aren't always on duty, either... BUT those of us who CAN swim and tread water well AND rescue, have gained those skills because we ENJOY swimming anyway. We're usually pretty easy to horse-trade into sharing our skills and time for beer and/or pizza. This is important whether you (personally) struggle with swimming, OR you're a parent with children that might take interest in swimming. Keeping a backup adult who can help out in such emergencies is worth the investment, at least, until the children (or yourself) have the necessary skills and comfort in the water... ;o)

I suspect the last person died of DVT(Deep Vein Thrombosis) because he was sitting for a long period it could have formed a blood clot that shot up into his heart when he stood up (Pulmonary Embolism) as a gamer myself I knew about this condition and when he was introduced I hoped he too knew about this and was standing up from time to time in the run.

That last one was probably caused by Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT). DVT is a condition where the blood vessels in the legs are compressed while sitting and blood eventually builds up, causing a clot. When the person stands up, the clot is released and lodges itself in the heart, blocking blood flow.

The worst part about dying is how suddenly it can happen. I's so horrifying to think about the fact that at any given time, normal shit you do throughout the day could be your very last time doing that thing. You can put on your shoes one morning not knowing that you will never return to your home. There are people alive right now that are excited for something that is going to happen a month from now, a week from now, a day from now, and little do they know, they'll never see it.
